5 Places to Visit in Miami #travel

places to visit

At the end of 2015, we had a chance to stay in Miami briefly before our cruise left the Port of Miami. We had only ever previously passed through and I know one day is not nearly enough, nor is two days to experience Miami, but we vowed to return and see some of the sights some time soon. I didn’t get any pictures of Little Havana which I regret. But we were in a van driving past it and the shots wouldn’t have turned out well out the window as we drove by. So perhaps another time. That gives me reason to return anyways.

These 5 places to visit in Miami are not to be missed. Of course, Miami is known for its night life and electric atmosphere, but where can you go to get the most out of it? The following locations are the places to visit when traveling to Miami.

Places to Visit to Get the Full Miami Vibe

There’s no shortage of locations to visit in Miami, and all of them are gorgeous. However, when  you visit a place like Miami, you hope to be able to say more than, “Miami was great.” You want to bring back stories of iconic places and the fun you had there. You can do that if you visit these places noted here in this post. For the record I often write about Florida so you can read anything you want to know about Daytona Beach here in this series of posts. If you are considering a cruise you might want to read this post about first time cruising.

South Beach

There’s more to South Beach than sun, sand, and beautiful people, although it has all of that in abundance. Known as the American Riviera and an Art Deco Playground, South Beach has an astoundingly eclectic mix of top notch boutiques, galleries, and stores. It also has arguably the most hopping nightlife in all of Miami and some of the best dining in all of Florida.

Little Havana

Being located on the southern tip of Florida, it’s no surprise that Miami features a Cuban cultural hotspot, Little Havana. Little Havana is one of the best places to visit in Miami if you want the real Latin experience. Enjoy a cup of hot Cuban coffee while you drink in the music, storefronts, art galleries, and more that Little Havana has to offer.

Wynwood

If you think Miami is all bathing suits and partying, think again. If you love the arts, then Wynwood is a must on your itinerary of places to visit in Miami. The pulse of Miami’s arts community, the Wynwood Arts District, boasts over 70 galleries, museums, and collections. It’s currently enjoying the most renown it’s ever had among non-residents, drawing in thousands during Art Basel. They come for Wynwood’s pop up parties and galleries, and collaborations between musicians, artists, graphic designers, and other creatives.

Key Biscayne

If you need a break from the hustle and bustle of Miami, take a short jaunt by Rickenbacker Causeway to Key Biscayne. You can swim or kayak at Bill Baggs Cape, tour the historic Cape Florida Lighthouse, or just stroll down palm tree lined streets and take in the breezy island vibe. While you’re there, enjoy some delicious dining and the Miami Seaquarium.

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is one of the most important places to travel to in Miami. That’s because this museum is one of Miami’s greatest treasures. Built in 1916 by industrialist, James Deering, Vizcaya features 34 rooms all centered around a courtyard. This 28 acre estate and Italian Renaissance-style villa boasts gorgeous furnishings and arts from the 15th to 19th centuries and a garden that is absolutely stunning.

5 Places to Visit in Miami to Get the Full Experience

Unless you’re in your mid to late 20s, you’re probably more interested in places to visit in Miami than you are in how many different cocktails you can have in how many different bars.  The 5 places to visit above are some of the best in the city and surrounding area, and they give you a well rounded Miami experience. If you explore these destinations, you’ll have no shortage of stories to tell about your Miami vacation.
