I am curious however, to know why my family doctor told my mother to drink a glass of wine or a beer once a month to build up the yeast in her breast milk when she was pregnant with my little sister only 13 years ago? Why would a doctor suggest to do that if it can be so harmful?

It’s also interesting to point out that Mercury in fish may or may not lead to birth defects but we’re STILL encouraged to have 2-4 ouce servings a week while pregnant. Pesticides on fruits and vegetables can make us ill, but we are stil encouraged to eat at least 5 servings of each A DAY while pregnant.

Maybe it’s the social stigma attached alone with either drinking or not drinking during pregnancy?
