Captivated at the Blue Mountain Holiday Light Show

Update – Blumination Dream Trail won the Ontario Tourism Event of the Year on October 31st, 2019.

Give me all your jewels and I’ll wear them as rings on my fingers like the winter sky wears its stars.

Blue Mountain Resort Collingwood rises up as you greet that final stretch of road driving towards the Niagara Escarpment and this winter sports playground. In summer it is lush with greens and blues that draw you outdoors to hike, climb or simply kick back in the village with a glass of cider or craft beer.

But winter is still the best reason to visit Blue, especially during the holiday season. This year, Blumination holiday light show is one more dazzling diamond in her crown.

Imagine Elsa from Frozen walking through the glass castle trailing jewel toned shadows behind her as her dress flares and swishes across snowy paths and icy stairs. Remember that palette. The same rich sapphires, purples, golds and greens bring a wintery Blumination holiday light show to life at Blue Mountain Village this season.

And just like the movie Blumination Blue Mountain is frozen, enchanting and magical.

A Kaleidoscope

The Blumination Dream Trail is an interactive holiday light show using thousands of festive lights to create a kaleidoscope of colour in the village. Only on until January 6th, you need to catch this one now. We got a sneak peak of Blumination Dream Trail on a media day last weekend, so I could share with my readers.

So What Exactly is Blumination Dream Trail?

Blumination Dream Trail is a one-kilometre magical winter stroll through the village and around the Mill Pond. It’s interactive, family friendly, and a unique experience that transforms the Blue Mountain Resort Village into a winter wonderland.

We’ve been here many times before and love to visit Blue Mountain especially when skiing is involved. Even on a frigid February day Blue Mountain is spectacular. As long as the snow falls Blue Mountain is fully dressed and ready to dance. But, fully lit on the last night of November for the Blumination Dream Trail it’s the Belle of the Ball.

Take a post-dinner walk along the trail and pause to capture a selfie or two. There are ten stops in total, and towards the end, the trail winds up at Light So Bright, which is basically a giant digital Lite Brite you can play with, creating your own pattern.

You can’t help but feel jolly when you experience Blumination at Blue Mountain Resort in Collingwood this holiday. It’s the ticket to get you in the Christmas mood.

Walk with Me…

Start the journey at the Field of Dreams then head over to A Moment With You, the dazzling lit gazebo area, a picturesque stage for all sorts of romantic travel moments, or family photo opportunities. Down Star Street, installation number three on the Dream Trail, projected rainbow coloured lights stimulate your senses.

Star Street is fun and innocent bringing out the playful side of night time in Collingwood. You almost have to jump on the lights as they moved around the walkway. Oddly satisfying.

The Blumination Dream Trail holiday light show experience leads you around the Blue Mountain Resort Village.

Warm blues, greens, purples and golds are the perfect contrast to the frozen landscape at the base of the mountain and the ski runs. Right now at Blue Mountain Resort there are over one million lights to brighten everyone’s time in Collingwood.

A Bit of Background

This season take time to travel to Collingwood to see Blumination. The Blue Mountain Village Association teamed up with a local Collingwood company called Smash Reality Inc. and the Landmark Group to bring visitors the Blumination Dream Trail holiday light show.

One of the installations, the BLUE sign dubbed Blue Reflections is the perfect Instagram stop, and will remain all year long.

Daily light shows occur at 6 p.m., 7 p.m., 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. and there are fireworks every Saturday at 8 p.m. There are many places to stay in the village. This time we stayed at the Grand Georgian just steps away from the lifts, which is ideal for skiers and snowboarders too.

More To Love about Blue’s Holiday Season:

Saturdays there are free professional photos with Santa on the Coca-Cola stage; horse and wagon rides, maple taffy on snow and of course fireworks over Mill Pond at 8 p.m. Don’t forget the light shows mentioned above.

Sundays are horse and wagon rides, maple taffy on snow. Light shows take place in the plaza at 6 p.m., 7 p.m., 8 p.m. and 9 p.m.

I was invited to Blue Mountain Resort for a media sneak peak at Blumination Dream Trail. My opinion is all my own and also truthful.

Wow! How pretty are all those lights? Even before I read it, I was thinking, “This reminds me of Frozen!”

How much fun is this?! I love how it is outdoors too so you can get fresh air while walking around and looking at all the amazing light displays. It looks like this would be a fun family outing.
