Crayola Sidewalk Chalk Maker – review

I am a huge fan of Crayola products. Their sidewalk chalk is forever being used around here to create great murals on the back patio. Their crayons are the best, the strongest, most colourful. My daughter, diagnosed with sensory processing disorder, often overexerts pressure on things and misjudges the amount of force required to do a task, and as a result, in her hands crayons snap into tiny bits causing frustration. But over the years I have proven Crayola crayons much stronger than other brands and less likely to cause meltdowns around here. So for those reasons I adore Crayola products. They are simply made better than others. Over the last couple of years Crayola has made some remarkably innovative and very cool toys for kids. Crayola means summer around here, so this weekend – the first long weekend of the summer – we had a chance to try out this amazing washable sidewalk chalk maker. The kit comes with 6 chalk powder colours in a bottle and children add water, shake and pour into the moulds provided. It takes only 10 – 20 minutes for the chalk to dry and cute little sea creature chalks are fully formed. The kids, aged 6 and 8, both enjoyed this, but had to move quickly as the chalk dries so fast. This product is made for children aged 6 and up, but Mom and Dad enjoyed it too. The only comment from everyone after we finished was that they chalk was almost too cute to use. My thriftymommas tip for these products is to visit stores in late September and stock up on the excellent colours and varieties which are often marked down as seasonal items for half price. We always load up on chalk for the next spring. Happy drawing!

Thriftymommastips rating is $$$$ out of $$$$$ or 4 out of 5.
We bought this one at Real Canadian Superstore for $12.95. Fun, affordable, simple and quick. This kind of toy encourages my children to work collaboratively and creatively. The patterns and instructions were very simple and the chalk hardened quickly, which is a bonus for children who are eager to get to use it.

Also fun from Crayola is the washable sidewalk painting kit with rollers, paints, stencils and trays. The 3D products with glasses are enjoyable also. I look forward to whatever Crayola comes up with next.

Sounds like great fun. maybe I’ll get some for R next year. We’re loving the chalk she got from you for her birthday and she seems to be able to use it with no trouble.
