Easy Frosted Brownies and Family Game Night #BornOnTheFarm

Fun, Family and Food. What could be better than that?

Family game night is something that can really bring a family together. It’s a time when everyone is encouraged to engage in family bonding time with a little friendly, familial competition. It’s a time when laughter fills the house and mostly friendly jabs fly around the table. As kids get older we have to work a bit harder to keep them engaged. That’s why Hasbro’s Pie Face game was a hilarious addition to our games and puzzles collection. Add food to the family and the fun and you have a recipe for a great night.

Making Family Game Night a Priority

Although we like to have a night of fun and games whenever possible, it can get harder to do as the kids get older. I have two girls, both of whom are thoroughly in the teen years. Now that they’re older, they’re both busy with after school activities and homework, and dances and dating. And don’t even get me started on teenage girl drama. It’s like an episode of the most dramatic soap opera you can ever remember watching multiplied by 10 million. So. Much. Drama. I’d like to say I found a magic cure to teen drama and more infrequent game nights but I haven’t. What I have found, however, is a way to get the girls to occasionally stop their texting for a few minutes by giving family game night a twist.

Games night is really just an excuse to connect, right? Well, so too is baking with the kids. Luckily one of my girls enjoys baking and I can often engage her in a recipe. This past year she and I together have made some great recipes with Gay Lea like this Fireside Pie and these amazing lemon squares. This week I asked her what she thought we should make and Frosted Brownies topped her list so we raced out to get some cocoa, which I was out of, and pulled together a recipe we think goes perfectly with Pie Face. Of course we already had a fridge full of Gay Lea products because that’s how we roll.

Family Game Night with Pie!

No, we’re not eating pie as an addition to our game night, although that might not be a bad idea. No, we’re hitting each other in the face with pie! Yep. It’s a ton of fun, and it’s a great way to encourage the girls to enjoy some family time with each other and with us AND help them get out a little aggression in a way that’s fun and does NOT involve slamming doors and screaming at each other. True story…

Pie Face Showdown

So what’s this pie to the face business I’m talking about? Well, it’s Pie Face. Basically everyone takes a turn putting their chins on the chin rest and then you spin the spinner. If you get five for instance then you turn the handle on the apparatus holding the whipped cream five times. Players take turns doing this until the hand – with a hefty load of whipped cream in it – pops up and “pies” the player in the face. The player who doesn’t get pie-faced wins technically. But we think everyone wins. It’s a lot of fun, and you will laugh. I guarantee it. There’s something about laughter than defuses any teen angst or frustrations of the week.

Gay Lea Real Whipped Cream for Family Game Night

As long as we’re getting pied in the face for family game night, we might as well enjoy the whipped cream, too, right? That’s why our whipped cream of choice for family game night is Gay Lea Real Whipped Cream and Gay Lea Regular Real Whipped Cream. Both of these varieties come in a classic spray can for easy use. They also certified Kosher and Halal and nut-free so everyone can enjoy them.

They’re excellent for a game of Pie Face and of course for the holidays. They even come in unique flavors that suit the holiday season like Coconut & Dark Chocolate Caramel! Om nom nom. We chose coconut whipped cream for this particular games night but dark chocolate caramel is up next.

Oh, and one final thing. Gay Lea Real Whipped Cream only has 40 calories per 4 tablespoon serving, so if you’re watching your health, you can still have some delicious dessert fun! Yay!

As Gay Lea ambassadors this year we have truly had a lot of fun bringing some great new recipes to you. This month we decided to use some of our favourite Gay Lea products in this Easy Frosted Brownies Recipe. I mean we needed more than just whipped cream as a snack!! See how many Gay Lea items you can count in the recipe. Gay Lea Unsalted Butter is a staple here because it is versatile and made with only one ingredient – cream!
