There’s no more figuring out what temperature works and when and then programming it into your thermosat. This thermostat does all that leg work for you and auto-adjusts the temperature up or down based on time of day and how you’ve adjusted the temperature in the house in the past.
We installed our Nest 3.0 this month and the hardest part was actually psyching ourselves up for the installation. That’s pretty silly because it’s very simple to install and took under 30 minutes. My husband managed to connect it easily following the instructions. The Nest comes with everything you need to install it in your home and there’s also a flat plastic rectangular background piece you can place behind it to cover up the holes left from your old thermostat. I appreciate that because I have no desire right now to fill in holes or paint around the old thermostat. The Nest learning thermostat is in my office so I am the one who gets to look at it every day. Our Nest is slick looking and it’s helping to make our home more connected.

I noticed a huge difference almost immediately. Of course I won’t see energy savings yet. But for us here the most dramatic difference is that I see a huge reduction in the amount of time the furnace fan runs. My office is so very quiet now! I have been playing around with the NEST app and I like that I was able to tell the NEST immediately that I don’t want it ever getting colder than 19 degrees Celsius in here and that it really should never be warmer than 23.5 Celsius either. So those are the backups for my AWAY settings. I love also that I can check in on the house temperature from my iPhone when I am away on a travel junket or a family trip. NEST connects easily on line with your WIFI settings and then will also display the daily temperature outside in your city so that you know how your indoor temperature compares.
By installing a NEST you can save an average of 10% to 12% on your heating bill and around 15% on your cooling bill. That’s about $131 to $145 a year. I’d guess that this is a conservative estimate in our case, because I think the furnace fan has been using far too much energy and consuming too much money as well. In addition to that, this thermostat helps the environment because you’ll save power and what’s required to produce that power, as well. The same study that showed such incredible savings also showed that millions of Nest homes around the world have saved just about 4 billion kilowatt hours of energy compared to what they would have used if they’d left their thermostats on one temperature all day long.
We just installed our Nest Learning Thermostat 3.0, and I can already see a difference in our energy consumption and how we use energy. The thermostat adjusts the air just about the same time I would adjust it, which I think is cool, and it programmed itself to run a little warmer during the day that it does at night, because we cannot sleep when it’s too warm. Our new Nest Learning Thermostat 3.0 did all of that in the course of a couple of days. I’ve even been able to adjust the temperature using my smart phone. So cool.
