You know by now that I love word games. Paper, printable, digital or apps: it’s all the same to me. And Canada Day is one of my favourite summer events, kicking off the summer season for many of us. So, combine Canada Day word games into a bundle or a packet and that is a recipe to share! Canada Day History Initially known as “Dominion Day,” Canada Day became Canada Day on October 27, 1982. The change reflected a growing sense of a distinct Canadian identity, separate from its colonial ties. Canada adopted the iconic maple leaf flag in 1965. Seventeen years later, the patriation of the Canadian Constitution took place (1982.) This event transferred the country’s highest law from British to Canadian authority. A Day of Festivities Across the country, Canada Day is a vibrant public holiday featuring a wide array of celebrations. Communities large and small host parades, concerts, festivals, and family-friendly activities. Barbecues and picnics are a common tradition, bringing together friends and families to enjoy the summer weather. Over the years we have caught numerous spectacular fireworks displays, a hallmark of the national celebration. Don’t miss my Canada Day Maze printable, a popular download here. Where to Go Most major city parks have a fireworks celebration. In London, Ontario, Canada Day often coincides with Sunfest, a multicultural celebration at Victoria Park downtown. In Ottawa, Parliament Hill in the nation’s capital holds thew official ceremony annually and it is well worth the trip. The event typically features musical performances by Canadian artists, speeches from dignitaries, and a ceremonial flag-raising. No matter where you live in the country, if you want a celebration, you can probably find one, but Ottawa’s celebrations are a highlight. I mean, if there’s one thing the nation’s capital does well, it is throwing a party. Culture, History and Reconciliation Of course, I’d be negligent if I didn’t note that Canada Day celebrations need to be tempered with this reality. We live on land stolen from people that were here before we were. Here are Some Ways to Educate Yourself Re: Reconciliation and How We Can Do Better Make time to read about the true history of the country. Attend a traditional pow wow and amplify indigenous voices. Read the 94 recommendations out of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Make your own commitment to doing better and acknowledging the painful truth about Canada’s history. Read books by indigenous peoples and learn. Interesting Facts About Canada’s National Day: Remember to check out my Free Printable Pinterest Board where I have some other popular word games. How to Use these Games: To Print these word games out this month, you can right click on any of the images above and save and print off of your computer. Please do not reprint on your own site without attribution. Or download the entire lot of word games here: The answer key is included at the end of the word games package so use that if you are stuck. No matter how you celebrate, I wish you a happy Canada Day!

What is your favourite April Fool’s Joke? My kids love to play jokes and they rarely miss a chance to prank me. They could make a full day of it or maybe even a week of it. Looking for a few cute word games to round out the day or prepare for the pranks? Check out my April Fool’s Word Search below for a few minutes of fun. I mean when my kids were younger they loved these games and crosswords were also a huge hit. Nobody really has a clear understanding of how this day actually came about. There’s some speculation it might have started in France, but the origin story is pretty much a mystery. To me, it is just a fun little opportunity to share a laugh or two. Best Pranks so Far One year one of my teens at the time gathered all of the spoons and froze them in a container in the freezer. That was a shock when I opened the drawer to find the spoon for breakfast and found them all much later in the freezer. Another time my youngest tried to tell me the toilet was smoking. In fact, they’d simply dressed the toilet up to look like it had a cigarette out of it. Finally, there was a time one kid picked out a screen saver of some sort and splashed it across the television then tried to convince me they broke the TV.

You’ve heard of drawing challenges and summer lego challenges and even affirmation cards for teens. But now I am sharing a 30-day sibling challenge for kids, and while it is mostly for kids to use, this is a little gift to you too as a parent if it helps to bring peace to your home. Isn’t that part of the goal daily? Celebrating Siblings Is there any relationship that is longer throughout the lifespan than siblings? Not usually. We grow up with them, they are our first playmates and then we learn to rely on them often throughout life. There are times when although we love them, we likely want to strangle both our kids and our siblings as well. But, you can help encourage positive sibling relationships sometimes with a lot of attention and care and reminders that we are all on the same team. One Team Approach Believe me. This is my mantra here. That’s why I thought this fun and positive 30-day sibling challenge could be a great tool for many of my readers too. We are all on the same team, I say on repeat often. But the years in between spent raising kids and youth who are siblings can be challenging for parents. Nobody fights more than siblings at times because they live so closely together. There are bound to be conflicts, arguments, spats and flat out brawls at times. While I haven’t seen any studies on this as it relates to foster care and adoption, I feel like here at my house the teens struggle with some mental health challenges that make their relationship more explosive at times than some neurotypical children who have not experienced trauma. However it’s important also to nurture the relationships between siblings because of that very thing. The sibling relationship is one of the longest and most impactful over the course of lifetime. So, remember that and help kids celebrate their brothers and sisters now. Building strong bonds now will help them later in life and that is vital to a lifetime of success even beyond their 18th or 20th birthday. Take the 30-Day Sibling Challenge Now Take the challenge with your kids or suggest it to them. This is probably best for a younger youth, or even 8-12 years olds. Pre-teens might be agreeable to participating but teens are so much more prickly, so the buy in could be a challenge in itself. Print Out and Start Now! This is a super simple means of printing out the 30-day sibling challenge. Just make sure your printer is loaded with paper and ink and hit download and then print. Easy peasy. If you like this, then please check out some of my other challenges and my summer activities for kids too. A Few More Ideas for Activities

Seahorses are incredibly fascinating creatures, which is why I thought this Seahorse Lifecycle activity worksheet for kids could be a great educational post to share this week. Post may contain affiliate links as a service to readers. I receive a small commission via qualifying links. Right now, we can all use every extra educational resource we can find. So, here’s a great little seahorse worksheet for you to share with your kids. These tiny swimmers are a natural marvel of the undersea environment. Have you ever seen one in an aquarium or up close while snorkelling or scuba diving? If so, I want to hear about it. But First the Seahorse Facts There are about 40 known species of seahorses. Seahorse males carry the babies, as you will see below. In fact, they are the only species on earth where the male carries the babies. They live in coral reefs, mangroves and sheltered underwater environments that offer natural camouflage from predators. They have prehensile tails….(that means they can use their t ails like a limb, not unlike a monkey tail.) They use their tails to anchor themselves to sea grasses and coral. Also, these prehensile tails mean they can anchor themselves to things when a strong current comes by and they will not be swept away with the current. These adorable seahorse creatures often swim in pairs with tails intertwined. (isn’t that cute?) What’s the snout for? For eating, of course. Lengthy snouts allow them to suck up plankton and small crustaceans. Their snouts act as a vacuum cleaner. Print Out This Seahorse Lifecycle Worksheet Ten More Seahorse Facts: 7. They use the small fin on their back to propel themselves. It moves up to 35 times per second. 8. The lifespan of a seahorse can be 1 – 5 years. 9. Did you know that seahorses mate for life and are very monogamous? That’s a great new word for some of the kids to learn( which basically means mates for life and has one partner for life.) 10. I bet you din’t know that seahorses are fish. They live underwater, breathe through gills and have a sea bladder. 11. Baby seahorses are called seahorse fry. When my kids were small they had a great little book about animals and their babies and it talked about what every animal grouping is called. The coolest one of all was crows….did you know that a group of crows is called a murder. A murder of crows. 12. Eyesight of a seahorse is incredible. 13. There are about 54 species of seahorses worldwide. 14. A threatened species? Many people might not know that seahorses are under threat worldwide. Often seahorses and crabs are taken from the shallow waters where they swim and left to dry out then are made into souvenirs. Sometimes, they are also used in Chinese medicine. 15. Less than 1 in 1,000 born survive due to predators. …Are you into seahorses? Check out this adorable Seahorse print pillow. 16. These clever creatures change colour to match their surroundings and during courtship rituals. Don’t Miss this Eric Carle Seahorse book for preschoolers. It is a classic picture book about fatherhood and of course it has the most amazing colourful illustrations. What Do Seahorses Eat? Plankton and small crustaceans are the foods of choice. Each seahorse can also consume unto 3,000 brine shrimp a day – those are the extremely tiny shrimp that come in those tiny little Sea Monkeys kits that people used to buy. We had one here once and it was actually fun for the kids to watch those tiny critters. Looking for More Seahorse Facts? Check out The Seahorse Trust for more educational and accurate facts about seahorses. You might also consider this – > Seahorses Book from Amazon. To Download this seahorse lifecycle sheet for your use. Click on the link below. This seahorse lifecycle activity sheet is copyright protected. Please do not republish on your site or take the illustration for commercial use. That’s illegal. I love providing these educational activities for you and your kids, but can’t do so if they are stolen and republished.

Here’s a craft that you have probably never done before. Eco-printing is a fun way to make pretty cards and writing paper. The materials involved are simple and can mostly be found in and around your neighbourhood. My oldest daughter Payton did this one and came up with the idea then helped document the steps here. Fun Craft With Natural Materials This Eco-printing activity could be a great craft to do with older kids because it gets them off their screens and outside for a bit. Basically, you just need to go for a walk around the neighbourhood to gather leaves, petals and buds. The more colourful the better. Don’t forget to take a container with you or a bag for the natural specimens you bring home. Together, we have all been taking a lot of walks around our neighbourhood so we’ve witnessed the changes in the trees and plants this past two months while social distancing. Walks and hikes together are a huge part of maintaining our mental health in my family. Glad we can do that. Some Tips: We found that deep greens and purples work best for the colour transfer to the paper. Don’t forget that card stock works better than regular printer paper because it is thicker and absorbs more pigment. The final effect actually kind of makes the card look like you used water colours and it can be very pretty. Materials Needed: Random flower petals and leaves, the more colourful the better. Vinegar Water Cardstock paper Rock, small hammer or even just a heavy tube to roll over top of the plant. Tape How to Eco-Print in Ten Easy Steps Collect flowers and leaves. Soak them in equal parts vinegar and water for 10 minutes. Remove from vinegar and water solution and dry be sure to pat gently as to not remove pigment. Tape soaked plants to card stock in whatever patterns you desire. Use light taping so you don’t rip the page. You might consider making the tape less sticky by attaching to your clothing first and then gently adding to the paper. Once you have taped the plants in your desired arrangement flip over the paper to the plants are against the table or surface on which you are working. Take a hammer or rocks and gently press on the flowers from the underside of the paper Continue pressing for about 5 minutes on each plant Remove tape. The flower or leaf will come off on the tape, but don’t worry about that, because it’s supposed to happen. Wait for the pigments to dry or else they will smudge Enjoy your Eco printed paper. Write on it when it’s dry and send or turn into a card. Eco-Printing Makes Gorgeous Cards Eco-printing paper is pretty easy and fun to do. Plus, you can be as creative as you want with colours and designs. Next up: I think we will try dandelions too to see how their colours transfer to the paper.

Loving This Mandalorian Activity Pack with Word Games Have you seen the Mandalorian series yet? The concept is brilliant, the plot is highly entertaining and frankly, creator Jon Favreau is a bit of a genius. He came up with the concept because he apparently wanted to explore Yoda as a character. I mean of course!! We all love that kooky wise old sage. Yoda, the Child, is basically a fun show to watch with your kids, or even the entire family. If you have kids that are fans of Star Wars, then they will love this show. It is very wholesome by the way. Mad love for the show. Make Today the Day You Start the Series! Did you know that the Mandalorian is mostly animatronics and puppetry with a bit of computer generated imagery? That first episode where they set up the father son, parent child relationship sucked us right in hook, line and sinker. Get the Mandalorian Activity Pack Here Mandalorian Activity Pack – Word Scramble Answers Do not let the kids see this, but keep it for yourself in case they get stuck. Enjoy this Kid’s Mandalorian A to Z word game challenge. Just download via the secure link above. The file contains the three pages shown here. Happy Watching and Hope you enjoy these word games too. Thanks for reading! Are you a fan of this Disney show? If so, who is your favourite character? If you enjoyed this and love the show then don’t miss my 100 Baby Yoda gifts.

Play Away is London’s newest indoor play space for families. Imagine a huge, safe, indoor Canadian-made play structure with numerous slides. Now add a toddler area and a giant jumping pillow that’s one of only three in the country. Plus wifi and a cafe. Play Away is hours of fun for all and it’s the solution to Rainy Day, or PA Day Blues. Fun is the Name of the Game at Play Away Play Away is exciting to me because it focuses on everything that I’ve been instilling in my kids since they were little. It’s an indoor gym devoted to making fitness a fun and integral part of life by exposing kids to the joy of movement and exercise. This super clean playground has clear sight lines, healthy food options AND free WiFi. There are soft blocks, a three-storey climber and a cute race track. Play Away also runs private parties and birthday parties. They have fitness programs occasionally too. The owners opened in August of 2016 and they currently employ 7 people. It is a small family run business that fills a need in east London. “My husband and I really just wanted a place where we could sit back, drink a nice coffee and let our very active kids (5 ) and (3) run around. London is amazing for families – the libraries, playgroups, playgrounds and paddling pools are so much fun, but we saw that the east had nowhere that little kids could explore and try new things physically indoors, ” owner Katie Singer said recently. “We knew it had to be a big space and we wanted it to be on the East side of London,” said Singer. “There are a couple of other indoor play areas in London, but until now there was nothing on the East side.” Fitness Programs Play Away makes fitness fun for kids by establishing that movement is something to be enjoyed. There are also occasionally fitness classes offered. But, check the schedule first. Play Away offers Baby Bootcamp – Private fitness class (registration only) that gets mom or dad into shape while making it a fun interactive activity for babies 3 months to toddling. That begins April 21st and runs on Friday mornings. All classes and day passes are affordable! Look for these classes. Propellers – For children aged walking to 3 years, this class focuses on building a child’s confidence with their movement and making physical activity fun. Combo Dancers – A combination of dancing and gymnastics for kids aged 2 to 4. Flyers – Teaches falling, tumbling, hopping, dancing and more to kids aged 3 to 5 for a strong foundation in making fitness fun. Yoga Tots – A parent and tot yoga class for moms and dads with kids under 4. Snacks While Play Away offers healthy snack options, they also offer standbys like pizza and hot dogs. Their menu is decent and has something for everyone. The cafe serves fair trade coffee. Patrick Beans – Fair trade coffee La Noisette – Fresh-baked nom noms Hot Food – Pizza, Grilled Cheese, Hot Dogs, etc. Scoping out Play Away Indoor Park for kids in #ldnont for a blog post. #kids #babies #toddlers #fun #moms #parenting #activity #birthdays A post shared by Paula Schuck (@inkscrblr) on Mar 22, 2017 at 11:35am PDT The thing that struck my fancy first is that this facility works for both parents and kids. If your children are toddlers and need you nearby, you get right in there and climb with them too. And if your kids are 9, 10, and even 11 and you just need them to be busy for a few hours, bring your laptop or tablet and log in. There are comfortable seats, banks of chairs and a countertop style table. Get work done while keeping an eye on them. Play Away Fitness Fun Done Right Play Away is located in London, ONTARIO at 2469 Aviation Lane near the London International Airport. They are open seven days a week. PD/ PA Days and March Break days are super busy. $7.95 per child plus HST for the day. Ten packs of passes are $69.95 plus HST. Birthdays and private parties are extremely affordable, but booking fast. Play Away has a private party room as well. With classes, delicious snacks, clean equipment, WIFI, and space for parents to work too, it’s no wonder Play Away is already a hit. This is hands on fun, indoor, playground action. Socks only facility. No external food or drink allowed. Follow Play Away on Twitter and on Facebook This post is sponsored which means I have been compensated. My opinion is all my own and it is truthful.

Father’s Day is approaching fast! Just in case you weren’t already aware of that. I know. I know. It sometimes gets so busy this time of year that it’s easy to lose track of some things. That’s why I thought you might enjoy these easy free Father’s day coupons. Don’t Forget Dad This Year! Dads, good Dads, are super important. So don’t forget to show them some love and appreciation this weekend. Oh I know they are coy and often don’t ask for much, but the thought counts every year. This year, more than ever free and creative gifts are in need. So here are my free Father’s Day coupons for your kids to print and gift to Dad. Gifts for Dad Matter! I have already had several gifts and giveaways here for dads this month. There are many great gift ideas for Dads scattered throughout my recent posts. There is also a great crafty Father’s Day roundup you might want to take a peek at soon. But, this one is a free gift just for you to help with the budget. Enjoy this great little printable coupon book. Have the kids download and print these. You might have to help, so I will walk you through the steps at the end of this post. Tell me have you purchased something for the kids to give to Dad? Do they buy gifts themselves, or are they so small they don’t have money yet? What will you plan to give to Dad this year? What Does Dad Want? And more importantly what do Dads want? A man cave? Not exactly within the means of most people. A brand new Jord wood watch? Maybe. Check out my review here – > Jord Wood watch. If money is no object and your Dad, step-Dad, or your husband, is a gadget guru, then this Solo 3DR drone might appeal to him, especially if he loves taking photographs. Or maybe he could use a new cell service provider and a $200 Visa gift card to buy what he wants along with a $200 credit to use Yak Canada home phone or cell phone service. No contracts. That’s appealing to me. If you are like the majority of the world and you don’t have a lot of time or money to spend negotiating shopping malls and seeking out presents, I am here to help. I have at least one more Father’s Day giveaway happening this week. But in the mean time, here is your free printable Father’s Day coupon printable. Happy Father’s Day! What are you giving to your Father, if you have one? Or what great gift ideas for Dads have you found for the kids to give to Dad? How to Share This For this coupon printable you can either right click the image above and save the sheet and then download and print from your computer. Please note that right clicking on random blog posts is not considered okay. It is a breach of copyright. BUT I am giving you permission to do that with this printable. OR if you want a super clear version just click on this PDF link below and download and print. Happy Father’s Day! Fathers Day Coupons
