Birthdays are unique marker in our lives. And I mean generally speaking there are two camps around birthday celebrations. Love them or hate them and try to ignore. Either way, this year I am sharing a birthday printable package because I love to share and I adore word games and birthday colouring pages as many of you do too. My Hot Take I am not a massive birthday celebrator. It is often one more day of the year. For a time I worked at a spot where it was your job to bring in treats for everyone else on your birthday. So baking something the night before your birthday was an expectation. And it better be good. Typically, a lot of years I have worked on my birthday driving into the office because there are no great exceptions or built in acknowledgements of the day when you are an adult. If your workplace has a birthday PTO day then kudos for working at a place that gets it and appreciates you. Kid’s Birthdays are Events For kids, the anticipation is the best part. It is all about the party planning, the excitement of who is coming, and that feeling of being the centre of the universe for a few hours. But as we get older, I think the focus shifts a little. It becomes less about the noise and the guest list and more about those quiet moments of reflection. Maybe it is a special meal with your partner or just hearing from your kids, but it becomes a time to look back at the lessons learned over the last year and look forward to whatever is next. Comforting Rituals No matter the age, there is a certain comfort in the rituals we build around these days. Whether you are someone who needs a full weekend of festivities or you prefer a low-key dinner with good food and great company, those little traditions are what make the years feel distinct. Your birthday can be a wonderful excuse to hit the pause button, celebrate the people you love, and enjoy the simple fact that there is one more year of memories awaiting. There’s something special about first pets and well, frankly every pet has a special place in their owner’s hearts. Pets We Have Known and Loved My first pet ever would have been a tiny Pomeranian dog when I was a baby. But, to be honest I have zero memory of that pup. My only memories of her are from photos my Mom had. The first pet that I actually remember was a tiny turtle that my brother and I both had. Loved that pet. I recall that we called him Fred Flintstone and he was a small guy who lived in our aquarium in our home in Guelph. Alas, I think he only lasted about three years. After that, we had no pets for a time until we got our cats. Over the years, we had so many wonderful cats: Spooky, Mandy, Mindy and Magnum. Mindy and Magnum were still with is when we adopted both of our girls. Pet Games and Printables The pet games and printables are six pages of fun and a little bit of passive learning too. Be Brave Hopeful Sayings Colouring Page

At the start of the pandemic I looked for ways to stay positive. I think many of us did actually. There weren’t many optimistic and hopeful things to see then as events were cancelled and schools closed and sports stopped, gyms closed and well you get the idea. And, there was so much worry, in every single corner of my house. WE lost multiple trips we had planned and we were worried often. Everything was so much harder, especially when schools closed and remote learning was the new normal. My kids did not do well with that at all. MOM Life So, like a lot of Moms, I looked for hope and inspiration and anything that might actually help us get through. So we painted rocks with inspirational sayings on them and placed them in various areas of the neighbourhood. And we took hikes and we drew and did so many crafty things. Check out my Eco Printing Craft Idea here. Then we made some lovely colourful art and posted it in the windows of our home. Be Brave That made me happy. It also helped us to resolve to do our own part to add to the cheery atmosphere of our own little corner of the world. We began by adding colourful pictures and seasonal colouring pages to the windows of our home. That was as much about giving us something happy to look at as it was about watching the cheerful smiles of grandparents out walking their grandchildren and little ones stopping to stare at the window art. My True Confessions There’s a huge part of me that just wants to hibernate and wake up when this is over. But I am working hard daily to just keep going. Winter is Normally my Favourite Anyways, I love winter and I will do my best to embrace it even in this terribly hard season. The 2020 season was brutal. I have spent much energy watching all of the Hallmark movies and loving them and I have done everything possible to create a festive home because it is good for our mental health. So, I will keep on chugging along. And I will also build in more walks again and some hikes (I hope there are some spaces that are not closed to that option.) If You Need Something New When the kids were small, especially when we had gaps in time between present opening and dinner and relatives visiting, I always planned to have numerous activities lined up to keep them busy. I typically plan some outings like skating and skiing and sometimes winter tubing too. This year we will be abiding by all of the health unit regulations, so who knows if we can even skate or visit the local ski hill. At the very least this year, I am hoping there is snow. Then we can all go out to our yards and play a bit…Oh, and of course, go make a snowman, a snow woman and maybe even an entire family! Bundle up and get outside or move safely!

Fall’s arrival always makes me a bit sad. Everyone here knows that summer is my favourite season, with winter following close behind. Even this year, I believe that ski season is worth celebrating. Sometimes I find that I need to look harder to find reasons to enjoy September, October and November. But, that said, I am fully aware that the reasons are there. One of the biggest, most appealing parts of the Autumn months is simply Fall colours and watching the leaves change colour. Right now, my street is a riot of colourful maple trees. Happy New Year 2020 Colouring Doodle

Happy New Year 2020 to all of you! How did you spend your New Year’s Eve? Last night, we went skiing as a family, well mostly…my one girl went to a friend’s sleepover party and chose to stay there. It’s a New Decade – Welcome to 2020! So the rest of us, the remaining three members of my family, went skiing at Boler Mountain in town here and had a great time together. At 9:30 pm roughly every New Year’s Eve they have a family New Year’s Eve event and we have enjoyed it a few times. Last year, we ushered in the New Year with my good friend Margarita Ibbott. Do you love winter or hate winter? There are pretty much two camps on that. Some people can’t stand the cold and the relentless snow. Others, like me, can’t get enough of the snow. Bring it on. The more snow the more skiing and skating and outdoor snow sports. And that makes me happy. This season, I thought I’d share a fun welcome winter colouring page. Over the last year I shared all the seasons as colouring pages. The year before that, it was the Months of the Year colouring pages. I shared one every month for all of the year 2018.
