Happy Valentine’s Day! Such a frenzied time again here. Sometimes it feels like we race from one holiday or season to the next. In my line of business that’s life. This weekend Family Day and Valentine’s Day are both happening, so it’s extra chaotic from the work side of things. But that said, of all the holidays around I enjoy a chance to celebrate my family. It often seems like we don’t get enough time to do that. I will be celebrating with my kids again this year on Family Day! Last year we opted to toboggan for a chunk of the day and that is always so much fun. The important thing is spending time together really. Happy February! February is the month of Family Day and Valentine’s Day. To me, that makes it a month to celebrate love. I hope this year I am able to take some time on Family Day to go skiing or simply hang out with my family. I often end up working through these sorts of days but Family Day is a special one to me here in Ontario, Canada. We celebrate in several provinces now. I think family and love are great themes. Anyways last month one of my talented helpers brought you this January inspirational love sayings calendar. I liked it so much I asked her to keep making these for this blog. So, Happy February! By now you know my family and I love word searches. So for Family Day this year I decided to create a Family Day word search for everyone to enjoy. Do you celebrate Family Day? Is there a trip planned to see relatives when Family Day comes around every year in February? Or do you just relax at home and play some board games, or go watch a movie? However you choose to spend Family Day, this Family Day Word Search and all the related Word Puzzles and Free Printables here on Thrifty Mommas Tips should keep you busy and having fun together. Happy Family Day! Family Day is a special day here to remember how we became a family. For those of you who don’t know, there are many provinces now that celebrate Family Day. Ontario and Alberta celebrate on February 16th. British Colombia celebrates on February 9th. I remember when Family Day was implemented by our Ontario Liberal government. I wasn’t sure what to think at the time, but I love it now. What’s not to love about a day off in February? Beat the February blahs at the movies, or out tubing, skating or tobogganing! One February a couple of years ago we spent the day tubing at Boler Mountain. It was awesome! I’d love to do that again. Do you celebrate Family Day? If so, what do you do? Fun Family Day Word Scramble

Family Day is a unique holiday to Canadians. It started in Ontario when a Liberal premier determined we needed a break in February. So Family Day became a long weekend in February in several provinces and frankly it couldn’t come at a better time. We often go skiing for Family Day. There are some really awesome places to do that in Ontario. A few weeks ago I began planning for Family Day here and this year I have a Family Day word scramble to share as well as a batch of Family Day activities that are free for you to give to your family. Family Day Word Scramble PS Things to Do Family Day What’s Family Day without a few fun activities for the kids? I’ll tell you what it is: just any other day of course. Family Day is one of my new favourite holidays because it comes in February and frankly everyone in Ontario needs a break by February. Also it’s a great chance to celebrate family. Some of you are regular readers here and you’ve already seen a host of Family Day activities and printables that I have published here. Anyways, here’s one more – just for you. Family Day, for those who don’t know, is a holiday in Ontario and Alberta in mid February. We get the day off from school and from some jobs. I won’t be off that day because work beckons but I will be taking some time to go skating or swimming or just play games with the kids. It’s a lovely long weekend that starts with Valentine’s Day often and ends with Family Day. I’m pretty stoked about that. Just wishing that Family Day was a day I could celebrate by flying to Mexico. Wouldn’t that be worth celebrating? Family Day Printable Worksheets for Kids: Our Household

This Family Day I thought it would be fun to share several Family Day printable worksheets and activities for kids. Stay tuned for coloring sheets and word searches and all sorts of fun. I hope that you take some time to have fun with your family on Family Day. For those of you who don’t know what Family Day is, it’s a holiday in February that is designed to give families a day off work and a day off school to spend together. In Ontario, people enjoy their Family Day this year on Monday, February 16. In Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario the dates are the same (Feb. 16). In BC, their holiday is a week earlier on February 9. If your children are looking for something to do, you can download this activity sheet and let them draw a picture of their family. To do that you can right click the sheet above and save to your computer or you can follow the link here in PDF form (generally bigger and much clearer.) I love that it comes right in the middle of February – a month when we all can use a little pick me up. If you are hunting for some fun and inexpensive things to do there are so many choices this weekend. Happy Family Day, friends!! I actually enjoy this holiday a lot. It comes at a perfect time right smack dab in the middle of February, which is, let’s face it, a rough grey month sometimes. Traditional Family Tree Printable for Family Day

The ancestry topic is hot no matter what age you are. At some point in your child’s education they will start to learn about ancestry and heritage. This Traditional Family Tree Printable for kids can help them sort some of their heritage out. Family Tree PS-1 When you have little people it can be a lot of fun to help them discover their world. Part of that discovery process also involves figuring out who belongs where. Which uncle is married to which aunt? Who is that, as far as it relates to Daddy? My one daughter, even at 10, will still ask sometimes: is Uncle Ken Daddy’s brother or who is he married to? It takes practice and reminders and a lot of repetition to get the relationships all figured out. For your child, it’s all part of figuring out where they fit in your family. This Family Day, one of my talented helpers here built this Family Tree to share with my Thrifty Momma’s Tips readers. I like that this can be used any time of year at home just to help your little person figure out who goes where. The traditional Family Tree Printable is free to download, but please do not copy it. But I always do this instead: click on the link above and print it out from a PDF. It’s much clearer and a nicer image too. Of course, there are days when these types of activities can bring up interesting questions. Why doesn’t Uncle Joe have a wife? Whose tummy did you come out of? And so on.
