The sun is shining, the days are long, and let’s be honest, the quest to keep everyone entertained during the warmer months can be a full-time job. Whether you’re lounging in the backyard or packing for a weekend getaway, having a few tricks up your sleeve for those “I need a distraction” moments is key. That’s where this Summer I Spy printable comes in. Word and Picture Games I’m a huge fan of I Spy games and word searches because they are the ultimate quiet time hero. They don’t require batteries, they don’t make noise, and they actually get kids focusing on the little details. This version is themed with all the classic icons of the season. From ice cream cones to sunshine and hummingbirds (my favourites this time of year) These games are a fantastic way for younger kids to work on their counting and observation skills, but it’s honestly just as satisfying for older kids who love the challenge of clearing the whole page. A Few Fun Ways to Use These Ready to get started? You can find the download link below. Grab some crayons, find a nice spot in the shade, and enjoy a few minutes of seasonal fun! Don’t forget the paper and supplies Don’t forget to order paper – HP Printer Paper and also be sure to use a good printer. This Epson Eco Tank Printer is amazing. It saves ink like nobody’s business. Other Activities Bald Eagle Life Cycle Learning Games Booklet Horse Life Cycle Frog Life Cycle Educational Booklet Post contains affiliate links.

This Easter Word Scramble is my way of saying to you, enjoy the spring months while they are here. They certainly do not last long. After months of heavy coats, salt-stained boots, and that perpetual grey sky that seems to settle over Ontario, seeing the first hint of green can be basically a religious experience. Between the mud (so much mud!) and the birds finally making a racket again every morning waking me up, the signs of spring are hard to ignore. Listen, everyone here knows I love winter. It is my favourite but I might be in the minority around the province this year as the snow seemed relentless at times. Great for skiers and snowboarders indeed. Finally, Some Sunshine No doubt many of you are breathing a sigh of relief that we survived another winter. Now comes the transition. That weird month where you can finally leave the heavy layers at home and maybe, just maybe, step outside without a hat and mittens and enjoy the sight of a few crocuses popping through the ground. Spring always feels like a bit of a frantic dash for me. Between getting the patio furniture out and staring at my garden beds wondering where to even start, it’s easy to get caught up in the “to-do” list. But this year, I’m trying to lean into the slower, more playful side of the season. It’s about the simple things, like having the windows open while I work or planning a weekend staycation that involves more relaxing and less “power-washing the driveway.” Don’t Forget to Pin This Word Scramble for Later A Little Fun for the Easter Countdown With Easter just around the corner, things are starting to feel a bit more festive. Whether you’re planning a big family brunch, a casual egg hunt, or you’re just looking for a way to keep the kids (or yourself!) entertained while the carrots roast, I wanted to share something special. You know how much I love a good word game, online, in app form, or in print. Honestly, judging by the messages I get, you all do too! There is something so satisfying about sitting down with a coffee, or tea a quiet house, and a brain-teaser. It’s that perfect “me-time” activity that doesn’t involve a screen. Your Free Easter Word Scramble To celebrate the season of new beginnings, I’ve put together a brand-new Easter Word Scramble! It’s packed with all the seasonal classics. Think spring blooms, cute little fuzzy garden destroyers. It’s completely free to download and print. These are perfect for: No sign-ups, no catch. This is just a little spring gift from me to you. Download Your Free Printable Here Click the link below to grab your PDF. I recommend printing a few extra copies because, in my experience, once one person starts, everyone else wants to get in on the challenge! [Click Here to Download Your Free Easter Word Scramble PDF] What Are You Doing This Spring? I’d love to hear how you’re spending your spring so far. Are you already digging in the garden, or are you still firmly in “cozy indoor” mode? Let me know in the comments, and happy scrambling!

Have you ever been fishing? One of my kids LOVES to go fishing, so chances are good we will do that at some point this simmer. Whether you are a skilled angler or starting out, the parts of a fish are important to know. In school when studying science and life cycles, you might come across a fish related activity or learning unit. There’s so much to learn about animals, insects and fish and there are so many fun ways to make those lessons resonate with kids. When I was in school, I did several life cycle assignments and ecosystem assignments involving collecting tadpoles and more. One year we did a whole pond ecosystem complete with small aquarium and whatever we had scooped up out of a creek nearby our apartment in Guelph Ontario. We had so much fun doing that science project in senior elementary school. Here’s what’s included in these fishy activity sheets for kids. Cover Sheet Build Your Own Colourful Fish Page Parts with Placeholder Bubbles for the colourful circles to be glued on. Cutouts for each of the parts. Colour and cut out scales, fin, tail, mouth and eye to decorate the build a fish page. Colour the scales and glue them on to the build your own fish page. Kids can personalize their artwork as they see fit. Have some glitter glue? Use it for the scales and make your own little Rainbow Fish. Cute Fish Activity Sheets Fish biology and fish facts are pretty simple to learn. Use this printable if your kids are remote learning, or home during the summer and bored. It is super simple to print and share. All you really need is glue and scissors plus a printer and printer paper of course. How to Print Just click on the link below and you can effortlessly download this file of fish information and facts. This project is clearly intended for a younger child. I’d estimate most kids around ages 4-8 would enjoy doing this. You know your child best but any older than that and they would probably give you side eye for suggesting this activity.

Happy Father’s Day! It’s almost summer. And boy am I ready! I shopped early knowing that my husband also has a birthday in June and I don’t want to miss either one of these occasions. This cute Father’s Day Coupon Book you can also personalize is ideal this year. Bring on the sunny summery days by the pool, barbecues and camping at Ontario Parks. There’s nothing I need more than a tent, a campsite and a campfire and a whole lot of quiet right now. Bring on Father’s Day! I don’t know about you but I have found that it’s been so much harder to find and give gifts this year. For every occasion I have planned far ahead because of the pandemic, lockdowns and Covid-19. You really can’t assume anymore that stores will be open or things will be easy to buy when the occasion suddenly comes up. Also, you can’t rely on Amazon for everything. Occasionally, even they have to shut down. Looking for a book to give….highly recommend this one Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters. Planning Ahead for Father’s Day Thankfully, I have saved some gifts and put a couple of others away. But, several other members of my family have not planned ahead and they have no idea what to do for many occasions. They’ve been caught a couple of times at least. Mother’s Day for instance. I suggested flowers because garden centres are still open and for sure we have something set aside here for my husband, who loves to barbecue. Gifts for Grill Lovers If your spouse, or partner is like mine then you may want to check out my 103 Best BBQ Gifts for the Grillmaster post. Don’t Miss this Father’s Day Golf Ball Rice Krispie treats recipe. Hallmark always has some cute ideas too. An Amazon gift card is still something you could get if Dad is hard to buy for. Not super personal, but honestly sometimes it’s just best for Dad to be able to pick his own gift, right? Cute DIY Free Father’s Day Coupon Book Get this cute Father’s Day coupon book now. This adorable printable is four pages long with a page of coupons that Mom can give to Dad and a page for kids to give to Dad too. Then there’s a fun page to use that is customizable!

What do you know about the horse life cycle? What do your kids know about horses? This horse life cycle learning kit is four pages and it might help reinforce a love of literacy while nurturing compassion for living things in general. My daughter rides horses and she has a passion for them. She’s been riding at Sari Therapy Riding since she was about 5 or 6 and she’s 16 now. She looks forward to doing this weekly and knows a lot more about horses than I ever have in my entire life. She has done summer camps that involve horseback riding and therapeutic riding lessons as well as dressage. In the summer during camp they often do a lot of horse themed educational activities. They learn the parts of horses and how to care for horses and what to look for that might indicate a problem or health issue. I know my daughter is not alone in her love of horses. It is a common passion for a lot of teens and tweens. These days, every weekend on Sundays she gets her gear on and we drive her out near Arva, just outside London where she grooms and cares for her horse and then rides for half an hour or more. Her sessions are a highlight of the week. Horses simply seem to get humans and have a pretty cool relationship with them. One thing I am pretty sure she doesn’t know much about it the horse life cycle though. I mean when does that ever come up. Anyways, if your kids are into horses and enjoy riding or hope to be able to ride a horse one day then these horse life cycle games are a great way to encourage that interest. When my girls were younger they both often went through these phases where they were obsessed and wanted to know everything possible about a specific animal. They went though dinosaurs, or sharks and my other one went through cosplay and anime. This booklet is easy to download just click on the link below and a trusted PDF book will pop up. What’s in the Horse Life Cycle Kit? Here’s what’s included in this cute and free learning tool for school aged kids. The first page is a Glue the Pieces to the Page Puzzle. Trace the letters spelling activity is on Page 2. Page 3 is a sweet little maze – help the horse find his way through the maze to the mare. Page 4 is a Self Correcting Puzzle. Use the scissors to cut this out and help reinforce hand eye coordination and fine motor skills too. Want to Keep the Learning Going? I suggest you check out my Solar System Learning Unit. Also, I have a turkey life cycle activity, in addition to the horse life cycle games here. a Seahorse Life Cycle activity and finally a Bee Life Cycle activity.

Well, I know it’s not exactly right around the corner or anything but here’s to St. Patrick’s Day. This year, we are celebrating with a St. Patrick’s Day Scavenger Hunt and maybe some green foods or drinks. It was St. Patrick’s Day roughly in 2020 when Coronavirus kicked it up a great deal and sent us all for a loop here. Our spring break vacation was cancelled entirely when the border between Canada and the US was closed to travel. That was a very hard period of time and the start of a long haul through 2020. But, here we are closer to the end of this pandemic. Still Struggling? Check out my Pandemic Content over on CBC Parents. Hope it helps. We didn’t feel much like celebrating then that’s for sure. Anyways, this year I am hoping for a much better St. Patrick’s Day and a sweeter month of March for you. Maybe this St. Patrick’s Day scavenger hunt will add to the fun. Print it out and share with your family or friends. Don’t Miss These St. Patrick’s Day Activities: St. Patrick’s Day Colouring Page March 17 Word Search for St. Patrick’s Day!

There aren’t too many people who haven’t heard of new Vice President Kamala Harris by now. She is the first ever female Vice President of the US and an inspiration for young girls everywhere. So, for Black History Month I thought it fitting to share this amazing Kamala Harris Booklet for Kids. With the inauguration fresh in our minds still and this historic accomplishment, Vice President Kamala Harris is top of mind with great reason. Vice President Kamala Harris is now the highest ranking female US official in history and also the first African American and Asian American vice president. That is worth celebrating especially after the past four years of divisive politics. Right now, during Black History Month, learning a bit more about Kamala Harris, a lawyer by profession, former District Attorney and also Attorney General of California, makes sense and is extremely timely. Here’s What To Expect: The trivia page gets the learning started with a few facts about the courageous and talented Senator who did not back down from a battle. She gained a national profile for her pointed questioning of Trump officials during Senate hearings, including Trump’s second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, accused of sexual assault. Educational Kamala Harris Booklet Inside the Booklet: This 6 page Kamala Harris Booklet includes: A Cover, Kamala Harris Trivia Page, Acrostic Poem and Writing Prompts, Word Search and Colouring Page. There’s an acrostic poem here using her last name and a gorgeous colouring page that one of my helpers made. Here’s how to get this learning tool Click on the download button and the Kamala Harris Booklet appears easily. Enjoy! Don’t Miss the Black History Month Writing Prompts I shared earlier this month. And, if you use it please come back and tell me. I love knowing that you use these tools.

Here’s to your little writers and content creators. Let’s celebrate and nurture the creative souls with this Magician Writing Prompt Printable Activity. Easy Indoor Activities for Creative Kids First, if your kids are hunting for activities that are quiet and indoors this winter, then here’s a thought. Why not offer up some writing prompts to get them creating content? Writing is a great way to express imagination while exploring literacy through spelling and grammar. And second of all, this Magician Writing Prompt is simple and fun. Who doesn’t adore magic and magicians? Writers Will Write One millliiiiooooooonnn years ago, in grade school, I discovered a love of writing. Obviously, I still write and am happy to call that my career and vocation, but I first realized a love of the written word as a child. I didn’t need a writing prompt to be inspired and really all I needed was a pencil and a blank page. But, I know that my teachers offered all sorts of worksheets to my class. This Magician Writing Prompt Post contains affiliate links as a service to readers. I receive a small commission via qualifying purchases. I was that kid who asked the teacher for homework, or worksheets to take home on the weekend and over the holidays. Frankly, I lived in my head and that trickled out onto paper all the years of my life. Oh sure, not every child is like that, but some kids are searching for creative outlets and ways to express themselves. By contrast, others will need a nudge in the right direction. My youngest daughter often enjoys writing stories. She has written some posts here like this Harry Potter is the Best Movie Series for a pandemic post and this Travel with Teens post. Frankly, it gives me joy to see that at least one of my kids likes writing in her spare time. She has found a voice through repetitive practice and by scribbling in journals for years on end now. For me, I think my love for writing started in grade 2 and has only grown over the years. Reading all of the amazing books I could at that age and stage made me want to try writing. In grade two I actually wrote a small book with a classmate named Matt and I dubbed myself an author. The other child was sort of mortified as I recall. Some of my Favourite Childhood Books Nostalgia alert: my favourite books in grade 2/3 were The Anne of Green Gables Series and also the Laura Ingalls Wilder Little House on the Prairie series. However, I didn’t mind getting special single volumes either, such as: any Jean Little book or later on the Are You There God, Judy Blume books. For holidays like birthdays and Christmas, I was overjoyed if I got a diary, journal, fancy writing pen, or a boxed set of books. Nancy Drew came in handy around grade 3/4.

What do mountains, peninsulas, lakes and wetlands have in common? Take a moment to think about it. That’s right, they are all landforms. Right now, as the summer trails off and closes in on fall I thought it might be a good time to share these free landforms flash cards. Remember Being a Small Bean in a Huge World? Last week, while visiting my brother and his family at a cottage in Sauble Beach I listened to his adorable kids, my niece and nephew refer to Lake Huron as a river, or the ocean. That simple childhood slip reminded me of being small and that period of time during your life where you think all the water is the same. It’s both adorable and absurd in a trillion different ways that remind you of how big the world seems when you are so small. Sometimes children are so cute you don’t want to correct their little slips. They are charming. But eventually they have to learn the correct words, pronunciation and terms for things in the world. Flash cards and work sheets and repetition all help. These landforms flash cards can help your kids too. Colourful Landforms Flash Cards At a certain point in the school curriculum, every child learns about geological features and landforms like lakes, peninsulas, mountains and basins. It’s around grade 4 or 5 here. Social sciences, and geography were some of my favourite subject areas in school. Learning about the earth and the landforms that made it up just made me want to travel. Then reading great books set in far-flung countries or islands, increased that wanderlust. That’s still true today actually. Every time I see an image of mountains, a photo or a Youtube video of a destination featuring mountains I am inspired to fly or drive there. When I read a story in which the setting is as defined and strong as a character, I am transfixed and transported and ready to visit. Encourage your kids to keep learning and exploring the world with a few easy resources. We can help with that. I have all sorts of free printables for kids. If you liked this then check out my Canada Colouring and Writing Book out now. Get the Flash Cards Here: Download easily below. And don’t miss the variety of other free kid’s activities that I have on my Free Printables Pinterest board. If you have any ideas for tools that you can use, let me know. I’d love to have one of my helpers create some for you.
