Gluten Free Lemon Squares – Sweet Indulgence

This month is such a great opportunity to show all your loves how much you care by baking, or making a special meal together. You might even create a sweet indulgence like these Gluten Free Lemon Squares. The winter doldrums won’t hit so hard if you break up the month with treats, and maybe take a break together too. These gluten free lemon treats are pretty easy to make and I happen to love all the lemony snacks as you know by now so these are a big hit with me. We just got back from a wonderful family ski trip to Vermont and loved every minute of it. Road trips and food go together like peanut butter and jelly. It was a 9 1/2 hour drive, so we certainly had food packed for the drive. We typically take carrots, celery, oranges, vegetable chips and a lot of water. But this time I also baked a banana bread and sliced it up for the long drive. That banana bread was tasty and a little reminder of home away from home. Road Trips always get me thinking what can we take with us, how can we eat better on the road, and how much food do we need? Also can I squeeze something super special and tasty in for car food? My family knows I always have something sweet to perk everyone up a little. And I typically pack printable road game scavenger hunts too. Who says car food, and car rides, need to be boring? No sooner were we back home from the Vermont trip than I started plotting our next getaway. Ski season is short and travel is essential when you ski, because you are always chasing the snow and the next great on mountain experience. We are heading straight back out on another road trip this week actually. But this time around I am bringing my Gluten Free Lemon Bars with us. That’s a sweet treat that my youngest daughter helped me to bake yesterday. She’s a great little chef and loves to be in the kitchen. Unless you are new here, you know by now that I have a longstanding sweet tooth issue. It’s my Achille’s Heel so to speak. Sugary snacks and treats are my favourite indulgence. Chocolate, cookies, jelly beans – I love all the sweets. Now don’t get me wrong at all. We eat mostly well and are super conscious of foods that fuel our bodies, especially when we are spending large amounts of time skiing, or swimming together. But, there’s nothing wrong with a couple of sweet indulgences from time to time. This week we are crushing on these Gluten Free Lemon Squares. I’ll let you in on a not so secretive fact about me – my two favourite, no three favourite flavours ever, are: caramel, butterscotch and lemon. Lemon treats, desserts, pies and candies are refreshing and, if done right, they are the perfect balance between sweet and tart. Sometimes romance in this house with a busy active family and a business is hard to find. So you have to steal small sweet indulgences. You know what I mean, right? Sneaking kisses in when the kids are busy texting someone. Making your spouse a coffee just the way they like it, and placing it in front of them without saying a word. Over the years my husband has become very good at surprising me with lemon treats. He knows that lemon meringue pie on an anniversary makes me happy. And a good cup of coffee is the way to my heart. This weekend we will be taking some of these scrumptious Gluten Free Lemon Squares with us when we head to Collingwood to ski. We’ll build memories and share something special together too at Parkbridge Resorts. In fact, these are perfect any time. Here are my picks for the Best Ever Lemon Desserts I could find. Do you have a lemon treat that is your favourite? Let me know in the comment section below. So you think you know me by now, right? Do you know what my favourite flavour in the universe is? I’ll give you three guesses. And the first one doesn’t count. That’s right. Lemon. Of all the natural and wonderful flavours in the universe, lemon is my favourite. Lemon meringue anything is my weakness. Lemon cheesecake, bars, tarts, or cake? Yes, please. There’s something so perfect about the mix of sweet and sour tang that makes me crave lemon desserts. So I thought I would pull together a few appealing lemon dessert recipes just for kicks. Lemon is easy to work with and always tastes fresh in my opinion. Now, the only issue I ever have with lemon recipes is the making of the merengue. That’s a bit tricky and demands patience. When life hands you lemons – make lemon desserts!! Of course. The best lemon desserts are the ones you have available to eat right now. I swear to you on all that I cherish, if the world of flavours dried up tomorrow and there was only lemon left, I would be totally fine with that. Lemon is my favourite flavour of all, ever. It makes me happy. Nothing like lemon to signal spring, summer, or even just a change of seasons. I just love it. My favourite of all time is lemon merengue pie. But lemon squares and tarts and even lemon flavoured cake makes me happy. So I rounded up a few of the best ones I could find to share with you. Raspberry lemonade flavoured drinks or treats. Do it Yourself Homemade Deodorant

As an alternative to store bought deodorants that often contain strange things you cannot even pronounce, many people prefer to make their own. There are many things that can be used as a natural deodorant. After doing some research recently I thought I’d give DIY Homemade Deodorant a try. DIY Homemade Deodorant There are many things that can be used as a natural deodorant. After doing some research recently I thought I’d give this a shot. I will have to let you know how well this works another time. With a tween and teen in the house I am sure you can all understand that deodorant is NOT a frill at all, but a necessity. And we go through it faster than ever before. I was surprised at the range of items you can use to make your own deodorant. One small caveat though: you will want to be sure that you test things before committing to them as your body may not agree with your choice. If you break out in a rash or the skin feels irritated be sure to switch to a new method. Many people prefer to add Essential Oils to these options listed below. Essential Oils are natural and will add your preferred scent to the option that you choose. Be sure to test that your underarms will tolerate the oils on your skin before adding them to your recipe for Do it Yourself homemade Deodorant. Personally although I love all of the essential oils I have here ( I have peppermint and rosemary and lavender oil too) but I like the natural scent of the coconut oil on its own. It is very summery. [tweetthis]There are many simple ways to make your own deodorant. #DIY #beauty[/tweetthis] There are several easy ways to make deodorant: Lemon Dab lemon juice under your arms, it will smell good as well as prevent sweating throughout the day. This method can work on almost any part of the body that sweats often. Baking Soda and Corn Starch You can use one or the other as well as choosing to use a mix of both. The baking soda will prevent sweating, while the corn starch will soak up moisture. Rubbing Alcohol You can use rubbing alcohol in the same manner that you would use lemon as mentioned above. Witch Hazel Witch Hazel has been said to work well as a deodorant. Its astringent-like qualities help to clear pours and block sweat from occurring. Coconut Oil Coconut oil also works well on its own as a sweat blocker. It will block the pores from sweating as well as moisturize in the process. Basic Recipe (but this is the one we made) Ingredients ¼ Cup Baking Soda ¼ Cup Corn Starch 5 Tablespoons Coconut Oil 1/8 Cup Arrow Root (Optional, reduce Coconut Oil to 3 or 4 tablespoons if opting out of using the arrow root.) Essential Oils (Optional, be sure your skin will tolerate essential oils before using them in this recipe.) We didn’t use any this time. Simply mix the above ingredients together and store in a well-covered container. So easy! Plus it smells great! Pin this for later because it is useful for those times when you run out. By the way my 11-year-old was very much into this DIY process.
