Did you know that April is National Oral Health Care month? It’s also the perfect reminder that it’s important to pay special attention to our teeth and overall oral hygiene, which can have a tremendous impact on our overall health. Did you know that poor oral health can lead to gum disease, which left untreated, can lead to the loss of teeth…and sometimes heart disease? Now that my kids are teenagers I discuss the impact of poor oral health care on them more than I ever used to do. Both my girls are old enough to understand that there are no short cuts to good oral health care. Skipping brushing, missing flossing, can lead to cavities and costly dentist’s appointments. Life is all about the little moments. What’s oral health care got to do with that? Well, here’s my take. Don’t shy away from the smiles and the selfies when you are having a good time. Capture all the smiles. Then hold them close. They will carry you through some of the harder days. So take care of those pearly whites and flash them every chance you have. To get you started on the path towards a brighter, whiter smile, I suggest the following tips: Oral Health Care for the kids: Children often look at mom and dad as role models, so make sure you lead by example and talk to them about the importance of taking care of their teeth and gums! Let them see you brushing your teeth. · Suggest using a timer or a song to ensure that the kiddies are brushing for as long as they’re supposed to. You can even make it a family activity by doing it all together. · Give your kiddos a bonus for brushing. A sticker chart that keeps track of their brushing habits is a great way to give them an incentive to brush. · Introduce a toothpaste and brush that features one of your kids favourite characters – such as the Orajel™ Spiderman™ and My Little Pony™ Anticavity Fluoride Toothpaste and the Kids Spinbrush™ My Little Pony™ Battery Toothbrush. It keeps things exciting while practicing healthy habits! Oral Health Care For adults: Make sure you’re brushing and flossing at least twice a day to achieve optimal oral health. · The Canadian Dental Association recommends replacing your toothbrush or toothbrush head every three months or sooner if it becomes worn, for an optimal clean. · Use a battery-powered toothbrush with sonic pulsating action. For example, the new Arm & Hammer™ Sonic Pulse Battery Toothbrush is clinically proven to remove 2X more plaque versus a manual toothbrush. This toothbrush has a slim, ergonomic handle, and comes with a replaceable head and battery! This one is my favourite! It keeps my teeth shiny and works better than a manual toothbrush. · If you can’t resist desserts and candy, pay attention! Foods that contains a lot of sugar can stain your teeth and soften tooth enamel. I recommend Arm & Hammer™ Truly Radiant™ Clean & Fresh™ Toothpaste for enamel safe whitening and lasting freshness plus it prevents tartar build up. This is an area where I need to improve. Arm & Hammer has a great resource page with dental health details. Take the time to check it out. This month make it your goal to wear a smile and take care of your teeth. How are you practicing good oral health habits? I am a Church and Dwight ambassador and as such I receive compensation. My opinion is all my own and is also truthful.

Oral health is so important to our overall health, and it’s vital that we make sure our children have good oral health habits like brushing and flossing 2 to 3 times daily. This is even more important when Halloween rolls around. All that candy coming in may be tasty, but it’s also terrible for the teeth. This Halloween help your kids remember their oral health with Philips Sonicare and Furball Pal Sparkly. Oral Health for Better Health Oral health is key to keeping our entire body healthy. Did you know that poor oral health can lead to damage of organs like the heart, liver, and kidneys? It’s true. Bacteria enters the bloodstream through infected gums and can cause internal damage. The key to preventing that is teaching the kids about how important regular brushing and flossing are. [tweetthis]Help your kids remember their oral health with Philips Sonicare and Furball Pal Sparkly. #ad[/tweetthis] Philips Sonicare is partnering with Furball Pal Sparkly to help parents keep the importance of healthy teeth and gums in the forefront of children’s minds by keeping it fun. The Sonicare is easy to use, and the Philips Sonicare for Kids App helps children brush the proper length of time and hit all of their teeth well by keeping the entire process fun instead of making it a chore. That’s so important with Halloween in full swing. I’ve never been a parent to rain on the Halloween candy parade, so I’ve always made sure that if the kids are going to eat a lot of candy, they’re also going to do an extra good job of brushing their teeth and flossing too. Together Philips and Sparkly encourage kids to take ownership of their oral health routine. It encourages the kids to practice good oral health in a way that’s fun and encouraging. Philips is the Leader in Oral Health In addition to encouraging the kids to take care of their mouths, Philips Sonicare also does a great job of keeping those teeth clean. The patented sonic technology drives fluid between the teeth and long the gum line, gently applying more than 500 brush strokes per second! It removes up to 75% more plaque than regular brushing in hard to reach areas, and the Connected Philips Sonicare for Kids even has a Kid Timer and KidPacer for the best brushing guidance available. Plus, it has 8 stickers so kids can customize the handle. We all know how much kids love stickers. I love that the kids can personalize their own toothbrushes. That makes brushing more fun. Oral Health this Halloween Halloween is almost here and because it happens only once a year it’s okay to let kids enjoy their night. But while they’re enjoying their sweet treats, it’s important not to let oral health fall through the cracks. This Halloween, help the kids maintain good oral health with the Connected Philips Sonicare for Kids and Furball Pal Sparkly. It’s a fun way to help the kids practice great oral health and still keep it fun. My girls both received one of these Sonicare toothbrushes. My younger daughter Ainsley told me tonight when brushing her teeth and actually enjoying brushing – “This toothbrush makes me want to brush more often.” And as a result her teeth have never looked whiter! I am pretty happy with that. A Few More Details: · Patented sonic technology drives fluid between teeth and along the gum-line, gently delivering more than 500 brush strokes per second (your kids can’t make that happen on their own no matter how old they are) · Removes up to 75% more plaque than a manual toothbrush in hard to reach areas (that’s crucial. One of my girls has sticky plaque and needs more help getting rid of it.) · KidTimer and KidPacer for optimal brushing guidance · 8 stickers for a customized handle Suggested Retail Price: $59.99 Available: Shoppers Drug Mart, Walmart, Loblaws, Amazon.ca and London Drugs I received two of the toothbrushes mentioned here for purposes of sharing. My opinion is all my own. I like these Sonicare toothbrushes because they get teeth cleaner than manual brushing alone. They are the best toothbrushes the kids have ever had. Definitely worth it. They come with a charging stand and rechargeable battery. They also come with a two year warranty. The company recommends replacing the brush heads roughly every 3 months.
