This summer, I am hoping more than anything that we have, first of all, our vaccines. Second of all, I hope we have some chances to explore and have fun together. If you are looking for some easy and fun activities to do with family, then you might enjoy my summer scavenger hunt. It’s anybody’s guess what the summer will look like. But, it has to be better than this. Hopefully we have all had our first shot of the Covid-19 vaccine and we can rest a little easier than we are currently. What’s on Your Mind this Summer? But even if we are close to home and spending all of the days nearby, I have you covered with several fun activities like this summer scavenger hunt and also this indoor scavenger hunt. During the summer, in addition to hitting the beach, my family enjoys swimming in our pool. Last year, we were never more grateful to have a home with a pool. I like to keep a variety of pool toys and floats on hand for lounging, or a fun water-based game. Water toys and floats keep us all in the pool swimming longer and that’s a great goal for any age. Swimming is a healthy activity for families. This past year, we have done a lot of walking too, pretty much every single day. Summer Fun is right around the corner and even during a pandemic, while you might have to look harder to find it, it is possible to have fun. Check out this summer cooking challenge or this summer drawing challenge while you are at it. Other Fun Printables How to Download This Activity. Click on the link below and download this easy summer scavenger hunt.

Doesn’t a St. Patrick’s Day Treasure Hunt sound like fun this month? Keeping Spirits Up Like a lot of you I am trying to keep spirits up a bit this year. So, with that in mind, even though we don’t typically have huge St. Patrick’s Day Treasure Hunt celebrations here, I thought this might be a fun opportunity this year. Easy Ideas and Treasures to Share With a few simple treasures, like candy from the bulk baking store nearby, or small craft items from the Dollar Store, you can set up a cute little treasure hunt in your home. Each of these little squares is a clue that the kids need to decode. Cut them out and print them off, then hand them out one by one or hand the first one out only. Set this up the night before with those fun little chocolate coins that look like leprechaun’s treasure. A quick trip to the Bulk Barn or a similar store will do it. So for instance then leave the second clue where the first treasure is and they can keep moving forward through the home to gather each ticket and each treasure. At the end you could have a much larger treasure, a pot of gold coins, or a written IOU for a family movie night. It depends on the age of your child, what the treasure is and what sort of sweet gift will resonate. To Get This Easy Treasure Hunt Click below on the link and it will pop up in a new window. If you are interested in other St. Patrick’s Day games and fun activities just visit my Pinterest board for more. Here it is – St. Patrick’s day Pinterest ideas. There are tons of great ideas here from all over.

Well, I know it’s not exactly right around the corner or anything but here’s to St. Patrick’s Day. This year, we are celebrating with a St. Patrick’s Day Scavenger Hunt and maybe some green foods or drinks. It was St. Patrick’s Day roughly in 2020 when Coronavirus kicked it up a great deal and sent us all for a loop here. Our spring break vacation was cancelled entirely when the border between Canada and the US was closed to travel. That was a very hard period of time and the start of a long haul through 2020. But, here we are closer to the end of this pandemic. Still Struggling? Check out my Pandemic Content over on CBC Parents. Hope it helps. We didn’t feel much like celebrating then that’s for sure. Anyways, this year I am hoping for a much better St. Patrick’s Day and a sweeter month of March for you. Maybe this St. Patrick’s Day scavenger hunt will add to the fun. Print it out and share with your family or friends. Don’t Miss These St. Patrick’s Day Activities: St. Patrick’s Day Colouring Page March 17 Word Search for St. Patrick’s Day! How to Use This Activity First of all, download my St. Patrick’s Day Scavenger Hunt from the file below. I assure you it is a simple and clean link. Then grab a pen or some pencils and maybe a clipboard if you have one and get hunting. Remember, if you use one of my printables or activities, please leave me a comment here or on Pinterest so I know that they are useful. Have Fun! Drink responsibly this year and always.

A sensory scavenger hunt is perfect for so many kids. Whether they are sensory seekers or avoiders, there’s a little something for any child here. Some of you by now are aware that my kids have a fair number of sensory issues. So sensory stuff here is second nature. And I am sure that you know that we love scavenger hunts. My oldest would literally still do this actually. She is the crafty kind of kid who lives to get outside exploring and then brings what she has found indoors to build something crafty or creative with it. I am always up for a walk, so that works for me. Anyways, here’s a sweet Five Senses Sensory Scavenger Hunt. So here’s the thing. We are fully aware that there are more than five senses. But this is for simplicity sake. Your kids, if younger, don’t really want to hear all about proprioceptive senses, do they? There are More Than Five Senses Another day we can get into that ball of wax. For now, this is intended to be a simple activity with free printable for your kids. If you homeschool, or have a daycare even, then feel free to print this out and use it as a tool to keep kids occupied and creating something fun together. How Do I Print This? Here you go. This is super simple. Click on the link below and check it out. This scavenger hunt will download easily and without a fuss. If You Like This Sensory Scavenger Hunt, There’s More…

This Valentine’s Scavenger Hunt for families can get them thinking outside the box after tearing into the chocolates and treats. So, first of all Happy Valentine’s Day! I am always a little excited about this day because it brings out the child in me. That’s why, in that spirit, I thought I’d share my Valentine’s Scavenger Hunt! Celebrate Love and Friendship I can easily recall making those adorable little Valentine’s crafts at school. For instance, every year at my elementary school in Guelph we brought in old tissue boxes and made cute little boxes for our Valentine’s cards. Here’s a post you might enjoy about Valentine’s Day crafts for kids. Fun Valentine’s Scavenger Hunt Doesn’t everyone enjoy a good scavenger hunt? I know when my kids were small we used to do them often as a means of getting outside into the neighbourhood and keeping them busy on a walk. Valentine’s Day is just a fun day to show people you love them or to show friends that you care. These days, those little reminders of love are more than welcome and necessary. The world at large benefits when we share joy and love and messages of hope. FYI, I have some adorable Star Wars Valentine’s cards you might want to share this year.

Well, here we sit in the middle of cold and flu season during a pandemic. Why not download this Sick Day Scavenger Hunt and keep it for those days when you need a little something low key to do at home. Colds Happen. Be Prepared That’s pretty much my Motto. This time of year you can try to avoid all of the germs and you definitely should. But, also be prepared. Kids get sick. Period. They are germ magnets. While I hope nobody I know gets anything more than a cold this year, I am sure there are a few of you home right now nursing sick little ones who are also unable to attend school until their symptoms clear up, and/ or they get a Covid test. Sick Days Are Inevitable I feel your pain. Whether you are a parent nursing littles at home during sickness, or a single adult struggling to get well on your own, being sick is crappy. There’s nothing nice about feeling under the weather. Frankly, I have also found that being genuinely ill always made me miss my mother and appreciate all of the things that she once did for us when we were under the weather. Grandma’s House When I was small I often went to my grandma’s house to recuperate if I couldn’t go to school. My Mom was a single parent and a school teacher so she couldn’t take days off just to look after a kid with a cold. So, I spent many afternoons at my Grandma’s home in Guelph. Other Printable Word Games If you are a parent who brings in grandmas or grandpas to help right now when kids are sick, then check out all of the printable activities I have here on Pinterest. Don’t Miss the Winter Word Search too. A certain amount of sickness and sick days are just expected this time of year. Pretty much standard especially if you have kids in school or daycare. In MY Home… Every year in my home we end up with a cold or flu that makes the rounds. Flu shots are not negotiable. We will also all be ready to get Coronavirus vaccines as soon as humanly possible. Fingers crossed that is soon. Making blanket forts in the living room, chilling and reading in bed, or watching Netflix shows together while recuperating are all great ways to have a low key recovery while spending some time together. But, what about a sick day scavenger hunt? If you are kind of in that in between zone worried about going back to school or work too soon while also getting bored out of your mind, then it could be time to bring in reinforcements. At my house, reinforcements come in the form of easy and fun printable activities like this Sick Day Scavenger Hunt. This Sick Day Scavenger Hunt is a great way to spend an afternoon when you are too ill to be out in public. Please remember to follow the rules for your city/ province and state if you are out and about. How to Use This! Click the link below and it will allow you to download this fun scavenger hunt. Want More Ideas? Try this adorable Family Card Game that has a Scavenger Hunt Focus.

A Winter Scavenger hunt is a great way to get outside and have some fun, with social distancing in mind of course. It’s easy to find ways to get and be out of doors when the spring and summer months are here. But winter gets a bad wrap that way. Post may contain affiliate links as a service to readers. I receive a small commission from purchases made. Getting Outside in the Winter When my kids were small we deliberately hustled them outside even in the winter months. In our yard, we built igloos and raced down the slide on the outdoor climbing structure and treehouse that we had dominating our backyard. We gathered up all of the winter gear and bundled the little people in our home up. Snowsuits, mittens and warm hats always were nearby in the hall closet and we had a solid fence keeping the kids safe. So, often after dinner we would simply throw all of our warmest clothing on and go play in the snowy backyard. Our backyard at our old house was amazing. My kids still talk about it to this day. It was spacious and a massive old ash tree stood smack dab in the centre of the yard. The perimeter was lined with cedars that we planted ourselves, providing a natural privacy barrier from the neighbours our back. It was far from fancy, but our yard was perfect for playing with children and ideal for hosting birthday parties too. Playing Takes Planning Sometimes When we purchased our Rainbow systems play structure with swings and slide and climbing wall we were thrilled. It was central to our play all year round. Plus, my kitchen had a huge window overlooking the yard so no matter what time of year or how old the kids were we could watch them from the window and know they were safe. Toys for Outdoors FYI this is what our outdoor swings and playset looked like…But it was Rainbow. These are sturdy and lasted us for easily 8-10 years. First we had this Step 2 playhouse for the toddlers. Of course, when my kids were very small I was out there always with them. That one time I left to go in to the bathroom, my two year old broke the back door trying to get in. I was mere feet away going to the washroom for two minutes and yet she couldn’t see me so instant freak out. Live and Learn That washroom trip by myself cost $1800. Yes, that was the cost to repair the door so huge lesson learned. My youngest girl could not amuse herself or be on her own. To this day she hates to be by herself. Anyways, this winter if you are looking for ways to get the kids outside then tempt them with a winter scavenger hunt. Print out the Winter Scavenger Hunt Sheet Below Scavenger hunts are super easy and fun. All you need are pencils, erasers, clipboards and some good warm clothing and you are set. If you haven’t seen this indoor scavenger hunt then print one off for later and use on a snowy or rainy afternoon. Have Fun with Your Family This Winter This is a simple activity that can create a lot of fun memories for your kids. My girls are teenagers now and they both still recall fondly all of the winter nights we played outside in the yard, or strolled down the street with clipboards and scavenger hunts. I occasionally motivated them with a treat along the way. But, you can also get your steps in too. Not a bad way to spend an hour after dinner! Don’t Forget These Check out my recommendations for supplies that you can stock up on and then get outside and have fun together.

Here’s an easy way to cope with birthdays this year. Why not give a birthday scavenger hunt a try? Tenth Birthday Celebrations When both of my girls turned ten, we did some amazing fun things to celebrate their birthdays. Together, with my entire family we took my oldest girl to Disney and the Kennedy Space Centre. My youngest got tickets to see Katie Perry in concert with us. But, before we gave her the tickets we did a birthday scavenger hunt. Hidden Clues I hid clues around the house and they led her on a quick tour to find the next clue. One by one she turned them over and followed the instructions. She LOVED that and I adored seeing the glee on her face as she figured each out.. Eventually, the three of us took the train to Ottawa and Montreal and spent a few days exploring, before we attended the concert. A Montreal girl’s trip was just the right thing to launch her into double digits. That birthday scavenger hunt was the thing that started the entire adventure. Of course, we have also celebrated our birthdays. I had a surprise birthday party for my husband’s 40th about a decade ago. That was a hoot, actually. We were living in our old house then and we had small children by that time. This year, I like this birthday scavenger hunt for a lot of reasons. By now, almost everyone has had a pandemic birthday. Not quite so fun as the epic adventures we once had before this awful year. But, still if you are looking for some alternative ways to celebrate a birthday this year, this birthday scavenger hunt might help. Get this Scavenger Hunt Now Katie Perry puts on an incredible show, by the way. So, if you ever have the chance to see her, then take it and go. If you have girls, or music lovers, they will adore it. I’ll never forget my tween dancing in the aisles of the concert venue as the lights strobed rainbow colours overhead. Birthday Scavenger Hunt Take some time to print this off now. Do let me know if you use it this year and drop a comment here.

I declare it time for a fun Christmas Scavenger Hunt! Alrighty, so we all know that this year has been a lot. And the holidays, birthdays and such have all been done just a little bit differently. So, you might be looking for ways to occupy the kids and amuse others during the holidays while maintaining a bit of social distancing. Bring on a Christmas Scavenger Hunt! That’s why I am sharing some more fun Christmas activities for families. This Christmas Scavenger Hunt is just adorable. You could however play these games virtually or with friends via Face time. Or you might just share this Christmas Scavenger Hunt with your kids. What’s Your Plan for Christmas? No idea whether we will be able to travel yet or not this season but I am forever hopeful that ski season will resume, even if slightly modified and maybe even just locally in Ontario. That will make my year actually. As long as I can ski after all of this I will be fine. Christmas is a great time to get outside and have some fun too. Make a snowman, go for a toboggan ride, strap a pair of skates or skis on and have fun! If at all possible, I will be tubing and skiing. I will be praying mean time, that we all stay safe and that the border opens up and things are safe again soon. I can’t wait until we are able to head to Vermont with my family again. That’s my happy place. A ski hill, mountain or resort. I love Christmas and frankly all of the joy that buying presents and sharing them with someone special entails. But, like a lot of you, I’d much rather have experiences than spend huge amounts on gifts. My Christmas Scavenger Hunt Enjoy my Christmas Scavenger Hunt and don’t miss all of the other amazing Christmas printables here to do and share. Check out my Pinterest board for free printables and activities that you can do with your family right now!
