Replace your vacuum when it’s worn out. That seems simple, right? However, the big question is when is a vacuum worn out? Should even wait until it’s worn out or should you upgrade after a few years? How long do vacuum cleaners even last? A slew of questions surrounds the idea of replacing your vacuum. That’s why you’re here. You need to know when to replace your vacuum. So let’s talk about that. Post contains affiliate links as a service to my readers. I make a small commission on qualifying purchases. Vacuum Cleaner Lifespan Vacuum cleaners last for around eight years, on average. However, your mileage may vary. More than brand or model, it’s your usage that ultimately determines how long your vacuum cleaner will last. If you live in a small apartment, you’ll get far more life out of your vacuum than you would if you lived in a large house. It’s all about use. Should You Replace Your Vacuum If your vacuum isn’t doing the job it used to, don’t immediately kick it to the curb. It may be a simple matter of a clogged hose or old beater brushes that are making old faithful not so faithful anymore. Before springing for that five hundred dollar beauty you saw the last time you were at the department store, do a little troubleshooting to ensure that your vacuum isn’t just in need of a little TLC. Check the Hoses Sometimes, the problem may be nothing more than a clogged hose. Over the course of years, dust and fine particles can collect in hoses, causing a clog over time. Always check your hoses for clogs if you have suction issues. Check the Filter Many people don’t realize vacuum cleaners come with filters. A clogged filter restricts airflow and, thus, suction. While we’re on the subject, you should check your vacuum’s air filter once a month or every two weeks for heavy use. Check the Drive Belt Over time, your drive belt can stretch, come off the track, or dry rot. In any of these cases, your vacuum cleaner won’t perform because the beaters aren’t doing their job. Have it Repaired A relatively new vacuum – only a year or two old – shouldn’t have any problems at all. If you have a fairly new vacuum cleaner with issues, take full advantage of your warranty. If your warranty has expired, it’s still worth the money to take your machine to a local repair shop to figure out what’s wrong with it and possibly repair it. Replace Your Vacuum If you’ve done all your troubleshooting, and your vacuum is still struggling, it may be time to replace it. This is especially true if it’s past its prime. With so many advances in vacuums and their ability to clean more and better, it can actually be a good thing for your home and your health to upgrade. That’s the silver lining to having to buy a new machine. Today’s machines pick up more dirt and debris, have better filter systems, and generally get more gunk out of your home than vacuums that were on the market as little as two or three years ago. Vacuuming Doesn’t Need to Be a Pain So if you’re rocking a vacuum that was all the rage back when NSYNC was still a thing, it’s probably for the best that it broke down. Embrace the process and go out looking for a shiny new vacuum cleaner that will leave your home as dust free as possible. A good new vacuum can change your cleaning process and make your life simpler.

Vacuuming stairs is nothing if not a challenge. It’s the hardest spot in your home to vacuum. We have a couple of steep and lengthy staircases and they get a lot of traffic so they need a good cleaning at least weekly. It’s so hard to get stairs clean. Sure many vacuums have hose attachments, but they’re rarely long enough to get all the way up the stairs. Which means at some point, I often do my Amazing Stair Balance Act wherein I simultaneously hold the vacuum in place with my feet while using both hands to vacuum the stairs. Of course, all of this has to happen without me tumbling to my doom (or at least twisting something). It’s not just vacuuming stairs that thwarts me, though. It’s getting a big vacuum head under furniture. We all have allergies, so I have to regularly clean all the hair, dust, debris, and everything else that lives in the carpet, no matter where that may be. For me, that usually means actually moving furniture. A job that I already don’t love quickly becomes a furniture moving session, which is not awesome. Needless to say, vacuuming is one of the most annoying of ALL the chores in my house. That’s why I’m a big fan of the Hoover Impulse Cordless Vacuum. Laundry is a close second. Both of these household chores are so repetitive and never ending it’s frustrating sometimes. Vacuuming Stairs and Pretty Much Everywhere Just Got Easier Let me just say they got the name right with this one! You know how when you work from home you occasionally get derailed by impulsive cleaning or baking? Yeah neither do I. Totally kidding. This is my life. Sometimes when working I procrastinate because I work from home and random dusty corners scream: “Clean Me.” The Hoover Impulse fuels this habit in a weird way. It makes cleaning up so much easier. In fact, my daughters can vacuum more often now because this vacuum takes away the “it’s too hard” excuse, which I love, FYI. With no cord, a low profile head, and a weight of less than six pounds, it’s a versatile vacuum that helps all of us be able to easily vacuum the stairs, under the furniture, and even pull it out for quick spot vacuuming of dry messes. One of the things I love most about this vacuum is that in addition to being light-weight and easy to use, it’s incredibly versatile. It can either be a light-weight upright or a handheld vacuum in one easy motion, making it even more flexible. It also features a powerful, fade-free lithium-ion battery, which means it is just as powerful when you need to charge it as it is at full charge. I love that! Features Here’s why the Hoover Impulse Cordless Vacuum makes vacuuming stairs and other hard-to-reach places so easy. Cordless Fade-free lithium-ion battery Less than 6 pounds in weight Low profile head for under-furniture vacuuming Multi-floor design for carpet and hard flooring Quickly converts to a handheld vacuum Hoover Dashboard for easily selecting modes and power level to optimize vacuuming Wall mount for easy, out-of-the-way storage Vacuuming Stairs is no Longer a Hazard for YOU I have to be honest, there have been times when I’ve been vacuuming our stairs that I was happy I had life insurance. Vacuuming stairs with a traditional vacuum can be awkward. All that balancing and moving around with one foot holding the vacuum in place while the other attempts to maintain balance – crazy! With our new Hoover Impulse Cordless Vacuum, vacuuming stairs, under furniture, and quickly picking up spot messes is more convenient and much faster. I want vacuuming to be easier for you, too. That’s why I’m giving away a Hoover Impulse Cordless Vacuum to one lucky reader! That’s right one of you will be on your way to vacuuming stairs without fear in no time. So enter! As a TTi floor care ambassador I receive compensation. My opinion is all my own. Entry-Form

I am a Hoover ambassador and as such I have been compensated. My opinion is all my own and it is truthful. Hoover Air Steerable Pet Upright Vacuum is an excellent option if you have a pet or if you just have a lot of hair in your home in general. Dirt, dust and hair are no match for this new Hoover vacuum. The Hoover air steerable upright is your answer to whole-home cleaning. Your pets are members of the family and you couldn’t imagine life without them. But you definitely could do without the tumbleweeds of pet hair blowing down the hall and the patches of fur on the sofa, the clothing, the pillows and the bed. You vacuum often, but the hair is still there. It sort of clings to carpet and furniture fibres, as well as nicks in hardwood or tile flooring, making it hard to get up. The same cleaning dilemma holds true in my house. Even though I don’t have pets, I have two daughters with long hair. I also have long hair. Try as I might, hair is everywhere. Between the three of us hair ends up being our biggest problem along with dust of course and regular outdoor allergens that people track in routinely. That’s why the Hoover Air Steerable Upright has become a staple in my house. The Hoover Air Steerable Cleans Up And that’s what you want. I have always had a terrible time with vacuuming up hair. My daughters both have beautiful heads of hair, but with so much of it on the floor, you would wonder how they have any left! Oh if you have teen girls I am sure you can relate. They are extremely messy creatures. This vacuum helps me get rid of the hair easily and more thoroughly which is key whenever you’re dealing with pets and/or kids who shed. In addition to getting up the hair easily, the Hoover Air Steerable is lightweight, which makes it easy to navigate around furniture and up and down stairs. This one is light enough that I can hand it off to my daughters and let them clean portions of the house. The Hoover Air Steerable makes cleaning easier due to how light and flexible it is. I am actually super impressed with this vacuum. Hoover Air Steerable Pet Upright Vacuum Specs This vacuum may be lightweight, but it’s no lightweight in the power department. That’s what I like so much about it. It works very well without being cumbersome and clunky. Take a look: WindTunnel 3 Technology creates three channels of suction to quickly and efficiently life dirt and debris. Steerable Technology for tight turns and easy maneuverability around furniture, corners, and tight spaces. (This is my favourite feature actually. I don’t think I have ever had a vacuum here that is so maneuverable. It pivots effortlessly. ) Only 14 pounds with wand and tools onboard for easy use. AllergenBlock Technology prevents pet dander, dirt, dust, and other particulates from re-entering the air. Conquer Your Messes with Hoover Air Steerable I have tested, used and owned many vacuums here. I’m a bit of a vacuum fiend. Every vacuum really has the same purpose but it’s the technology and the weight that are the details that change it up every time. So, when I get a chance to see something truly new on a vacuum I enjoy sharing that and using it too. In fact, the Hoover Air Steerable Pet Upright Vacuum has impressive suction. Completely comparable to higher priced models in my opinion. Bagless vacuums just make sense and are really the standard now. Yes it’s lightweight but so are many others. The maneuverable head has also knocked my socks off. I am not a person that loves cleaning, but I won’t judge you if you are someone who enjoys cleaning. What I do enjoy is a newer take on a old stand appliance and technology that makes life easier makes me happy. The Hoover Air Steerable Pet Upright Vacuum is powerful and lightweight, making it the best tool for vacuuming up all the junk that accumulates on your floors without being so hard on your back and shoulders like other vacuums can be. That’s doubly true if you have stairs. The Hoover Air Steerable has made a big difference in the hair situation in our house. I’ve had this sweet little vacuum here for a couple of weeks now and I am using it often. I highly recommend it, especially if you have pets or kids who shed like pets. Entry-Form

Dirt Devil Reach Max Plus 3-in-1 makes vacuuming easier and lighter too. I’m not in to vacuuming. Not even a little bit. Truthfully, I’m not into a lot of domestic chores. I’d rather dust than do the vacuuming, and we all know how much more difficult that is. I think it’s because of all the cord hassle and having to lug the thing around. It gets annoying. In fact the weight of some heavy vacuums is completely a hassle. These days, vacuuming is less horrible for me now that I’m using the Dirt Devil Reach Max Plus 3-in-1. Dirt Devil Reach Max Plus 3-in-1 – Easy Peasy Vacuuming Traditionally, vacuuming is an exercise in frustration. I always have to find a strategically placed outlet so I can reach the most floor space in my house before I have to find another plug. I have to lug around a heavy vacuum up and down stairs. I can NEVER do as good a job as I’d like under the furniture unless I actually move it. It’s a pain. Hmm. Look at that. I guess I DO know why I’m not a fan of vacuuming. At any rate, vacuuming is the worst in my opinion. But since I’ve been using the Reach Max Plus 3-in-1, vacuuming has been far less tortuous. I love this vacuum because it takes away all the things I hate about vacuuming. It has a powerful 24V battery that gives plenty of suction from start to finish so I don’t have to worry about cords. It’s lightweight so I don’t feel like I’m doing strength training every time I vacuum. It’s a stick model, so it’s incredibly easy to vacuum under the furniture, which is nice. And perhaps the most wonderful feature of all for me is that it converts to a hand held vacuum, so I can do the stairs without having to lug a big machine up and down the stairs. In addition to these convenient features, the Dirt Devil Reach Max Plus 3-in-1 also boasts a brush head design that’s designed to power through messes on both carpet and hard floors, and the battery I mentioned earlier has a longer run time and charges four times faster than other brand’s batteries. Woo hoo! Change the Way you Vacuum with Dirt Devil Reach Max Plus 3-in-1 The Dirt Devil Reach Max 3-in-1 has changed the way I clean my floors. Now I get it done faster, better, and more easily than I ever did before, and that means everything to me. I still don’t love to vacuum, but now when I’m finished, I look around and realize I did it in half the time and two times better. Score! If you’re tired of lugging around a corded behemoth, give the Dirt Devil Reach Max Plus 3-in-1 a look. It’s certainly changed the way I clean my floors! I received a Dirt Devil for purposes of this review. My opinion is all my own and it is also truthful.

I recently got my hands on an Oreck Venture Bagged Canister Vacuum, and I’m enjoying giving it a whirl. I’ve already vacuumed my office a few times, and the house has had a good once over, as well. My Oreck Venture is getting a workout, and my home is getting cleaner which is increasingly important as spring brings allergens and dust in the door. Oreck Venture – Powerful and Practical When I got this vacuum, I was eager to start using it, but I wasn’t eager to put it together. I’m not a “some assembly required” kind of girl. BUT I put my vacuum together in all of 1 minute, so that tells you how simple this was. That’s how easy it was to assemble the Oreck Venture. That’s important to me. I want to use my vacuum, not decipher 3 pages of assembly instructions. I also love the look of this vacuum. It has a super sleek design of nice smooth edges, a black body and vacuum head, and chromed handle. It looks like a sports car for my carpeting and floors. It’s super easy to use, as well, and it was designed for working around furniture. It can lay almost completely flat for cleaning under furniture, and its side brushes work with the 7,000 RPM direct suction head to clean both the deepest pile carpeting and baseboards. And with a HEPA filter, this bad boy grabs 99.97% of dust and allergens. Oreck Venture Bagged Canister Vacuum Specs SlimSwivel design lies almost completely flat for easy vacuuming around and under furniture. Sound baffling design to keep the noise down. Straight suction nozzle for powerful hard floor cleaning. HEPA Media Filter traps 99.97% of dust, dirt, and pollens to 0.3 microns. (That’s important because at least 3 of us have diagnosed environmental allergies and a minimum of one of us sneezes non stop starting any time now until say September 22nd or so.) Above floor cleaning up to 3.35 meters 7 meter auto cord rewind. Crevice tool, dusting brush, hard floor brush, and telescoping extension wand included. (I like that they tuck away nicely inside the machine. But there’s one of the larger brushes that won’t fit. Sometimes I wish all of the tools fit inside the machine neatly. 5 year repair only warranty. Redeem at any Canadian Tire store. The Oreck Venture Sucks (In a Good Way) After using the Oreck Venture Bagged Canister Vacuum for a week now, I can say that it’s a great vacuum cleaner. We also have an upright that is a different brand. Every vacuum does something a little bit unique not unique cars. The Oreck Venture has great power, portability, and flexibility, and it looks great, too! On top of that, the cord and hose length make it easy for me to hit every area of the room from top to bottom. [tweetthis]The Oreck Venture Bagged Canister has great power, portability, and flexibility, and it looks great, too! [/tweetthis] If you’re in the market for a new vacuum, I encourage you to give the Oreck Venture Bagged Canister Vacuum a look. It’s been nothing but fantastic for me from super fast assembly to super thoroughly cleaning. I received an Oreck Venture for consideration here on Thrifty Momma’s Tips. My opinion is all my own and it is truthful.

Meet my new dance partner. I am actually not the world’s biggest cleaning fan. Happily my husband doesn’t seem to mind and often takes over the dishes, laundry and vacuuming. But this beautiful cordless vacuum has me changing my tune. The Hoover Air Cordless Upright provides fifty minutes of cleaning and good suction power. It’s a full-size cordless, cyclonic vacuum that can clean your whole home using lithium-ion battery technology. The vacuum comes with two LithiumLife batteries and when combined; provides an average of 50 minutes of fade-free power to clean both carpets and floors. I have a mixture of floors and carpets and it switches easily between the two. The see through canister is curiously compelling. I know we clean, but there’s really this much dust? That’s stunning. The canister needs to be emptied every couple of uses. This particular unit comes with two filters. The filter should be cleaned every three to four uses. It also comes with two lithium batteries and a charger. I find that I can vacuum my whole house and then recharge the battery. There is enough power to clean a 2,500 square foot home with no loss of suction and without recharging. The WindTunnel 3.0 technology allows you to clean deep with three nozzle channels of powerful suction to capture dirt — other vacuums rely on one. The head of the vacuum swivels easily and I love that. I have an older vacuum with the canister that you drag that is not an upright and although my old vacuum has good suction it is a complete beast to lug around the house. Forget doing stairs with it. It’s heavy. This one is not! The Hoover Air Cordless Upright vacuum weighs less than ten pounds! Here are a few more stats: * It includes a steerable design. (I can’t tell you how awesome that is getting around furniture.) * weighs just 9.9 lbs * removable cleaning tools. And did I mention that it is backed by a five-year limited warranty. This unit sells for $399. Not only will you have the freedom of vacuuming all the floors in your house without having to unplug and plug back in, you’ll now be able to get into those hard to reach spaces. The powerful and light weight design allows for you to really get a deep clean with the easy maneuvering of vacuuming without an immobile cord attachment. I had no idea how much I would love a cordless vacuum. Now I have no clue how I lived without one this long. This post contains affiliate links. I received product in order to facilitate the review and giveaway. My opinion is all my own. I love this vacuum. It’s the nicest and lightest one I have ever had. It takes the chore out of doing the vacuuming. Entry-Form
