Fun Spring Break Recap Activity

Well, Spring Break this year has been full of surprises already. Just a few weeks ago we were all assuming that spring break would be in March as usual. But then it got shifted to April here in Ontario. That was clearly shocking to many people. I’m not sure it matters anymore, I mean not like we are able to travel or go anywhere outside the province. Whether spring break is in March or April seems like a trivial thing after this year that we have had. Dates hardly matter these days. Many of us wake up still and wonder what the heck day it is! Ultimately, what matters most still is family and health and getting through this pandemic to the other side. I am hoping we will get our vaccines in the second round soon. Fingers crossed. Then I will start dreaming about adventures again. This April I’d be happy to have some down time on spring break to go hiking or visit a nearby park, maybe even time to start to garden. My youngest daughter doesn’t care about having a week off after having months of remote schooling in 2020 and then half weeks this year. She’d much rather that school just returned to some normalcy in terms of schedule. What Are Your Spring Break Plans? Are you on the go safely with masks in hand? Hanging out at home, gardening and reading? Whatever you choose to do, the important thing is doing it together, right? Pre-pandemic our family spring vacation routine would be travelling to a ski hill or taking some epic road trip. While that is still not possible, I hope that soon we can get back to that kind of fun activity. Next year I am all about a spring ski trip again. Spring Writing Prompts for Early Language Arts Literacy

When I was a child I was all about early language arts and what they called reading and writing back then. So, I would have loved these early spring writing prompts. I devoured books and collected words and started stories often. Growing Kids Who Love Reading and Writing From the moment I was old enough to hold a crayon, I was always building stories. I didn’t necessarily need the writing prompts, or any prompts but if my teacher or my Mom had given me a pretty project sheet like this I would have been all over it. This spring I have a lot of fun free printable worksheets for you to share with your kids. Many of you are working from home remotely and kids might be home more still, so I know some of you are hunting down extra worksheets and activities to help keep them learning and busy. These are very open kid’s activity pages to encourage maximum creativity. End of Year Journal Activity Booklet

This End of Year Journal Activity booklet is pitch perfect for kids at this time of the year. It serves several purposes. An End of Year Journal can prompt kids to get writing and thinking about the past year. But, to be honest, I love it equally for the fact that a simple journaling activity can also make gratitude real. Gratitude Exercises Even in a year when there didn’t seem like there was much to be grateful for, something can always be found. I believe that and it’s something I am trying to convey to my kids and my readers regularly. I wrote about gratitude way back when at the start of the pandemic. Here’s what that looked like then, for me. Favourite Things in 2020 This easy activity can remind your kids that there are simple things to remember and treasure even during the pandemic. A favourite book, song or TV show. Maybe just a different food. In my home, this year, one of our favourite things to do has been baking. We have definitely done a whole lot of bread making and we’ve made a lot of bread machine recipes. (Check out this glazed apple bread recipe.) Our favourite small appliance still is the bread maker. Gather up a few supplies and print this out and give it to them to do on their own. As a child, this is the kind of thing that would have appealed to me. I loved writing and journalling and diaries too. All of the writing and reading and the language related activities were my favourite diversions. Look how that worked out.
