When Celebrities Reveal Infertility: Khloe Kardashian

I am not the world’s biggest fan of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. I have never really fully understood the appeal of the show, or the claim to fame for any of the members of the family. But this crossed my desk today and I took notice. Last night’s episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians was all about babies and fertility issues. Khloe Kardashian, seen here, married to Lamar Odom, visited a fertility clinic with her sister. Khloe and Lamar have had difficulty conceiving a child and have yet to receive an explanation for the infertility. Now, I am not privvy to how long they have been trying and I don’t need to know. But there were a few things that made me wonder here and gave me a cause to pause and read the whole article from US magazine about Khloe’s fertility concerns. Khloe is 28. Did you know that although many think fertility declines in the 30s and 40s it is actually at 28 when fertility begins to decline? This weekend’s episode will be continued next Sunday night. I wonder for my friends who are struggling and going through infertility issues and trying desperately to find money to pay for in-vitro fertilization (about $10,000 a cycle with medicines), does it help to have a celebrity talking about infertility? Does it increase awareness? Does it aggravate or detract from the real life struggles of people who cannot afford the lengthy interventions celebrities can? What do you think?
