I Didn’t Know I Was a Health Blogger until…

A funny thing happened on the way to my first rodeo – or my first trip to Blogher.
I was signing up last minute as I do, because life is busy, when all the schedules started coming and they were addressed to this health and fitness track blogger. Health Blogger? Fitness blogger?
Now, I’ve been blogging a good three years easily. And I can tell you categorically that I have not once thought of myself as a health blogger. I am, at times, all over the map here. I know it. I like a lot of things and I like to stretch myself as well. I talk adoption, special needs, products, brands, advocacy, education, travel, technology, food, parenting and anything else I feel like chatting about.  Lifestyle blogging they call that sometimes. Maybe that’s too much some days, I don’t know. I write what I am passionate about. I can be passionate about a lot of topics.
When I worked in newspaper and magazine publishing and freelance writing I enjoyed many topics. In fact that’s why I got into journalism to start out of university. Writing is my passion and will be for the rest of my life. But where writing takes me and what I learn is the real gift to myself.
Lately, I am writing almost all the time about my health, fitness, my daughter’s special needs and my Mom’s new diagnosis and eating and food and hey, wait a minute…
So I looked up the sessions and a funny thing happened…on the way to Blogher…before I even got there to the amazing and frightening city of New York, before the flight delays and all of that, I realized all those topics fall under the umbrella of Health.
So, even before I got there I had a revelation. Pretty amazing. That’s worth the price of admission and then some. That is why I come to conferences. Every now and then, it’s good to take stock and figure out how you are evolving. It’s healthy.
What do you think? Am I all over the place here or is that okay?
