Cooking With Kids – Ham Glaze
Well as it is Thursday here I am again cooking with my kids. We did a ton of cooking at Easter and little one helped like mad. She loves to be in the kitchen, blending, cracking, stirring and reading the recipe directions. This year I was the Easter hostess and we needed a little help, so I began hunting like mad and found a great glaze for my ham. Now it looks nasty when making it, but my daughter loved, loved, loved knowing she had made such a perfect part of the meal.
This glaze is not my own recipe. I found it on allrecipes.com I loved it for a change and it seemed to work for our guests too.
Start with 1/2 cup of brown sugar
3 cloves of garlic
1/2 cup mango chutney
2 teaspoons orange zest
1/8 cup of OJ
1/4 cup of dijon mustard.
Combine in a food processor. Just the right amount of sweetness and tang. There is some debate on that site as to whether it was too garlicky. I didn’t find that at all.
Zesting the orange. Fun. Also a great sensory task.

This sounds like a really good glaze for the ham. Might try it out next time if I remember. 🙂
