Do You Need a Twitter Account to Use Periscope?

What is Periscope?

Periscope is a cell phone app that lets you easily livestream videos. Since it is in real time, you can interact directly with your friends and viewers, who can leave comments. It is a fun app with a lot of potential. I have used live broadcasting while traveling and I enjoy playing around with it but frankly it’s still a novelty to me and not a part of my daily strategy. That doesn’t mean it won’t be soon. Scoping requires a bit of practice in order to feel comfortable live broadcasting.

How do you use Periscope?

Do you want to broadcast your adventures, trips around the world, cooking tips, or thoughts to your friends and viewers? Or would you rather watch other broadcasters’ videos? Or maybe a little of both? Deciding that will be a key factor to determining how you will use the app. Viewers can leave hearts to show their support or comments to keep in touch. The way you will use Periscope is up to you. Know that you can block inappropriate comments and viewers, just as you can in most other social media apps and channels. And you will need to get comfortable with that option because live broadcasting is sure to mean you will generate some trolls.

Do I need a Twitter account to use Periscope?

You no longer need to have a Twitter account in order to use Periscope. While it was once only available for Twitter users, now anyone with an iOS or Android phone can access the app. All you need is your phone number to make an account. This is good news for those who aren’t Twitter members.
