Adoption and Family
Parenting by adoption is bigger, louder, and often harder to start with. From the assessment and waiting process to the adoption probation period, it can seem endless and like it will never happen. Then you get the call and your life changes forever in a miraculous way. But what next? Sure there is often a honeymoon and parenting is a blessing no matter how you get there. It is a new adventure every single day. AND also adoption comes with numerous other ups and downs.
Find Your Supports Early and Stick With Them
Very often there's minimal support for adoptive parents and families after they leave the courthouse finalizing their adoptions. Consider this your supportive honest space where we share what's worked, what doesn't work, and all the challenges in between. Share your stories, learn and grow together.-

35 Valentine’s Day Gifts That Are Not Chocolate
This posts contains affiliate links as a service. I receive a small commission on purchases made via qualifying links. To gift or not to gift, that is the Valentine’s Day question. Basically if you are asking, then pretty much the answer is always get a Valentine’s gift, or even Valentine’s Day gifts. Now, it doesn’t necessarily have to be huge or expensive, but you should cover all bases and be sure that your loved one is not disappointed or upset if you ignore the day altogether. But chocolate and candy are so overdone. I mean honestly a box of chocolates, while yummy, doesn’t last and shows exactly zero creativity. So, what…

What’s My New Word of the Year?
Setting goals this year took a bit longer than usual. Admittedly it is now half way through January already, so I am late. But anyone who knows me personally knows time is something I strive to bend at will. LOL. Typically every year I do an exercise where I challenge myself to pick a word of the year or a phrase that guides my personal and business philosophy for the year ahead. This year, I honestly couldn’t think of one until about a week ago and then I was simply way too busy working on numerous jobs to actually write it down. Until now. Setting Goals For a few days I…

Do These Things Now If You Have a Child With Special Needs Starting School
Is your child with special needs starting school in September? Then you need to do a few things now. I wrote this a few years ago, but it’s still extremely relevant, especially as we start to prepare for a new school year. Right now is the time to register your child. If you have a child with special needs starting school in September then you need to run, not walk, to the school right now. Do not wait. It is vital that schools know who is coming and when. And if your child, or children, have special needs, even more important that they have a chance to plug in educational…

Holiday Flowers with Teleflora Make the Season Brighter
Holiday flowers make the season so much brighter. I love to add flowers to my home at any time of year, but when the holidays roll around, flowers are essential. There’s something about that pop of colour that chases away the winter blues. If I had my way and unlimited budget I’d have poinsettias and lilies and pine all over the house. The pretty blooms and foliage are a treat during the winter months. This is also why I love Teleflora Table campaign. I know how much holiday flowers brighten my holiday season, and Teleflora can help you brighten the holidays too. Holiday Flowers from Teleflora The Teleflora Table campaign is all about…

How Do You Budget When You Have Nothing Left to Spend?
Having nothing left to spend in the middle of the month way before a pay cheque comes in is a brutal spot to find yourself in, but it happens to many people. Listen, when we were living on one income with small children before I started my business Thrifty Mom Media Consulting there were many times we had zero money to spend, so I had to get creative. Living off of credit is a losing proposition that will dig you further into debt so you need to find a way to stay afloat without going bankrupt financially and spiritually. Believe me I know how brutally hard this is. Living a…

30 Amazing Family Board Game Gifts
Family Board Games are still some of my favourite family gifts any time of the year. My kids still enjoy a good game from time to time and so do we. It beats watching TV, Youtube or Netflix some nights, and is a lot more affordable than heading to the movie theatre, so why not give some as gifts for birthdays and other occasions? We have a closet full of family board games here. When visitors come over and younger children are in the mix this is often the first closet they go for. So, it works in our best interests often to keep numerous options for various ages on…
