Remember finding awesome deals and great coupon codes and thinking, “I am a shopping master!” These days, online shopping can be more of a hassle than anything else. With Giving Assistant, online shopping is back in all its glory. Giving Assistant – How It’s Bringing the Fun Back One of the most frustrating parts of online shopping is finding promo codes. The Most Meaningful Mothers Day Gifts #WorldVisionGifts
Mother’s Day is not a day I take lightly. I am a Mom because of a gift from someone brave and caring. Two different birth Moms gave us the gift of both of our girls. We are adoptive parents and might never have been parents without someone else’s sacrifice and brilliant gift. I am always mindful of that. My parenting experience started with a gift. The most precious gift of all. My own journey to parenthood very much reminds me of the power of the local and the global community. Each one of us depend ends on others for so many things. This year I am also very mindful of someone…

Five Things I Learned Travelling in Colombia with World Vision Canada #TMMWVC #TravelTuesday
Some stories rattle around in my head longer than others. Some stories touch your heart immediately but they take time to express. I have a few more of those beautiful meaningful experiences from my time travelling in Colombia late last year. I spent close to a week travelling in Colombia with World Vision Canada in September 2014. The experience was life changing and motivating and moving and so very big. I have already told many of the stories of the Colombian children, the workers and the places we visited, but in the last few weeks I have been travelling back to Colombia in my mind. Asomiflor still needs to be…

These are My Weapons Against Child Poverty #WorldVisionGifts #TMMWVC
There is a saying in martial arts that my kids repeat over and over each time they grade. My husband knows it too. I am paraphrasing a bit but it’s a little like this – I come to you with empty hands. If I should be forced to use them. These are my weapons: my empty hands. It’s the end of 2014 and so everyone is wrapping up their year with little red bows and packaging it away to start fresh on January 1st. There is beauty and peace in that. We are building our resolutions, hopes and plans. We are collectively hopeful on January 1st each year and it…

My Meaningful Christmas Gifts #WordlessWednesday With #WorldVisionGifts
This is my Wordless Wednesday for today. I hope some of you have read the posts over the last few months about meaningful Christmas gifts and the importance of choosing gifts that give back to children and families globally. I choose to support World Vision Canada in 2014, 2015 and for as long as I am able. I have seen so much good done with a simple gift from the World Vision holiday gift catalogue. I have shared many posts and tweets about this great charity. I believe wholeheartedly in the organization because I have seen the difference these meaningful Christmas gifts make to families living in poverty around the world.…

We Day Waterloo 2014 Highlights: Inspiring Change
Last week we attended our first ever We Day. We were two of the 7000 people attending We Day Waterloo 2014. There were 315 schools in attendance also, one of which came all the way from Nova Scotia. I took my oldest daughter Payton with me because I knew she really wanted to go. She is my helper girl and we often say that she is destined to be a teacher or a therapist. She has a big heart. The route to WE Day isn’t easy. You have to be a class, or a child, that gives back to your community and thinks about global citizenry as well. So you get to…

World Vision Canada Christmas Gifts – Party RSVP November 19 at 8 p.m. EST
Many of you who are regular readers here know that this September I travelled with World Vision Canada to Colombia. While I was there for the better part of a week I toured many of the area development programs where the work of volunteers and staff at World Vision Canada is changing lives. The experience was life altering and heartbreaking all at once. I saw children who had grown up with World Vision Canada sponsorship and become leaders in their communities. I recently wrote about Johan Espinosa who impressed me so because he has spent his life working with World Vision and has inspired others to do the same. It was an…

Johan’s Story: What Becomes of Sponsored Children in Colombia
Johan Espinosa has been linked to World Vision for most of his life. He was sponsored at the age of five and grew up to be sponsorship coordinator in Bucaramanga, Colombia where I visited recently with World Vision Canada. His journey from sponsored child to inspirational leader building futures for sponsored children in Colombia is nothing short of remarkable. His story is a beautiful illustration of what becomes of sponsored children in Colombia. One of Three Brothers Espinosa was one of three brothers. They lived with both parents and their father worked, but they were still barely getting by. When you are poor, you often live a life…
