Long Weekends – Ideas to Make Summer Fantastic

long weekends

Long weekends. Is there anything better? During the summer, long weekends are the end-all, be-all. The weather is nice, the family is together, and there are three glorious days to do whatever. But what whatever should you do? Here are some ideas to make long weekends fantastic.

Long Weekends, FTW!

Long weekends are perfect family time, but what can you do to make that family time memorable? There are tons of options for you and your clan to make the most of long weekends this summer, and in the months to come.

Backyard Camping

Weekend camping is fun, but camping on long weekends is great. There’s an entire extra day, so you get more time to actually do camping activities rather than just setting up the tents and making the fire pit. If you go camping in your backyard, you’ll have even more time.

Camping doesn’t necessarily mean packing up and driving into the woods. You can camp in your backyard and have a blast. Remember, it’s not where you go on your long weekend, it’s who you go with. So set up the tent in the back yard, keep yourself in S’Mores ingredients, and maybe watch a movie huddled around the tablet. Plus, camping in the backyard means access to a nice, comfy bathroom. That’s always nice.

Uber Movie Marathon

Long weekend coming up, but you’re just not feeling a road trip. Heck, you’re not even feeling leaving the house. Well, then. It’s time for a three day movie marathon. Think about it. How many movies has your family wanted to see but just never gotten around to? A long weekend is the perfect time!

Stock up on treats like frozen pizzas, ice cream, pop corn, gummies, and any other fun nom noms the family loves and spend three days in blissful television nirvana.

Hit the Movies

Speaking of movie marathons, why not make your three day weekend a big screen experience? Select three movies the family is interested in seeing, and hit the matinee every day. Seeing a movie together in the theatre has got all the feels – family togetherness, a big screen, rumbling speakers, and popcorn topped with greasy movie butter. Yay!

Make it Craft-tacular

There’s nothing more fun that doing crafts together as a family. If your family is crafty, make one of your long weekends a craft challenge. There’s nothing like a little friendly competition to bring a family together. So challenge each other to make the coolest craft each family member can think of by the end of the weekend. It’s a great way to bond, promote creativity, and get out of electronics for a bit.

Puzzles

Puzzles are a great option for family time over a long weekend. Depending on the difficulty, a puzzle can take the full weekend to complete. The entire family can go out and find one special puzzle you all love and then spend the weekend putting it together. It’s a wonderful way to spend time together. They even make a special coating you can put on the completed puzzle to hold it together for framing to commemorate your family’s accomplishment.

Long Weekends are Prime Family Time

So make the most of them. You can try any of these ideas or none of them. It’s up to you, and that’s the beauty of long weekends. They are exactly what you want them to be. Whatever your family is into, do it. Make those three days a memorable experience for the entire family!

Do you have any great tips for activities or adventures for long weekends? Let me know. I’d love to hear about them.

I want to try backyard camping with my kiddos. I think they’d have so much fun, plus we’ll never get to a real campground at least no time this summer so it would be so fun!

I’ve been keeping my children busy with a mix of friends, movies, museums and pools. I’m excited that this summer has not felt strained at all.

We love going to to hike on long weekends or even take the 4 wheeler out to ride. We love being outdoors so that is the first thing we think of for time off.

We always look forward to long weekends. This means movie nights, lots of games, baking and pizza nights for us. We haven’t tried backyard camping, I’m sure my kids will love it.
