Five Chronic Illness Lessons I Have Learned.

    January 19, 2021 /

Lately I have been thinking a lot about how having a childhood illness shaped me, as a person, as a teen and an adult. I’ve asked myself often what, if any chronic illness lessons, I got out of that experience. Some of you know I have Crohn’s disease, an inflammatory bowel disease, also now thought to be an autoimmune disease, without a known cause or cure. I was diagnosed at 14 after a period of months when pounds melted off my frame faster than you can even imagine. My abdomen hurt all of the time, as in so much cramping that I thought I would pass out. Sometimes I still…

Creative and Fun Sick Day Scavenger Hunt

    January 11, 2021 /

Well, here we sit in the middle of cold and flu season during a pandemic. Why not download this Sick Day Scavenger Hunt and keep it for those days when you need a little something low key to do at home. Colds Happen. Be Prepared That’s pretty much my Motto. This time of year you can try to avoid all of the germs and you definitely should. But, also be prepared. Kids get sick. Period. They are germ magnets. While I hope nobody I know gets anything more than a cold this year, I am sure there are a few of you home right now nursing sick little ones who…

19 Easy Things To Do To Keep Teens Busy Right Now

    March 21, 2020 /

There’s no denying this has been a tremendously hard week for all. One of the hardest in our history. We had to postpone our family ski trip and March break due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. It was recommended here in Ontario, Canada last week that all travel be stopped, so we followed the health unit and Government of Canada protocols. But, that has not been easy. We are all genuinely disappointed because we had an amazing ski trip to Vermont happening. My younger girl has FASD (fetal alcohol spectrum disorder) and she doesn’t cope with change well at all. So, her frustration leaked out at first in aggressive outbursts.…

Cold and Flu Season – Prevent Getting Sick with Cold-Q #ColdQtotheResQ

    November 2, 2016 /

Cold and flu season is going to be vile this year. How do I know that? Well, that’s simple. My younger daughter and I have been sick on and off since school started! What started as a cough with my daughter spread to me. Then one of us had bronchitis. After that the two of us got a cold. Actually, we got the flu, but we thought it was a cold. Yes, cold and flu season is here, and it has not been kind, already. That’s why I got excited when I heard about Cold-Q. Make Cold and Flu Season Easier with Cold-Q Cold and flu germs spread like wildfire through…

Juvenile Arthritis – What it Is and What it Does #health

    May 28, 2015 /

This is the ankle that started it all for us. One of our daughters has had a limp for months and we’ve taken her to the doctor several times. We’ve determined nothing is broken or sprained. So we went to the hospital and had tests run last month. Numerous X-Rays showed nothing broken at all. But she limps and it isn’t getting better. So we are now moving on to more tests. Juvenile arthritis is one diagnosis specialists are looking at. This month we return to see if high doses of anti-inflammatory medicine have made a difference. This is what I have learned while we wait. Juvenile Arthritis –…
