How many nights a week do you sit down together as a family to share dinner? 1? 2? 3? Between swimming lessons and my daughter’s acting rehearsals, my workouts, horseback riding, work and whew – martial arts too – it’s getting harder for our family to carve out dinner time together. My kids lead busy lives and we do too. We used to be so good at this sitting down together as a family when the kids were tiny, as babies, toddlers and preschoolers, we managed 4-5 nights a week. I was a stay at home mom and my husband…

I have a new obsession. These Marvel superhero toys inside specially marked packages of KinderCanada toys. I can’t stop playing with them. My kids, especially the self confessed tomboy kid, hung them all over the minivan, so I find myself playing when we are parked and playing when we are at home and flipping the toy’s heads off so they can do battle. That’s the power of Kindertoys _ somehow they make you feel like a kid again. I am a KinderMom again this year which means friends, family and neighbours will all reap the rewards once again as we…

Holidays are never so difficult as when you are missing something, or someone. This year will be our first year without my Mom at Thanksgiving. These were the photos we took last year when we were all together. Whole. Hindsight is 20/20 and I now know this was probably our happiest holiday ever. We were happy, chasing children up and down the halls of a retirement home where we all met for dinner. The kids were magnificently loud and messy and full of life. Work was good, life was good, rarely perfect, but also full. Mom was happy, loved, in…

Crayola Toothpaste? Well, that’s a kick in the pants. Why not have a bit of fun with something so tedious, right? GUM’s Squeeze-A-Color Crayola Toothpaste makes me want to be a kid again. That was my reaction this summer when I discovered Crayola had partnered with Gum to make Crayloa Squeeze-A-Color toothpaste. Squee! I was giddy and I felt like a child again. Had this kind of fun toothpaste been around when I was a child, I might not have needed so many dentist appointments over the years. Make Brushing Fun Again Every parent on the planet knows how difficult…

How cute are these two? One day this little dude who shall remain nameless, but is the son of one of my best friends, will be married to one of my daughters. I am certain of it. Plus how cute are these two? I took this picture at Western Fair one weekend recently.

Snapshots of my Blissdom experience 2013 Blissdom last year in 2012 Three years ago I attended my first ever Blissdom Canada conference. It was a leap of faith. I was a newbie. I had newbie nerves. I’d been writing for years at that point in mainstream media and had a lot of bylines that accumulated over the years. I had a small blog. It was a growing blog, but still something wasn’t quite yet clicking. Jennifer Reynolds from Canadian Family threw down a challenge during a writing and publishing workshop. Write about finding your bliss. I knew I’d do it,…

In case you haven’t been around here for awhile, let me catch you up. We are in the process of renovating, painting and decluttering. We are packing lots of boxes and trying to live a regular semblance of family life. We now have a storage space and we are transferring clutter (toys, books, photos etc.) to a storage locker. This entails a fair amount of lifting. So to recap: boxes, renovations, regular fitness routines and Oh yeah pain in my back, and neck, and shoulders. Lifting is a pain literally. Then I got this Deep Relief Heat Therapy for review.…

This is not my dream kitchen. It is my old kitchen. The one I cooked in for 13 years. The one I fed my babies in, the one that was childproofed and messed up, and raided, and cleaned – not often enough – perhaps, but hey life is busy. This is the kitchen where I dreamed of a business and then set it up, the one my girls crawled through and toddled through and ran through, where the old blue counters held the weight of their entire bodies as we perched to gaze into the yard at wild turkeys, where…

Remember that old comedy skit: it’s better to look good than to feel good. Well, that’s me a lot of days. I mean don’t get me wrong I work very hard to stay fit and feel good. I try to eat well and exercise and so forth. But even when I feel under the weather I try to look good. There’s something about washing your face and dressing up and getting a good haircut, or blow out that makes every thing better. It build confidence. Not unlike Scunci Hair products. I am in fact a huge fan of Scunci. We…

Welcome to the Boost Your Biz, HP Envy Giveaway. Organized by Mom Powered Media If there’s one thing I love more than gadgets, it would have to be touch screen gadgets. This is the computer of my dreams that I was hunting for madly one year ago. I can’t get enough of touch screen technology. It is so simple and should be the standard. I did not buy this one. For business purposes I chose a Macbook. I love my Macbook and I adore Mac technology. But Macbooks are not yet touch screen and that’s the one thing missing for…
