Canadian Infertility Awareness Week is upon us again and infertility advocates have accomplished a great deal this year. Funding is in place and many Ontario infertility patients are now accessing their funded round of IVF treatment. That’s a huge success for Ontario patients and advocates and frankly it saves money and helps to create healthier families. Over 50 different clinics across the province now offer government funded fertility treatments. We are already seeing the first pregnancies as a result of the Ontario IVF (in vitro fertilization) funding program. Conceivable Dreams patient group thought it would be worthwhile this year to take a look at what…

I recently got my hands on an Oreck Venture Bagged Canister Vacuum, and I’m enjoying giving it a whirl. I’ve already vacuumed my office a few times, and the house has had a good once over, as well. My Oreck Venture is getting a workout, and my home is getting cleaner which is increasingly important as spring brings allergens and dust in the door. Oreck Venture – Powerful and Practical When I got this vacuum, I was eager to start using it, but I wasn’t eager to put it together. I’m not a “some assembly required” kind of girl. BUT I put my…

The Viva Collection Digital Airfryer from Philips is taking frying to a new level. With this healthy alternative to traditional frying, my family can enjoy the crispy deliciousness of fried food without all the health concerns that go with all the oil associated with frying. Viva Collection Digital Airfryer – Healthy and Tasty Here’s how air fryers work. Having a child with special needs impacts family life in many ways. There can be extra financial and emotional stress. A Canadian study called PALS notes clearly that the mother in a family with a child who has a disability most often is required to adjust her work schedule to care for the special needs child. Finances and health are impacted, and so is marriage. But what about the siblings in families with special needs on deck? There are many rewards to parenting children with special needs, but there are also undeniable challenges, emotionally, financially and physically. Where there are other children in…

In Canada 1 in 6 experience fertility issues or challenges. I was one of those people years ago before we adopted our girls from London area Children’s Aid Society. I have talked about that often here. Many of my close friends have also struggled with infertility. When you are trying to get pregnant and nothing seems to be working there is nothing more frustrating. Infertility can be exhausting – financially, emotionally and physically. What is supposed to be an exciting and happy time can become a source of stress and pressure for those who experience challenges along the way. Canadian Infertility Awareness…

I never have enough workout clothes. I love my yoga pants, but when you get a sweat happening in a crazy cardio fitness class, full length pants are way too much. I don’t want to feel like I’m going to pass out because I wear too much clothing to the gym and frankly I don’t want to worry about workout clothes when I am in the middle of a new fitness class, or when I am pushing my limits. I like a variety of options in workout clothes. That’s why I am enjoying Tasc Performance Wear right now. TASC Performance…

Maybe your child has curly hair, or is slightly unique in some other tiny way. Small genetic blessings that somehow will turn to a source of pride. Over time. Maybe you think that parenting is hard, but your hard is a moment. Your hard is a glass of wine, some retail therapy, girl’s night out, and then you move on. Your hard breaks. There’s nothing heartbreakingly extraordinary that impacts the way your child moves throughout their Mondays, or Fridays – the way they approach their school day, year to year. Just a kid, potentially a great kid, maybe even an A student, going…

How often do you think about water? Do you wake up wondering where it will come from today? Do you worry about leaving your family to walk for miles to collect a bucket of water for all of you to use? Does your heart hurt thinking that your child will never be able to attend school if he or she has to walk to collect water for your family? Do you consider whether you will have enough water to cook dinner, wash hands, clean clothing, bathe? I didn’t think so. I rarely thought about water here, until World Vision Canada…
