Health
Mental and physical health are both important components to wellness and whole body health. Better health is a goal to work towards over the course of a lifetime. This section of Thrifty Mommas Tips explores issues such as child poverty, infertility and disability. With a heavy focus on women's and children's health issues, you will find content about rare eye disease, infertility and invisible brain injuries. Health care advocacy is also discussed in this section. Learn how to advocate effectively for your child or parent within the health care and education systems. Caregiving is exhausting and rewarding work. I have several tools for supporting your child at camp, home, school and in after school activities. There's nothing simple about achieving or maintaining wellness. But knowledge is the key to making smart choices. Knowledge aids in building better health for you and your family. As a child diagnosed with the inflammatory bowel disorder, Crohn's disease, I have over 30 years of experience navigating systems and experts. All of that experience comes into play here as I share how I have learned to live with a chronic illness and chronic pain. In this health section of Thrifty Mommas Tips, there is heavy concentration of topics like anxiety disorder, Crohn's disease, infertility, in vitro fertilization and FASD (fetal alcohol spectrum disorder). Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder also crops up from time to time. Use this section to increase your knowledge and arm yourself with tools to feel better and live with intention.

What’s Your Word of the Year for 2018?
What’s your word of the year? Every year for the last 6 years in a row I have chosen a word or phrase to guide my personal and professional attitude for the year. This has often been a really positive proactive experience for me. The year I chose Grow, I grew. The year I chose productivity I was productive. And so on. My word of the year is my philosophy or vision. I was astonished actually when I went back through my files this week and discovered I have been doing this for longer than I thought. In fact, I have chosen to do this since 2012. My first ever…

Holiday snacking is something everyone does. I don’t know about you, but I am stupid busy right now which means my time to prepare nutritious meals and snacks has vanished entirely. The good news though is that healthy snacking doesn’t have to be hard. I’ve found a snack that is perfect for travel, and for busy days running around during the holiday season. Slammers are my go to favourite right now. They are marketed for kids and they are great for in school lunches. But they are also amazing for road trips and holiday travel. Take Care of Yourself, So You Can Take Care of Others
From the moment they arrive, your kids become your number-one priority. We all know it, and there’s nothing wrong with that — but it sometimes causes you to neglect yourself. Here’s the thing: Taking a break and treating yourself is absolutely necessary for a healthy body and mind. Moms need to remember to take care of themselves — and yes, sometimes even spoil themselves — so they can properly take care of their children. BOTOX COSMETIC® treatments here in London, Ontario (or another treatment at the medical spa) are sometimes all the R&R you need to look and feel rejuvenated. And by the way, you deserve it. Why Your Skin…

Gut health – Improving Your Overall Health at the Source #RenewLife #ad
October was a month of travel for me. I was away more than I was home. Which was awesome, but all that travel meant I missed my workouts and while I ate well, I also ate more than usual. Don’t even get me started on all the Irish Coffee and great wine, whiskey and beer in Ireland. That’s why I decided to take the Renew Life 30-day challenge promoting gut health. Basically that meant increasing my exercise and my water intake and adding probiotics to the mix again. Why probiotics? Well here’s what I have found. Saturday starts with a good workout always then groceries and today setting up new…

Embracing Caregivers #CareforaCarer
Are you a caregiver for someone with unique needs or health care challenges? I see you. I know you miss many social events, or family gatherings. Perhaps you stopped work entirely to care for someone you love. Or you switched to part time, freelance or contract. Chances are good you have missed your own doctor’s and dentist’s appointments. Maybe, you woke up so bone weary one morning you drove down the street without your glasses. Maybe you forgot to take your own medicine. How do I know any of this? Been there, done that. For years my life has been health care triage. Juggling an overwhelming number of specialist’s appointments,…
