Disappointment #WordlessWednesday #specialneeds
This is disappointment. I am not a great photographer, but every so often a shot works out. Happy with this one even though it was a private moment when my daughter was unable to do something she had her heart set on doing. She pushed it right to the limit and was all the way up the ladder towering several feet off the ground when she looked down and could not go through with the zip lining. Her sister went and her Dad went. She was mad at herself. Wordless Wednesday is a photography meme.

Five Things NOT to Say When a Friend is Grieving
GRIEVING Four months ago my mother passed away unexpectedly fast. Hearts broken, we moved through our days barely breathing at times, bursting into tears at the cemetery as we chose our mother’s plot, falling asleep spent. The words “Beloved Mother” on a spray of roses and every childhood memory unravelled at my feet. Sobbing, we set foot inside a flower shop to buy the last flowers we might ever gift her with and hope the florist weighs how much we loved her, translates it into colours. In the last few weeks, tears have come and gone, sometimes with clear triggers visible like signposts, and other times dropping from the clear…

Dempster’s Thins and Sandwich Personality #giveaway.
What makes a sandwich great? In a word? Personality. Everyone likes it just a little bit different. Take my family for instance. Four of us and all four different distinct personalities, so not so surprising that we like our sandwiches to be unique. I like mine messy. With cheese. Melted. And every so often I like it spicy. But I don’t care for a massive amount of calories and I am no fan of thick bread. Know what I mean? I like my bread thin. So, when I heard about Dempster’s Thins I knew I had to try them. Dempster’s Thins have 50 % less calories than Dempster’s leading whole…

Disney Super Buddies Review
My kids are big fans of the Buddies series of movies from Disney and we are rarely disappointed when a new release arrives in the mail for review. So, the arrival of Disney Super Buddies this past week was met with squeals of joy from the girls. We sat down last Saturday night and had family movie night on the long weekend. Family movie night is always a great chance to connect and cuddle and occasionally shut down all the work projects I have on the go. Disney Buddies are the cutest little dogs. Santa Buddies, Snow Buddies and Space Buddies were all hits here. Same for Spooky Buddies and…

ChromaGen Life-Changing Lenses for Reading Disabilities #specialneeds #health
Imagine trying to read when words move from left to right, up and down. Imagine trying to sit in class and pay attention to your textbook when words are blurry, out of focus, floating up or down. Maybe your child sees double words, double sentences and every line has to be read and re-read to make sense. These are just a few of the reading difficulties that will plague students returning to school this month. Up to 30 % of the student population faces reading difficulties like these described above. Symptoms of reading disabilities can be physical causing headaches, nausea, fatigue, loss of concentration and even avoidance of reading all together. …

Back to School Means Back to Your Regularly Scheduled Workout Brought to You by Vega Sport #Review
August was a little crazy – and frankly the tiniest bit lazy here too. Oh work was plentiful and my kids were very busy. But working out slid by the wayside, unless you call chasing my brother’s cute kids around the beach in Southampton a work out. Anyways, this morning back to school for this mom meant back to my regularly scheduled workout. Because 40, my friends, is not kind to your butt, nor is blogging for that matter, and forget metabolism. Once you hit 40 your metabolism begins a slow geriatric crawl up hill. Every pound you gain seems three times harder to work off. So back to the…

Bittersweet August Algebra #specialneeds
August is the strangest month if you parent a child with special needs. Why is that? Patience and I will tell you. August is day camps, if you are lucky, and if you have found a camp that can accommodate a child with whatever needs your child might have. It is cottage and beach and sand and water and full on sensory experiences pretty much everywhere. Swimming, I am told, by a very clever friend of mine is akin to the body receiving a full head to toe hug. The ultimate sensory immersion experience. My girl has some special needs, not the least of which is the sensory processing disorder,…

Kellogg’s New Products and a #Giveaway
Kellogg’s Vector chewy protein bars are the tastiest snack bars I’ve ever eaten. If you love peanuts and have no allergies these new bars from Kellogg’s are absolutely delicious. With 11 grams of protein in each bar and 5 grams of fibre I happily shared these with my kids. Now, obviously these cannot be taken to schools with children who have nut allergies. But at home here or on a family outing these are a great little snack option. I wouldn’t want the kids eating too many of them because they have 170 calories per bar. But to me this healthy option tasted like Reese’s Peanut Butter cups. I would…
