There are so many reasons to support funding for in vitro fertilization in every province of Canada. I outlined my five reasons why I personally think public funding makes sense for Alberta in a post on my blog before. But it gets even simpler when you pare it right down. I am an advocate. I have been for a long time. More years than I care to share. This year I will again drop everything and race off to Toronto when I am asked to speak up on behalf of adoptive families at public pre-budget hearings. I have learned a…

I intended to order business Christmas cards last year, but never got around to it. Then this past month Pear Tree Greetings approached me and asked if I’d take a look at their designs. They offered a free credit, no strings attached. So I spent some time playing around at Pear Tree Greetings and I found great variety, innovative designs, some teacher stationery gifts I liked for the holidays and some lovely Christmas cards. Chalk Board Teacher stationery is perfect for my daughter’s grade seven teacher. Who doesn’t adore pretty paper, or cards? I love the many options for baby…

November is one of my favourite advocacy months here because it’s National Adoption Awareness Month. That means multiple opportunities to remind people there are 7, 500 kids available for adoption in Ontario right now. That’s down since the Liberal government implemented a few changes to legislation. I’ve been advocating for adoption and child welfare issues for a decade now and I am all too aware that a few short years ago, the number of children waiting for permanent homes was closer to 10,000 kids. That’s progress. But, even one child is far too many. This is my Wordless Wednesday post…

When my kids were small they adored Max & Ruby on Nickelodeon. My girls still enjoy seeing live entertainment and Centennial Hall, London, has often been a space where we built happy family memories. If you ask me Centennial Hall is the perfect size for events that are somewhat intimate, welcoming, warm and family friendly. Our last show might have been The Backyardigans there I think. Over the past decade there have been many great Koba Entertainment productions witnessed and experienced by our family. There’s something about these entertaining productions that makes kids of us all. Max & Ruby,…

Looking for a top notch Christmas gift for the gadget guy or girl in your world? Sennheiser Communications VoiceMax 3 in 1 will fit the bill. Voicemax was tested out here for a brief period of time and I was also given one of these to share with my readers in time for the holidays. I loved the ease with which this pairs with your gadgets in car. The sound is crisp and best yet, the dual microphone technology filters out extraneous sound. The dual microphones work together so background noise fades away. The Sennheiser Communications Voicemax 3 in 1…

As some of the readers here already know, we are getting ready to move. The recommendation way back in September was to paint the hall. So husband removed the wallpaper and then we hired a painter to come in and freshen the house up. The painting is almost done. We still need trim work. Now the tricky part – keeping it free of marks and kid’s fingerprints until we sell it.

This All About Me Special Needs Book is one of my favourite tools for my daughter. I’ve had one for Ainsley for several years now and it is always well received by teachers, coaches and others who work with her regularly. These All About Me Special Needs Booklets work well when your child is young and unable to tell people what he or she needs. We used them often for Ainsley, especially at camp. The idea is that you can use them as a tool for helpers, teachers or support staff when dealing with a child who has medical needs…

This week has been all about pants. Metaphorically, and literally too. See, I think the week took a turn for the worst when I couldn’t find my pants. My pants have gone missing. Decluttering is well under way and we might have been a bit aggressive packing. My jeans, my winter wardrobe largely packed away. My big girl business-y clothing with pants. I have chosen this experience, eyes wide open. Moving house is not easy, under the best of circumstances. Yesterday, I spent a whole morning really crunching numbers with a bank I will not name. No problem. I have no…

Everyone on the planet has read of nutritional benefits of Protein by now. Now Kellogg’s Special K has a vanilla version of their cereal with Protein. In fact it’s the bee’s knees for taste_ So why do you need cereal with protein in it? Well, protein helps you stay full longer. A survey recently done by Angus Reid Forum indicated 94 % of women knew eating protein in the morning helps satisfy hunder. However, nearly one in three said they thought they didn’t get enough of this essential nutrient. I received some sample products from the Special K Willpower Kit…

This I See Me Books Giveaway contains affiliate links as a service to readers. November is National Adoption Month, so I wanted to feature some adoption friendly merchants and brands here. Look for more this coming month. I found I See Me quite by happenstance. National Adoption Month and Merchandise I See Me has an incredible array of personalized products that you can order for your child. That’s pretty fun and unique, but what really got me excited was the Adoption section on their web site. It’s not overtly specific to adoption only. But it is applicable to adoptive families,…
