My Fitness and Wellness Journey Update is as much a progress check for me as it is for my readers too. So stick with me and I promise we can do this together. Okay? Here we are three weeks into my newly revamped fitness routine for 2014 and I thought it was time for an update. A progress check. My Fitness and Wellness Journey After 35!! First a bit of background. I have been working hard on getting fit since Ainsley was very small. I have always been sports averse. As in, I was the kid in grade school who…

Are you 1 in 6 Experiencing Infertility? Are you one in six? Did you even know that one in six people of reproductive age struggles with infertility? In Alberta that means too many people will remain childless. Too many will spend thousands of dollars on infertility treatment trying to get pregnant. Too many will be told they need in vitro fertilization if they hope to conceive. IVF and Success In vitro fertilization is one of the most effective types of assisted reproductive technology. IVF is a treatment by which the sperm fertilizes the egg in a lab dish. The resulting…

I haven’t itched all week. Why should you care? Well, if you are like me, you either have some experience with mild eczema, or you have a family member with that persistent itchy skin that won’t seem to go away. Did you know 20 % of the population will experience eczema? Did you know there are several different types of this skin condition which can be red scaly patches on your skin that end up cracking, rashing, or even oozing liquid? One common type is cradle cap. Another is contact dermatitis, which is often brought on by excessive handwashing. But…

I am not going to say I don’t do this often. But I am going to ask for your help. I advocate here often for issues that are close to my heart: senior’s health, Alzheimer’s research, adoption, child welfare and infertility. WEGO Health I blog often about health and I champion the causes that mean a lot to me because behind every single one of these issues are real live people struggling with health issues. This month I was nominated for a Wego Health Activist Award in the category of Advocating for Another. Please take a moment to endorse me…

Last year, I took a word as my mantra for the year. My goal. My defining philosophy. Today I am spending some time taking a recap of that year in fitness. And I am disappointed. My goal was health and healthy living. I tried hard. Until my Mom got sick and passed away unexpectedly and the whole family came off the rails for a period of time. Working out seemed a bit pointless and the process of planning a funeral kind of felt like life was trying to kick me in the head after declaring a goal of health and…

Funny thing, but after forty, your skin care needs change drastically. Women’s skin care products like Philosophy – Miracle Worker Miraculous Anti-Aging Moisturizer 56g/2oz are formulated to boost skin that is showing signs of aging and wear and tear. I lusted after, but had never used this product until I attended Blissdom Canada in the fall in Mississauga. Philosophy was one of the sponsors at the blogging event and, as such, they were handing out samples and chatting up bloggers in their restful lounge. After a skin care consultation, it was determined I needed this line: Miracle Worker. I tried…

This is Mallorie’s story. I am leaving it in her words because it is her story of infertility and it deserves to be heard. She and her husband only wanted a chance to conceive. Unfortunately this Christmas, this Arnprior, Ontario couple is still waiting to become parents and hoping for the chance to conceive. Waiting for Health Care Treatment The health care treatment that has been recommended to them is in vitro fertilization with ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection). In Ontario there is no OHIP coverage for in vitro fertilization or ICSI. If this couple lived in…

My teeth are my nemesis. I have never been happy with my teeth. First, as a tween I felt I had buck teeth. (I didn’t) Then I felt my teeth weren’t straight enough. Then I got braces and that fixed that problem. But my teeth have never been super strong, or white enough or just perfectly lovely as some smiles are prone to be. I have more cavities than I’d like despite brushing and flossing regularly but my enamel is something that for whatever reason is just not strong enough. My health issues have been well documented here. I am…
