What a treat for my family to be able to see Toopy and Binoo for the first time ever live on stage. We have been big fans of this sweet and imaginative preschool show on Treehouse for many years. While my kids are no longer preschoolers, they love a live show, so we couldn’t resist this one. Sunday afternoon at Centennial Hall, Toopy and his silent playmate Binoo had the toddlers and preschoolers dancing in the aisles as they traveled through imaginary worlds from the comfort of their couch. There’s nothing quite like the magic of live theatre reflected on…

Weighing in on Weight at School has been one of the most talked about posts I’ve ever written. For those of you who don’t know or didn’t read it, my child came home last week very upset about having her weight taken at school. It made her self conscious, she said. It was a reflections activity that made me extremely angry and inflamed a lot of my readers. Tons of you tweeted me over the weekend and your comments and support have been amazing. Some of you recalled being chubby as children, having the very same weighing at school and how…

These are my kids at the start of the week. All happy to go back to school and confident and such. Aren’t they cute? By day four of week one, my little one, ironically a girl with special needs is still tickety boo and thrilled with school. And my overachiever grade five rockstar Original Kid, fluent in two languages and pretty damn great all around, well she’s asking to be homeschooled. Again. This, for the record, is how much of last year went. Bully girls and bullshit. Anxiety. Stomach aches. Anyways, so much was plugged in at the end of…

Happy Back to School! Just thought I’d say it now because in the morning I will be too busy and too frazzled to chat. Seven a.m. and alarm clocks. Oh My! Here’s hoping I will be out of my pyjamas in time for dropoff. Tonight I am waxing nostalgic for a moment. This is a picture of my youngest child – who tomorrow enters grade two. My oldest girl will head off to grade five. That’s freaking me out a bit, but by now we’ve done this enough times to know that it will be a wee bit sad and we’ll also…

Hi there and Happy Monday Mingle. I did this one on the fly today and couldn’t recall question 2. So here is question two in print. Q2. Where do you go to relax or have peace and quiet.? I used to go the bathroom, but my kids often bust in or slip notes through the door or holler loudly on other side of door, so no escape there. Once in awhile I now use the YMCA as my quiet place. Workout time equals quiet time. So if you see me at the YMCA back away slowly.

In a last pass through town Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff hit a key London riding Friday night trailing big name Liberals in his wake. Flanked by Glen Pearson, MP for London-North-Centre (my riding) and Ontario Liberal Health Minister MPP Deb Matthews (also my riding), Michael Ignatieff was there to throw his support behind London-West candidate Doug Ferguson in a key riding that could easily see a red victory on Monday night. “Glen is getting lonely. He needs some support,” said Ignatieff. NDP Peter Ferguson also running in that riding is much less well known than Doug. The riding of London-West was for…
