A cute Canadian company is making safety fun for kids of all ages. A couple of weeks ago this adorable beaver helmet cover arrived in the mail…from Tail-Wags Helmet Covers. (see bottom for exclusive discount for thriftymommastips readers – Thrifty is coupon code) How cute and Canadian is this? My daughter got to try out the child-sized Patriotic Beaver, which she loves. At six, it’s not uncommon for my child to argue about wearing her helmet, which is part of the reason I love having this product available. It’s a fun way to promote safety and she doesn’t argue about wearing this dressup helmet. I wish we’d had it sooner. The adorable Canadian-made helmet covers are good for a variety of uses. They can be stretched over bike, skate, skateboard, ski and snowboard helmets. Perfect for over top of equestrian helmets too, which we may be able to test out later this week at my daughter’s therapeutic riding lesson. The helmet covers come in so many styles it’s almost impossible to choose. There is a princess helmet cover, a goldfish, a shark, a skull, a dinosaur, a variety of animals, and a ladybug – which we still might order as it is one of our favourite bugs. There are grownup helmet covers too – for the child in all of us. A guy’s camouflage helmet cover is stylin’ for men or young men and the pretty pink camo Tail Wags helmet cover is darling (my personal girly favourite.) You can’t miss the bridal veil style helmet cover. Unique and pretty too. These really clever helmet covers have been featured in many media campaigns already and were once on Breakfast Television. As well, Tail Wags have received numerous kudos from on line organizations and parenting groups. Tail Wags has the stamp of approval from the CPSA and has won IParenting Award for Hot products and the Creative Child Magazine Creative Toy Awards 2009.  Totally buzz worthy. Lightweight materials like lycra are used for some designs. Others are made from polar fleece and microfleece. For more information, or to order check out Karyn Climans Facebook site for Tail Wags Helmet Covers. http://www.tail-wags.com/

The fleece helmet covers run $40.00 Canadian and the lycra are $45.00. The special bridal design is $60.00 available now in time for wedding season. How great and memorable would a cycling theme wedding be?
Thriftymommastips rating is $$$$ out of $$$$$. I loved the cute designs and the variety. Also adore that they are Canadian-made. A tiny bit expensive, but weigh that against the fact that your child will happily put the cute character design helmet on his or her head, making safety simple. Also these helmet covers make cyclists and athletes of all sorts more visible. Get one for a young cycylist age 3 or 5 and there’s no reason it wouldn’t last several years. They are very good quality, good materials and clearly stitched well.  Minimal packaging involved, so not wasteful and also because the helmet covers are well constructed they won’t be sitting in a landfill as so many cheaply made children’s products do. Available on line and also at a variety of stores and venues. In London, they can be purchased from Source For Sports and The Toronto Zoo also has some critter helmet covers. In Mississauga available at the Safety Superstore
