- Garlic, Cinnamon, and Cayenne Pepper: Mix all ingredients in equal parts and sprinkle around the base of your home.
- Vinegar and Herb Mixture: Mix equal parts white vinegar and water then add a mixture of any or all of mint, lavender, catnip, sage, and thyme. Let steep overnight.
- Vinegar and Essential Oils: Mix equal parts water and vinegar, then add mint, tea tree, spearmint, lavender, lemon, lemongrass, clove, citronella, or eucalyptus oils.
- Vodka and Essential Oils: Fill a small spray bottle with cheap vodka and add 20 drops of any of the essential oils I mention in the vinegar mixture.
- Plant Insect Repelling Plants: Citronella grass, catnip, lavender, basil, rosemary, and thyme are all wonderful for home pest control. These plants are natural insect repellents, so use them liberally in your landscaping around your home.

- Barriers: Use green kitchen pads or copper scouring pads to seal up any holes in your home’s interior where mice may be coming in. While mice can chew through wood and insulation, they find the scouring pads uncomfortable. Patch exterior holes and caulk exterior crevices
- Be Tidy: Take out your trash often, and avoid leaving food on counters for an extended period of time. Also, vacuum your kitchen floors regularly to reduce the instance of food particles. Mice need warmth and food. If they don’t have one of those, they’ll be less likely to move in.
- Peppermint Oil: Mice are nocturnal, and they rely heavily on their sense of smell. Placing a cotton ball soaked with a drop or two of peppermint oil next to likely mouse trails and openings will deter them. The smell is simply too intense.
- Used Kitty Litter: This one is a gross but effective tool in home pest control. Place small tubs of used kitty litter around your home, especially in areas where mice may be entering. The smell of the cat urine will keep the mice away.
- Snake Feces: Here’s another gross one. If you have a pet store nearby, inquire about taking their snake feces. Snakes are the natural predator of mice, so using snake feces is an excellent home pest control solution.
