Heavy Periods are More than Just Inconvenient

    June 22, 2018 /

Disclosure: I have partnered with YMC and Hologic and have received compensation for this post. All opinions are my own.  Heavy periods are more than just an inconvenience that some women suffer with. I had heavy periods for much of my life. My mom had them. And one of my daughters seems to be heading there as well. Of course, there are the concessions you learn to make when your period comes. You don’t wear white, you make peace with the fact that you might have to dash to the bathroom at any moment. You NEVER wear your favorite pants, skirts, or dresses if you suspect your period is about…

New Playtex® Sport® Compact Tampons – Discreet Options for Girls on the Go

    August 21, 2017 /

I am a spokesperson for Playtex Sport and as such I have been compensated. This is my experience and it is truthful.  WHEW! I am home for a few days. This summer has been crammed with travel, road trips, camping and camps. My teens have lucked out being able to go camping, hiking, canoeing and visiting their cousins. They’re still active in martial arts and swimming in July and August. BUT, travel and camp, has taken a big role for us this season. My girls are 13 and 16. Together we travel often, because that’s a major part of my blog and business here. They need to be ready to run or pack at…

Your Period and How Travel Affects It #travel

    November 1, 2016 /

Your period is a normal function of your body. How your reproductive system is functioning can be an indicator of a bigger health issue. So it’s natural to be concerned if your very regular cycle is sometimes thrown into chaotic late, or abnormal heavy or even extreme light flow. Of course the first thing you wonder if your cycle changes or a period ceases to happen, is whether you are pregnant. But you might also start wondering if you have an illness. The truth is that if your period is late or you missed it all together while traveling, it’s probably JUST the traveling. Your Period and Travel There are lots of different ways…

Times have changed. Thank heavens for progress. When I was a teen I remember waiting endlessly for my period to start as if it were some great mystical force of nature that would transform me into someone grownup and sophisticated. And then it happened and my period was well, less than magical. It was also sometimes unpredictable and it was often heavier than I anticipated. It sometimes led to some near disasters. Hacks of any sort, period or otherwise, were not on my radar back then. I became the master of my own limited repertoire of period tricks. The jacket waist wrap. You know that thing you have to suddenly do…

Play ON with Playtex Sport Combo Packs – Preparing Your daughter for Her Period #PlayOnContest #PlayOnCa

    May 14, 2015 /

At our house the activity rarely stops. I have sporty girls. This week my youngest will compete at a track and field meet, swim at swimming lessons, ride her horse at Sari therapy riding program, mentor little ninjas at martial arts and then she will spar, and do her own martial arts lessons. And she will run her little heart out playing with kids in our neighbourhood. And that’s just my one daughter, 11. My older daughter, 13, does most of that, with exception of the therapeutic horseback riding and she acts and sings and dances with a local theatre troupe. My girls and I have been having period conversations…

Helping Your Daughter Prepare for her Period

    June 17, 2014 /

If you are the parent of a daughter over the age of 9 then you need to be having some period conversations regularly so she knows what to expect. Now there’s a product that can help facilitate the talk, and prepare your daughter for menstruation.     If you are the parent of a tween girl, chances are good you know this familiar scene. One minute she’s the sweet little girl you know and love and the next minute she’s consumed by mood swings, dramatic shrieks and slamming doors. It’s enough to make your head spin. I’ve come to view these tempestuous mood swings as nature’s warning signs on the path of growing…

How I Started and Continue the Period Talk With My Daughter

    April 4, 2014 /

How we tackle tough topics in my family is something I often talk about here. Period talk is no different. It’s just part of being a parent. Periods are as natural as showering, eating and sleeping here. So why shy away from period talk? Starting and continuing the period conversation is an important part of parenting and a vital part of development for young girls too.     This post is part of the YummyMummyClub.ca and Always Tampax sponsored program. I received compensation as a thank you for my participation. This post reflects my personal opinion about the information provided by the sponsors. Do you remember the book Are you There…
