Emergency Preparedness – What’s in Your Emergency Kit?

    November 23, 2018 /

This post is sponsored which means I received product or compensation. Emergency preparedness is something every family should give some thought to periodically. To be honest I didn’t really ever worry much about being prepared for natural disasters or weather incidents until recently. The tornado we had in Ottawa this year really hit home for me. As I watched and worried about several good friends in the Ottawa region, I realized my family isn’t prepared enough for emergencies in general. That got me thinking about preparing an emergency kit and supplies…

Buying Snow Tires – What You Need to Know

    January 15, 2018 /

Buying snow tires is something I have debated and put off for a couple of winter seasons now. Last year I got new all-season tires in the spring and assumed they’d get me through the winter. It wasn’t a super snowy year, but there were a few challenging winter road trips, especially on our annual trip to Vermont. This year with all the snow in the forecast, and the number of ski road trips we take, I knew I needed them so I started shopping months ago. I had so many questions initially. Are they worth the money? What kind should I buy? Which snow tires are best with my…

Let It Snow – Baffin Boots Has You Covered

    December 1, 2015 /

If there’s one predictable thing about the winter in Canada, it’s that there will be snow. It might not be a white Christmas. In fact I can count on my one hand the number of times in the last decade that we have had a white Christmas. But by February when the snow is flying and you start to wonder if it will ever let up, you better have a reliable pair of Baffin Boots on hand. In fact here’s my little public service message to you. Go ahead and buy two pairs of boots this year for each of your kids. Go on. Trust me. I guarantee one of your kids…

    Wordless Wednesday Winter Wonderland

    November 25, 2014 /

Winter was here  last week and it was quite beautiful despite the big snowfall. The kids welcomed the snowy weather, as kids do, and they built snowmen and snow serpents and they even tobogganed on the weekend. My morning walks were freezing, but nonetheless gorgeous. All the neighbourhood dogs were out in their snappy little sweaters. I snapped this picture just down the street from us and it reminded me of those old fashioned Currier and Ives pictures my Mom used to love so much. I don’t mind the snow when it creates a pretty sort of landscape that has a winter wonderland feel. The snow has since been washed…
