This post was written by one of the members of Conceivable Dreams. I am community manager for the group. By Ashley Bulley They say it takes an entire community to raise a family; in our case it took an entire community to afford one. My husband Adrian Arbos and I were married young. We started trying to conceive when I was 23. We’d been married for five years and we were ready to start a family. But, we couldn’t. We tried. We did all the tests to determine why we were infertile and eventually we discovered that a surgery my husband…

This Family Day it’s important for all Albertans to remember not everyone has family to share special days, or events with. In Alberta, as in many other provinces of Canada, 1 in 6 people struggle with infertility. For them, Family Day can be a painful reminder that something important is missing. How to Advocate Effectively This Family Day Generations of Hope, the Alberta infertility patient advocacy group, is urging all Alberta infertility patients and supporters to call their MLAs, write their MLAs and most importantly get in to see their MLA in person to share their experiences and remind them…

Have you discovered the Zoku yet? We love ours and use it a lot actually. My kids are quick to pull it out of the freezer and build a popsicle treat in five minutes. There are many ways to experiment with this fun gadget. This time of year we enjoy these Valentine’s Day Zoku Recipes. One of our favourite gifts this year was our Zoku popsicle maker. Honestly we have used this baby almost daily since it was given as a gift to my oldest daughter. Not sure what a Zoku is? A Zoku is a funky cross between a toy and a…

I swear to you my daughter left the house looking like this (at least to me) then she went out with a friend and she came back looking like this. How did this happen? Her friend Aimee outgrew a coat and gave it to my daughter. She also did her nails and straightened her hair then styled it. Colour me dumbfounded.

Needle anxiety, or needle phobia, is very real for many kids and adults. One of my girls has anxiety, which is extremely pronounced around needles. When she was a baby she never balked at getting her vaccines. She was happy go lucky and hardly noticed at all. Then in the blink of an eye at around school age she started to be a worrier. She worried about everything. I worried that she was worrying too much. Anyways you get the idea. We plugged in some supports and she manages most days very well. She has strategies. But the one area…

A good vitamin supplement like Treehouse Vitamins from Webber Naturals can be like nutritional insurance for your child. In this neck of the woods, during one of the nastiest cold and flu seasons we’ve witnessed in recent years, insurance is important. My kids eat well, but we lead a very busy active life and sometimes I worry. My youngest, is especially prone to colds, and flu bugs. And she…

Once kids arrive, Valentine’s Day romance takes on a whole new meaning. Making plans to schedule a babysitter, at least around here, can mean weeks, sometimes months of trying to find compatible schedules. Is it me, or are babysitters busier than they ever used to be? I haven’t been able to get our high school babysitter ever since she started high school. So essentially I have been without one for six months or more. And don’t even get me started on the cost of a night out. So what do you do? How do you keep the romance with kids?…

This morning I had math on my mind. Well, math, health and shopping, actually. What do all three things have in common? Let me tell you. They all have had to pay for IVF. I was talking to five Facebook friends across Canada and I tallied up the price tag of their collective infertility journeys. The tally came close to several hundred thousand dollars. That’s five families. $300,000 to $400,000 paid to build four families. One couple was not successful yet. I can tell you that the infertile couples I interview, and meet and talk to often as community…
