When my kids were younger, we incorporated a lot of brain breaks into the day. Physical activity was and still is a huge priority. But, these days, as we all know, the world is a wildly different place than it was just in 2019, a couple of years ago. Still, I am working on taking spring brain breaks often. Here’s Why Brain Breaks Matter Right Now Our Brains and Bodies are Taxed. Our brains are on all the time these days and they are often overwhelmed and at the tipping point with stress, anxiety and virtual life. Brain breaks are…

A sensory scavenger hunt is perfect for so many kids. Whether they are sensory seekers or avoiders, there’s a little something for any child here. Some of you by now are aware that my kids have a fair number of sensory issues. So sensory stuff here is second nature. And I am sure that you know that we love scavenger hunts. My oldest would literally still do this actually. She is the crafty kind of kid who lives to get outside exploring and then brings what she has found indoors to build something crafty or creative with it. I am…

Shrimp is one of my favourite foods, so I started to wonder recently about the shrimp life cycle too. My brain sometimes works that way. If you spend any time here on Thrifty Mommas Tips at all, then you probably already know that shrimp is my food. Just last month I wrote about a shrimp boat tour that we did in 2019 in Coastal Mississippi. But what do you actually know about shrimp? I mean they taste great and all, but what’s their life cycle like? Shrimp Life Cycle The shrimp life cycle is actually pretty interesting. If you are…

Plan out a lovely meal and maybe get the kids involved, if you have them. After they go to bed, get these cute date night conversation starters out and do something romantic and just a bit different. Looking for Ideas? Here…

Time for a mindfulness challenge! No better time than the present. At least, that’s my current philosophy. So, some of you probably know that mindfulness here is an ongoing battle. Or, should I say has been an ongoing issue. Ironically, or curiously, I think that I have actually achieved more mindfulness during the pandemic than ever before. My Previous Experience One year I made mindfulness my word of the year and it was the worst word of the year experience that I had ever had. That’s right. I have successfully chosen a word of the year for many years but…

“I took a deep breath and listened to the old bray of my heart: I am, I am, I am.” ~ Sylvia Plath Sylvia knew. Post may contain affiliate links as a service to readers. I receive a small commission from purchases made via qualifying links. Words This year, it has taken me exactly a month to find my 2021 word of the year. Why? Well, I wasn’t convinced I’d bother to choose a word of the year. Wasn’t it a ridiculous assumption to make that a year would bend to meet the shape of a word. I mean after…

The first time I ever saw a truly gorgeous bald eagle in real life was in Alabama actually. We were doing a Segway Tour through the Hugh S. Branyon Back Country trail in Gulf Shores, Alabama and we stopped halfway though for a rest and spotted a nest high atop one of the trees and an eagle was in it. Oh I have seen them on TV and even in zoos, where eagles might be rehabilitating from injury. They are always impressive and majestic. But seeing that nest and the scope of it hit me. I’ve seen them in Florida…
