Maple Leaf: Natural Selections: Giveaway
Once in awhile there comes a product I just have to share with my readers, friends and family and I discovered this one a couple of weeks ago at Shes Connected. Maple Leaf Natural Selections are natural slections deli meats from the makers of Maple Leaf products. The first and only deli product approved to make a natural claim in Canada. We sampled some of these yummy all natural cold cuts at the conference in Toronto a couple of weeks ago and last week I purchased some for my family to try. Dianne of @those2girls says they are the only deli meats allowed in her home now. We bought the turkey last week and we’ve all enjoyed them, especially with the Dempster’s Rye bread, we also got to sample at the conference. The turkey is tasty and it is preserved instead naturally with things like potato starch and lemon. All things you can pronounce on this label and that makes me feel good about serving these products to loved ones. Also the packages are completely resealable. (And yes it actually works, doesn’t just claim to close.) Maple Leaf executive chef John Placko, a friendly guy with a lot of appealing qualities will be coming to a commercial near you soon to sell the praises of their natural meats. Placko was a good ambassador for the company and the brand and at the conference he really seemed to be listening to what Moms were saying.

Maple Leaf has worked hard to turn their image around since the terrible listeria outbreak of a couple short years ago. I appreciate that they didn’t just clean up and manage the public relations nightmare that they had on their hands back then, but they put some good, serious discussion and thought into ways they can do things better. So look for their products on shelves near you and expect a lot more natural products soon. I love new natural selections, but don’t just take my word for it, enter the contest and you can try them too. I am giving away a wooden cutting board I got at the conference and a coupon for free Natural Selections meats. Canadians only please.
This time around I will draw for the winner Nov. 5th with help from random.org.

Only one deli meat I’d like to see more natural! Yikes, there are 2 in this house, ’cause Rachel really likes pepperoni (strange since she doesn’t like spicy food) and Rich likes his summer sausage.

I think you need to do a little more research about “Natural Selections”. There is absolutely no difference between what is in the Natural Selections brand and what is in every other deli meat out there. It is still being preserved with nitrite, which does not come from potato starch or lemon juice. The nitrite comes from the cultured celery extract. There is such a connotation out there that natural is better. Well, in this case it may not necessarily be so. Look at the scientific literature surrounding the subject and make an educated comment instead of attempting to educate consumers about a subject using so many inaccuracies!
