Microsoft Canada – Upgrade Your Windows

Microsoft Canada released Windows 10 today, and the roll out is simply awesome. For one thing, they’ve brought back the start menu that Windows users know and love, making the interface far easier for a lot of users than the Windows 8.1 interface. This is a great example of listening to their consumers, in my opinion.

In addition to bringing back everything we loved about Windows 7, Windows 10 will introduce new features like Microsoft Edge, Continuum, and Cortana (available this fall). One other exciting thing to note is that all genuine Windows 7, Window 8.1, and Windows 8.1 Phone users can upgrade to Window 10 for free during the full year after its launch! And Microsoft will continue to support Windows 10 for the device’s lifetime! That means we’re free to jump on the band wagon now, or wait a bit. It also means that we’re protected after that, as well. Thanks Microsoft Canada!

Microsoft Canada – #UpgradeYourWorld

To celebrate the Windows 10 launch and the free upgrade, Microsoft is launching an initiative called #UpgradeYourWorld. This is all about making our world a better place. Microsoft will help 10 global and 100 local non-profit organizations achieve greatness by investing more than $10 million in cash and technology to help catapult these deserving organizations into high gear.

Using hashtag #UpgradeYourWorld, you can tag Windows Canada (@WindowsCanada) and tell them about the people or organizations in your community which are empowering others to do great things. You can also tell Microsoft Canada how you would upgrade your world, as well.

How I Plan to Upgrade My World

My kids both have Microsoft Windows software on the computers I bought them last Christmas. So we will get in on the free upgrade to Windows 10 first of all. That’s one way we will upgrade our lives. But in a more general way, how do we upgrade our world and make that a life philosophy?

If you are one of my return readers, then you already know that I spend a lot of time advocating for causes that are near and dear to my heart. To me, upgrading my world means leaving it a better place and using my voice to speak up for others. I can upgrade my home, and build nice surroundings for my family, but none of that matters if we don’t leave the world a better place for the future.

I help run a post adoption support group in my city. As an adoptive parent and a person concerned about child welfare issues and special needs children, I often write about that here. I also often speak out, attending pre-budget sessions and relevant political meetings where it’s important that my voice be heard. Throughout the year, every year, I try to be a sounding board for other parents struggling to help their kids. Kids who arrive in their homes through adoption and the child welfare system often carry a good deal of baggage. Some have lifelong special needs as a result of poor pre and post-natal circumstances. I support two patient groups of people managing infertility. I enjoy helping to be their voice on line as they fight for better awareness and funding for infertility treatment. Those are two or three examples of ways I have been helping to upgrade the world for years now.

This past year, I travelled with World Vision Canada around several of their ADPs in Colombia. After that amazing experience I told several of the stories and my family made the decision to sponsor a child in a community called Cali, which was just one of the spaces I visited with the charity. Doing that, and supporting World Vision Canada longterm now is a way that I upgrade my world.

How will you upgrade your world?
