Oh I know there are times when it feels like winter is a long way away. But in this area of Canada you never really know. Once Halloween hits, the weather can turn fast. Oh and there’s no time like the present to start planning your winter getaway. Get the location and the trip you want now. Plus some destinations require you to set aside the ski passes very early, even in June or July of the summer season.
For years we were masters of the long winter road trip and sometimes that was a flight and other times that was a long winter road trip. So, we had that road trip down to a T as they say. We would leave early, sometimes as early as 4 am to beat traffic and hit the border well before it got busy. That way we avoided lineups and even caught the sunrise from the driver or passenger seat. My husband and I would trade off on the drive. I mean from London, Ontario the drive is pretty straight after you hit the border if you are heading to Lake Placid or Vermont ski areas.
We packed lots of snacks of course. Sometimes we let the kids sleep almost the entire way and that worked brilliantly. And of course we packed lots of hands on quiet activities for in the van if they were wide awake. This winter travel activity printable is the perfect thing to keep them busy while you drive.
So, what does all that have to do with anything at all? Well, I like to plan and frankly we took so many winter road trips immediately after we all learned to ski as a family at Tremblant. Here’s that post about how we learned to ski in two days way back in 2015.

Winter Travel Pitfalls
Always check the weather reports before you go anywhere and be prepared with any safety tools you need in the vehicle. Make sure the car has been serviced always. We often get an oil change done before and we have learned our lesson from experience – we never go anywhere in the winter without the proper winter tires. (These were great ones. We had to sell these after my husband’s car died and they no longer fit.)
Vermont and New York ski areas in the winter don’t play. You need the good tires on before you go anywhere.

These are the supplies I like to have on hand before printing these printables out. This is my absolute favourite printer in the world. The Epson Eco friendly printer uses less ink and prints reliably. It is the one I use in my home office and it is the Bomb.
