An easy Halloween word scramble is a fun little gift this time of year. Halloween is one of my favourite times of the year. Recently I received a great box of Hallmark Halloween toys and gifts and it’s put me in the mood early this year. So I thought I would share the Halloween spirit a bit with you all. In fact, Halloween is not just for kids you know. On my street typically many homes go all out with Halloween decorating and setting up haunted houses too. This Halloween word scramble is for you to share with your kids as…

There’s one short day left here before we are back to school. That saddens me a bit. I like the summer months and the great weather that comes with July and August. I guess it will be good to have some order established again. But really day camps did that here and, for the most part, day camps kept the kids really engaged and interested. Anyways, whether you love or loathe back to school time, don’t forget to maintain an upbeat and calm attitude for the kids. That helps a lot. When it comes to transitions, some kids need a…

Back to school means back to the bus stop for a lot of people. Are your kids bused or do they walk? We’ve had great luck with school bus drivers so far at this new school. So that’s one thing I don’t mind, or fret over. Our driver was such a lovely man this past year that he called our house a couple of times to make sure my kids had arrived home safely. He was a real keeper. I can only hope we get the same great luck here this coming school year. I’ve been sharing some simple printables for…

Now I know some of us are torn about back to school and whether it’s a good thing or not. I mean on the one hand summer is ending and the weather is about to take a dive into single digits in the future again. That makes this Mom want to cry. But, on the other hand, the kids will get to see their friends again and that should make them happy. At least I hope that makes them happy. Then there’s the return to a typical routine – Fall brings a different rhythm to life – that’s for sure.…

It’s almost back to school time so start getting ready. Maybe you already are getting ready. There are a few small things I used to do to help get my little ones ready for back to school season. There’s back to school clothes shopping of course and then there’s back to school preparation such as driving by school to help my littles remember where they are going. They used to need a lot of help transitioning to school. My one daughter had pretty severe separation anxiety and it took her years to get accustomed to the back to school routine.…

This Canada Day Maze is just simple fun for a summer day. Canada Day is one of my favourite summer events to celebrate. It falls right before my daughter’s birthday and it heralds summer too. So bring on the pool parties and the lazy long fun summer days for everybody. This year I don’t really plan to do much out of the ordinary. I will be working mostly, but I will also take the time to dive into the pool and enjoy the beautiful month of July. I love July. It’s my favourite month of all and also the month…

It’s almost Canada Day again my friends! Which means it’s time for a Canada Day word search and maybe a few other Canada Day word puzzles and games here. Canada Day makes me happy because it is close to my daughter’s birthday and also it’s clear summer is in full swing by July 1st. If it’s not ski season then bring on the summer days and pool parties. Summer in Canada is short so seize the moment. This summer I know you will need some easy and fun activities to keep the kids occupied. I have a huge list of…

Father’s Day is approaching fast! Just in case you weren’t already aware of that. I know. I know. It sometimes gets so busy this time of year that it’s easy to lose track of some things. When you think of Dad what sort of words come to mind? I think of joking and pranks and barbecues and sports and travel and patience and love. There are a lot of different things good dads give their children. But most important of all these things I think is love and respect and security. A good Dad makes his kids feel safe and happy and loved. My children have a good Dad and on Father’s Day that’s worth celebrating. What are you doing to celebrate Father’s Day? I actually am not too sure here yet. I often do a…

Do your kids think pizza is a food group? Mine seem to believe that. My youngest could exist on pizza and peanut butter, but not together. I don’t mind pizza, for several reasons. It’s a food everyone loves. It is relatively healthy and you can change it up to be just about anything you want. Cauliflower crust? Sure, why not? Chicken and pesto? Yes, please. Plain old pepperoni? Okay. Four Simple Lessons Prompted by Pizza Dinner: My favourite thing about pizza is that you can easily make it together with your kids and it’s enjoyable to eat. My daughter’s favourite…
