Toshiba Shes Connected Holiday Heroes and HD 3D TV: Smarter TVS
Toshiba is for me one of those brands that consistently delivers great quality at good prices. So when I was asked if I wanted to take part in the Shes Connected Holiday Heroes, Toshiba Brand Ambassador program, well that was a no brainer for me. My very first laptop and the computer that is most reliable in this house is my Toshiba. So this is a brand I believe in and buy for our family. I don’t sing the praises of every product or brand that crosses my desk. My job as a brand ambassador for Toshiba was to pick one of their products currently in stores right now and…

A School Wish for Kids With Special Needs This Christmas
I would be flat out lying if I said I was ready for Christmas. Our year has been a big challenge personally with my mother’s illness and recently school has been a big stress here lately. Someone is almost always in crisis and that has been ongoing since late July. All of this has made it hard to get in the mood to celebrate. My youngest daughter has special needs and for easily one month now has been really agitated at school, not wanting to go and struggling while there. The phone rings almost daily. The thing about special needs and disability, and FASD, fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, in particular,…

My One of a Kind Wreath
This is my 2011 wreath, er um my kid. Well, you can see that it is clearly a wreath, right? A tiny bit unconventional perhaps. Just like my child. She has special needs and she does a regular therapeutic riding program, SARI, where they gave each child one of these craft sets to build. This is how ours came home. My brilliant husband, hung it immediately. He knew not to adjust any of it. We actually still had our Easter egg wreath up because I am lazy. No wait, because I have a child, two children with varying degrees of special needs and things like home decorating get lost around…

John Labatt Centre Shows and Great Christmas Gifts
In January and February there are a whole slew of fabulous shows coming to town for families. So check here regularly to find out which ones are on next. Also sometimes organizers slip me special codes or discounts. There could even be a freebie or two in coming days. January 14 and 15th Monster Jam will once again take over the JLC with chrome crushing monster trucks stealing the show. Bring your ear protectors. That show is loud! And dramatic too. Right before that on January 8th there is Disney Live Three Classic Fairytales with all of the most beloved Disney Princesses. So what are you waiting for – oh…

I love gift cards. Huge fan here. This time of the year they are my go to present for the hard to buy for folks. You know – the teacher, the babysitter, the educational assistant helper at school, even then neighbour if they have been a good neighbour to me throughout the year. Empire Movie Theatre cards are blockbuster hits. Who doesn’t like the gift of entertainment? And there are so many fabulous movies coming out this Christmas. Utales Children’s EBooks App Review
Click on link below for video and more information about Utales http://player.vimeo.com/video/29233431?title=0&byline=0&portrait=0 UTales is my new favourite multi-purpose, educational site for Moms, Dads and growing readers. There are many fantastic resources here on UTales, described as a world of picture books for kids. Above, you can see just a few of the amazing digital picture books for children, running all the way upto age nine. The greatest concentration of books here is the preschool category. But there are many sweet, colourful and original tales. My youngest daughter, myself and even my oldest at 10, have been loving this app for the past month. My oldest uses the tales to read…

Holiday Festival On Ice
Blame it on the rain, but I have truly had trouble getting in the Christmas mode this year. Shopping. Meh. Christmas tree. Meh. Lights. Meh. Too overwhelmed by life this year to care. At least until Sunday. This week I won two passes to see Holiday Festival on Ice, a skating show that was being held at the Kitchener Auditorium, a spot I haven’t been back to in years, since working in town over a decade ago. Anyways, the show was fabulous, featuring gold medal winners David Pelletier and Jamie Sale, and the incredible and very famous Kurt Browning, who liked my daughter’s sweater and was a really seasoned performer.…

Zero Tolerance For Bullying Not Good Enough
My daughter Payton. Both my kids have at one time or another been bullied. One of my children could also easily be perceived as a bully. She is not, but she has special needs and is frequently mishandled, undersupervised and left to handle situations she cannot because of her disability. My heart breaks when I read of kids who have ended their lives because of bullying. This is tragic every time and I can see too easily how a child could feel that there is nothing good in the world when school is not a safe place. I believe bullying is an adult issue largely that impacts kids and we,…
