Ski trips are a ton of fun. My family takes at least one every year. There’s nothing more fun than hitting the slopes with family. One of the best things about ski trips is that there are so many great areas you can go to have an awesome skiing adventure. And ski trips make brilliant family travel opportunities, especially if you have tweens or teens. If you’re looking for an amazing ski destination, here are 5 areas that are perfect for families who love to hit the powder.

5 Places that Make Great Ski Trips
These 5 provinces and states have great powder, big slopes, and some excellent ski resorts. Any of these areas make excellent ski trip destinations for your next slope side getaway. We have skied 2 of the five listed here and have plans to ski more as soon as flights and time work out.
Vermont
Vermont is one of the most well-known areas for people to take ski trips. That’s because it has some of the best powder and ski resorts available. Vermont’s ski resorts are located on peaks all across the Green Mountains, which offer some of the best peaks for skiing and snowboarding, as well as other lower elevations that make for great cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. We loved visiting Smugglers’ Notch in 2016 and look forward to returning to Vermont in 2017.
Quebec
Quebec is home to some of the most popular ski resorts in Canada. Located between the Laurentian and Appalachian Mountains, the slopes of these areas make for ski trips that are a bit more low key than other areas. That’s because almost all the ski resorts in the area are below treeline, making them safer for less experienced skiers or skiers who don’t like risk. These slopes are generally more populated, making ski trips here a similar experience to being in the alps and far more of a social endeavour. Quebec is where we learned to ski during a memorable family media trip to Mont Tremblant in 2015!
British Columbia
British Columbia is the Canadian Mecca for ski enthusiasts. Home to some of the best skiing in the world, British Columbia boasts endless, deep powder and a laid back atmosphere that attracts skiers from all over the world. From the famous Whistler Blackcomb resort to lesser known resorts like Apex Mountain Resort, British Columbia is home to dozens of ski resorts. They all have the classic powder that makes for amazing ski trips. Plus, for Americans these trips can be extremely affordable. The exchange on the US dollar to Canadian currency is till in your favour.
Utah
Home to some of the best slopes in North America, Utah is always a great choice for incredible ski trips. When winter hits, Utah’s mountains become a winter wonderland for skiers, snowboarders, and ice skaters. My neighbours love skiing in Utah. Of course, their slopes offer all the white powder you’ve come to expect from any good ski resort, but they also have so much more. Since hosting the Olympics in 2002, Utah has used its facilities to offer bobsled rides as well as the opportunity for families to skate laps at the Olympic Oval, home to “The Fastest Ice on Earth”. I am so ready to visit UTAH but it might have to wait until next season.
Colorado
When we hear the words “ski trips”, we’re almost guaranteed to think Colorado. It’s synonymous with great skiing. Home to some of the most famous resorts, peaks, and powder in the world, Colorado boasts a variety of snow activities for all types of ski trips. Whether you’re into cutting a line on a snowboard, down hill skiing, or cross country skiing, Colorado has what you’re looking for. And if you’re a nature lover, you’ll also be able to trek across Colorado’s forestland, enjoying the snow and wilderness.

My family and I were just talking about a ski trip. We’ve had the most fun skiing in the mountains of North Carolina (near home) and in Maine. My sister lives in CO, so maybe this should be our next ski vacation destination.

I have never been skiing! It wasn’t something that was available around me when I was young, so I never got to try. Then when I got married, I just didn’t want to break a leg lol. These look like such fun ski spots though.

There are so many places that I would love to check out. I love to ski although I have not done in a long time. I think I would just travel to these places because I would love to travel and check out the scariest. I will share this with a friend of mine who is an avid skier also!

I started going on ski trips with my dad and sister almost every year since I was six. I’ve been to Colorado (my favorite), Utah, California, New Mexico, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

My grown kids are going to love this list. Me well I am at the stage where sitting by a warm fire, drinking hot chocolate and cheering all the grandkids learning to ski is my area now.

I’ve never gone skiing. I love snow tubing, but haven’t tried skiing. I have no balance and am afraid I’d break a leg lol. My old neighbor used to go to Utah every year though. I’d live vicariously through him lol! Thanks for sharing!
