    Happy Birthday Scavenger Hunt

    November 26, 2020 /

Here’s an easy way to cope with birthdays this year. Why not give a birthday scavenger hunt a try? Tenth Birthday Celebrations When both of my girls turned ten, we did some amazing fun things to celebrate their birthdays. Together, with my entire family we took my oldest girl to Disney and the Kennedy Space Centre. My youngest got tickets to see Katie Perry in concert with us. But, before we gave her the tickets we did a birthday scavenger hunt. Hidden Clues I hid clues around the house and they led her on a quick tour to find the next clue. One by one she turned them over and…

    Inspiring Imagination with Zing

    November 24, 2019 /

I received Zing toys for consideration here. My opinion is all my own. Inspiring imagination is what play should be all about. When kids play, either indoors with a game or construction set or outdoors with their friends, their imaginations are what make it so much fun. In my opinion, the best gifts are the gifts that work towards inspiring imagination in our kids. Inspiring Imagination Indoors and Out Remember when you were a kid? Every game was so much bigger than what was really happening. Tag was a battle for survival. Hide and seek was a stealth opp. Those were the times when we had the most fun, and…

Fifty New Things From the Year I Turned Fifty

    July 16, 2019 /

Last year was the year I turned fifty. Just saying that is both liberating and a bit scary. I come from a long line of women who didn’t EVER discuss their age. So, neither did I for most of my adult life. There was a time when I was so incredibly ill with Crohn’s Disease, an inflammatory bowel disease that is incurable, that I was very certain I wouldn’t live past 40. And then 40 came and went and 41, 42, 43 and so on and I was still here. Huh. Imagine that. A Bit of History The Internet didn’t exist when I was at my sickest ever with acute…

41 Amazing Things To Do in Norfolk County Now

    September 18, 2018 /

Who knew that Norfolk County was a destination full of potential adventures so close to home? I certainly had no idea when I booked a quick trip to visit Long Point Eco Adventures this summer. In fact, I originally pictured a few fun activities and some relaxing at the beach. What we ended up with was so much more. This summer, right before school went back, I decided to take my girls on a quick trip somewhere in Ontario. We looked at a few options and also checked Glamping Hub for ideas. (my guilty pleasure) Then we landed on Long Point Eco Adventures and decided we’d give glamping a try.…

Secrets to a Successful Philadelphia Mother Daughter Trip

    August 7, 2018 /

Our Mother Daughter trip to Philadelphia was sponsored by Visit Philly. Accommodations, flights, meals and attractions were covered. My opinion is truthful and all my own.  Recently, we returned from a wonderful Philadelphia Mother Daughter Trip. My youngest daughter Ainsley and I went together. It was our first time seeing the city and we loved it. Philadelphia is a city full of stories and this is one is ours. Consider it a guide to how to do a successful Mother Daughter Philadelphia Trip, especially relevant if your daughter is a teen. My younger daughter has missed out on a few trips because of her active sports and theatre schedule. And to…

St Augustine – History, Adventure, Food and Fun

    November 7, 2017 /

St Augustine is a city of history, adventure, stunning Spanish colonial architecture, great food, and fun too. The nation’s oldest city is spectacular and educational. Brimming with history and no end of things to see and do both in the city and the surrounding area, St Augustine offers travelers the best of city life, as well as easy access to nature, and a rich history that rivals any city in the country. In fact, this city is the oldest continuously occupied European established settlement within the United States, hence it’s incredibly rich history and many historical sites. We took a trip to St Augustine recently, and we were blown away…

Dolphin Kisses – Last June in Mexico #WordlessWednesday #travel

    April 22, 2015 /

Last year we were lucky to attend a Puerto Vallarta, Mexico media trip together. Our family has travelled a few times since and this dolphin excursion that Payton and I went on in Puerto Vallarta remains one of the highlights of the last 5 years for my older daughter. I have seen numerous swim with dolphin excursions up close in the last year as we travelled. This one was the best, most humane, cleanest and best run dolphin excursions that I have ever seen. You can read my full travel story about Dolphin Discovery here in the travel section of Thrifty Momma’s Tips on line magazine. I highly recommend that…

Snorkelling in Yelapa Mexico with Mosquito Jellyfish

    July 4, 2014 /

When the mosquito jellyfish bit me I stopped short a moment, treading water, breathing and wondering what just happened. Am I hurt? Did I imagine that? Should I bail? I am far from an adventuresome swimmer. In fact, truth be told, I almost drowned once in a wave pool. Michael Phelps, I am not. But my kids swim beautifully and are well on their way to summers filled with pool parties and maybe even jobs as lifeguards. Today I am snorkelling in Yelapa, Mexico with my daughter and some travel bloggers. Living the life, admiring the view until this happens…. In a cove in Banderas Bay, I look for my…

Dolphin Discovery Aquaventuras WaterPark – Family Adventure in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico #pvpresstrip

    June 23, 2014 /

Dolphin Discovery Aquaventuras Waterpark Puerto Vallarta tops my list of favourite things to do with family in Puerto Vallarta. Recently I travelled through Puerto Vallarta with my daughter. We were on a press trip that delivered tonnes of fun and adventure for everyone. Dolphin Discovery was one of our favourite excursions. This is why we loved this family waterpark. Where can you pet a sea lion, be propelled through a pool like a Superhero with dolphins beneath your feet and race watersides all day? I am talking about Dolphin Discovery and Aquaventuras Waterpark in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico of course. Lucky for us, we spent a large portion of one day here…
