Couples Resort – A Romantic Anniversary Retreat

    August 22, 2017 /

Couples Resort is romantic getaway for any couple that needs to relax and reconnect, without the kids in tow. Last week Jim and I dropped our youngest daughter off at camp in Muskoka near Huntsville. I had heard of Couples Resort and we hadn’t yet had time to celebrate our 25th anniversary, so I planned to surprise my husband with two nights away. We headed up past Algonquin Park after dropping Ainsley at camp and Payton at her aunt’s house. The drive from Huntsville was about 90 minutes. I’ve never been through Algonquin Park and loved seeing the Moose Crossing and deer crossing signs. On the way back we popped…

Wedding Cruises – Three Cruise Lines for the Seafaring Bride and Groom

    February 14, 2017 /

Wedding cruises have become extremely popular over the past few years. Over the past few years, I have seen weddings on every cruise my family and I have been on. On the most recent Royal Caribbean cruise we took, I saw easily a dozen weddings, so I decided to do a little research. After all what could be more fun than a cruise wedding? Wedding Cruises – Romance on the High Seas People are getting out and saying their “I do’s” on the open sea more and more. I get it. It’s extremely romantic and quite unique. It’s also practical. I mean, you’ve got your wedding and your honeymoon all in…

Valentine’s Day Bouquets – The Classic “I Love You”

    February 3, 2017 /

Valentine’s Day bouquets are the classic “I love you” gift. They’re a wonderful way to show someone how much you care. The wonderful scents. The beautiful blooms. The colours. Flowers, especially Valentine’s Day bouquets, are the most romantic thing in the world to me. They’re so classic, and they have this way of making me feel appreciated, loved and cheerful. Sigh… I love them. The Best Valentine’s Day Bouquets If you’re going to give a bouquet as a Valentine’s Day gift – and you should – make sure you get the best of the best. I love Teleflora bouquets. Their blooms are always beautiful and long lasting. That’s the winning…

When it Comes to Fertility – Be a Badger #MyInnerPower

    December 15, 2016 /

Recently someone asked me what my inner power might be…it took a few minutes for me to answer that one. I am hopeful, and I try to be positive, but is that my inner power? What exactly IS an inner power or super power? Is it strength? Is it courage? Yes, but not quite right. Is it faith? Resilience? I think it is a bit of all of that. But, my inner power is also something more than strength, courage, hope, positivity, resilience and faith. Back when I was working in a daily newsroom I had an editor who called me The Badger, because I was stubborn and determined and I…

Vow Renewal – A Few Memorable Destinations #travel

    September 27, 2016 /

Vow renewal is a beautiful and romantic thing. It’s a way for couples to reaffirm their commitment to one another in a way that’s more than just the everyday “I love you” and the occasional flower bouquet. I’ve been thinking about this lately and contemplating whether this is something we should do for our 25th wedding anniversary. I like the idea of building a memorable romantic trip together as a couple. Renewing our vows could add a touch of magic to our marriage. It might remind us how we felt that day when we first slipped those rings on our fingers in front of friends and family so many years ago. Unforgettable…

Surviving Valentine’s Day: Pauline Parril’s Advice for Married Women

    February 11, 2015 /

This is a sponsored guest post on the launch of The Perils of Pauline.  Surviving Valentine’s Day: Pauline Parril’s Advice for Married Women by Pauline Daley-Parril Valentine’s Day hashtags are proliferating on Twitter. That means one thing: #valentinesdayiscoming. For single women, the 14th of February is tough enough when it’s #nodate and #aloneagain. But for married women, Valentine’s Day is a #minefield #forgetaboutit #norosesforyousister #fml. For women in general, Valentine’s Day is like trying on a new bikini: single girls hope to find something nice that handles the girls effectively but all too often end up with lingering regrets and maybe a yeast infection from the previous person who tried the…

Marriage and Financial Communications: Guest Post by Matt Bell

    April 11, 2011 /

Who’s On Your Board of Directors? A Guest Post by Matt Bell “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.” – Proverbs 15:22 My friend, Brad, calls it their annual “Dixie Fraley talk.” Once a year, he and his wife, Nancy, meet with their personal board of directors, which includes their CPA, attorney, and financial planner. Brad and Nancy reveal their balance sheet, budget, giving plans for the year, along with plans to build their marriage and encourage their adult children. Then they open it up for comments and suggestions. Brad got the idea after hearing a talk given by Dixie Fraley, widow of Robert Fraley, a…
