Five Easy Ways to Encourage a Reluctant Reader to Read

    February 26, 2020 / No Comments

I had a super reluctant reader. It was kind of devastating to watch her struggle with learning to read because reading and writing are my favourite things and it’s also how I make a living. But, my one girl did not do well. Her processing speed is slower due to a few things such as FASD (fetal alcohol spectrum disorder) and ADHD symptoms of hyperactivity and so she struggled decoding language and making it work. She has several diagnoses and school can be harder for her than it is for some other kids. So instead of literally and figuratively beating our heads against the wall trying to teach her, we…

Christina Knows Best – Candide 3 in 1 Pillow Review #Baby

    November 5, 2015 /

Christina now has a baby girl! That’s great news, right? So life for this new Mom has been a bit busier to say the least. Anyways, a few months ago she was sent the Candide 3 in 1 pillow for review and baby was not yet out of her “baby house” as her Mom called it then, so she used the Candide first as a pregnancy body pillow. Now that baby is here and making her personality and presence known to the world well life, and the Candide, have taken on a different shape. See what I mean when you watch this video. We were sent this for consideration here…

    This is One Quirky Multi-Purpose Steamer – Hoover FloorMate® SteamScrub™ 2-IN-1 #TMMGG2015

    October 16, 2015 /

When this arrived I had a visitor pop by the house. Actually I had a couple of visitors pop by and they spied the box for this Hoover FloorMate® SteamScrub™ 2-IN-1 and began to tell me more about it than I knew. “Is this the one that steams dirt off the stove too?” “And scrubs the shower?” “And the floors?’ Now I have to admit I hadn’t even heard of Hoover FloorMate® SteamScrub™ 2-IN-1 before it arrived but apparently in some circles it already had some buzz happening. So, I pulled it out of the box and assembled it easily this week wondering if all that could be true. How on…

Vex Robotics Hexcalator Construction Set Review: Perfect Gifts for the Science Girl or Boy on Your List #TMMGG2015

    October 12, 2015 /

I am thrilled to share this first entry in my 2015 Thrifty Momma’s Tips Holiday Gift Guide. The Vex Robotics Hexcalator Construction Kit is the perfect toy for the science guy or gal on your list this year. But be warned this toy/ science and robotics kit is challenging, in a good way, so stick to the recommendations around age limits so your little one is not frustrated. This science, technology, engineering and math construction set will eventually become a series of ramps, pullies, planes, inclines and rotating wheels that lift and move the eight balls that come with the set. It is essentially a small robotic escalator that also…

Introducing My New Contributor – Baby Product Vlogger Christina

    June 10, 2015 /

I am super excited to share this news with you. As some readers know my girls are in the double digits now. One is a tween and one is a teenager and they keep me every bit as busy as they did when they were small. It’s just a different kind of busy. For a time I had a baby blogger here, but even her babies have grown up a lot. I know this audience still wants to read about baby news and baby products too. I can tell that when I run analytics here sometimes. So how does that work? I can’t authentically write or review baby products when…

My #LGG3Moms LG G3 Smartphone Review and Giveaway

    November 14, 2014 /

Meet my new crush. This is my favourite gadget of the year – the LG G3 Smartphone has changed the way I work. I have been an iPhone user for as long as I have been a blogger. But then I got the chance to test-drive the LG G3 Smartphone. I never thought I would love an LG G3 Android so much. The thing about my iPhone that I loved the most was its reliability. It never dropped calls and it connected seamlessly wherever I travelled. Colombia with World Vision Canada, no problem! Mexico? No problem. So then the LG G3 smartphone arrived and I have to tell you that…

Addalock Review – Safe on the Go #Travel Lock

    April 30, 2012 /

Addalock Review   Imagine a lock on the go. Addalock is a simple effective little invention you can toss in your suitcase and carry with you anywhere. When I heard about the device I was interested because safety is a huge priority here and because I have a child with special needs who wanders. Now, I am pretty sure that Addalock wasn’t intended necessarily as a special needs tool, but I can see useful applications here. My daughter from a very young age could get out any door and had very little impulse control, so we were hypervigilant, and we still are. In our house we have extra security on…
