Part 3: Egg Freezing – Heather and Hunter
Meet Heather and Hunter Pelz. Mom and Baby couldn’t be happier or healthier. He’s a bit of a miracle and at 11 months, like many babies he is growing fast, exploring and socializing slowly when safely in presence of his Mom or Dad. So what’s so unusual about this story? Well, Hunter was born when Mom was 44 which speaks to a trend that is not entirely uncommon in Canada. Moms across Canada, are often older when they begin trying to conceive. It’s a demographic reality that is also partly related to social expectations and the fact that a huge percentage of women have careers and post secondary education. That…

Operation Banish High Blood Pressure
It’s time for fresh starts. December 1st. What could be a better time? I’m not waiting for New Year’s resolutions this year because I need to tackle this new health challenge head on. I have high blood pressure and it’s not going away. It started in September and I assumed it was because I was hyper about taking a trip with World Vision Canada and I assumed that the high reading was a one off. But in October it was high again and then this past weekend when we went for flu shots it was astronomical. So it’s time to kick it to the curb. First here’s a bit about…

Voloom Hair Volumizing Iron #TMMGG2014
This is a house favourite for hair. I received a Voloom Hair Volumizing Iron this past month for consideration. I tested it out this past week with my daughters and I love it. Please note my kids are 10 and 13. I supervise their use of hair gadgets, especially those that could catch fire or damage something if not used with caution. I think the Voloom makes a brilliant Christmas gift for the teenage girl on your list, or for any women you have to buy presents for this year. The Voloom hair volumizing iron is something that worked on my one daughter’s super thick long hair. That alone says something because…

Arianna Huffington Interview #WordlessWednesday
Last summer I attended Blogher 10 in San Jose. One of the highlights for me was Guy Kawasaki – social media guru and smarty pants – interviewing Arianna Huffington, who was a total breath of fresh air. She responded to his questions with razor sharp comebacks that were all sort of directed exactly where she wanted them to go. It was the most hysterical thing. She gave great responses and had everyone laughing. She was also clearly used to commanding attention in any room and she was promoting her new book Thrive. The crux of that seemed to be get more sleep and stop multi-tasking. This is my Wordless Wednesday.…

The Strength of Women in Morales Duque, Colombia #TMMWVC #worldvisiongifts
The women of Morales Duque, in the south of Colombia, have gathered us inside a community centre. I am here to listen to their stories, as a representative of World Vision Canada visiting this country of contrasts. They hand us treats, and a traditional Colombian corn drink and a certificate signed by each member, thanking World Vision Canada. I thought I knew what strong resourceful women looked like. I know a lot about strong women in the context of Canada and the United States. I have never had to look far for brilliant female role models. My Mother, my grandmother, my daughters, my friends. I am surrounded, and I was…

Trind Nail Products for Damaged Nails #trindrehab #giveaway
I had beautiful nails for months. It’s true. They were gorgeous. And I got a lot of comments back when I was using gel polish, getting my nails done professionally. My professional image is part of my business. When I look good, I present a more professional image to the world as a strategist and entrepreneur. I feel more confident and I land more contracts. Confidence is important. I had lovely, coloured, polished, shiny nails for maybe even the greater part of a year and I enjoyed having them done. So, what’s the problem, you ask? Well, I mean, have you tried shellac? If you have, then you know…

Fertility Facts – Canadian Infertility Awareness Week
It’s almost time for Canadian Infertility Awareness Week. Why does that matter? Well, in Canada 1 in 6 people of reproductive age struggles with infertility. In the US the figure is 1 in 8. Canadian Infertility Awareness Week is a chance to remind people again why we advocate. It’s a chance to tell your stories too. The World Health Organization (WHO) calls infertility a public health crisis and it’s time to recognize that we need awareness and advocacy to help address this issue. All about Canadian Infertility Awareness Week This coming week May 24 to 31st is 2014 Canadian Infertility Awareness Week. As you know, I often write about adoption and…
