Welcome to your Self-Care Day Challenge. Oh I know you are over there like self-care day? Yeah right. Who has time for that? Well, if not now then when? When health fails and you get sick? No thanks. Consistent attention to you is vital for good health, just as listening to your body matters for wellness and health.
What does self-care look like to you? This year more than ever before I am seeing so much attention on wellness and self-care. Travel for wellness has reached an entirely new level. In Quebec City in May I visited a Monastery and heard about the history of health and wellness in that city. It was fascinating and this is a subject matter I am exploring this year here.
It’s time to take your health into your own hands and make self-care a priority if it isn’t already.
So I want you to think about your own self-care and what you can do now. As our lives get busier, prioritizing self-care becomes increasingly important. Many of us think of self-care as practicing yoga, lifting weights, a day at the spa or even spending quality time with friends. While these are all great ways to relax, there is a lot more to it.
The concept of self-care is about empowering individuals, families and communities to practice healthy habits, prevent disease and cope with illness or disability to achieve optimum health. Taking better care of ourselves by utilizing the products available to us , and the time we have, not only helps Canadians lead healthier lives, it also alleviates strain on our healthcare system. Making a commitment to practice self-care has so many benefits.
That’s why Bayer, a global health products leader, is working to educate consumers on how Better Self-care for a Better Life can make a difference in quality of life, while improving healthcare sustainability.
For me, self-care changes, but it often looks like me taking time to exercise. Remember back to my word of the year and my goal to move more. That’s an ongoing commitment I make to myself which benefits my family too. When I am well and healthy I am better able to do all the things necessary to run my business and support my family.
On the weekends self-care is me relaxing by my pool outside sometimes by myself and sometimes with my family. Play for me is also self-care. When we take the time to jump into the pool and swim together and leave work aside we all feel better, mentally, emotionally and physically.
This past weekend we went to Stratford Festival Theatre together. We had tickets to see The Music Man. After an amazing show we strolled through the gorgeous park on the water there and looked for swans then shared ice cream. It was a great day and very uplifting for all of us. That to me is exactly the goal of self-care activity.
No matter where I am or what I am doing though I rely on a few different brands to support my level of activity and general health and wellness. This year we have all been relying on CLARITIN to help with allergies, so we aren’t stuck indoors. ALEVE is for aches and pains and of course I carry Aspirin always in my purse in event someone had a heart issue. DR. SCHOLL’S inserts are the ones we have in many of our shoes. Can’t even tell you how awesome those are. They feel like a massage for my feet when I walk somewhere.
In support of International Self-Care Day on July 24th, I challenge you to share your self-care practices with me. To help get you started, Bayer has created a self-care calendar with one tip for each day of the month.
I will also be giving away ten $15 Amazon gift cards so you can purchase your favourite self-care products! In celebration of Self-Care Day, Bayer is running a Buy 3 and save $10 promotion through Amazon.ca on most of their brands at https://www.amazon.ca/adlp/bayercanada.
To enter, all you have to do is share how you practice self-care, tag @inkscrblr and use #SelfCareDay for your chance to win! Tweet me to win.
Self-Care Day should be every day. It doesn’t have to be a huge gesture like a stay at a monastery or a yoga retreat. Sometimes it can be as simple as a swim in the pool with family after work. Or a walk along the river after seeing a play together.
So, how do you practice self-care? Don’t forget to leave me a comment too.

With 3 young kids, it’s often hard to find time for me. Going to the gym is one way I practice self-care.
