When the Harlem GlobeTrotters come to town you know it. Their shows are always entertaining and sheer fun, with a strong hit of audience interaction. As a Mom I love that my kids enjoy watching the talented basketball team perform trick shots and whoop it up playfully for the crowd. I also enjoy seeing that they give back. My family at the Meet and Greet session before the Harlem GlobeTrotters show at Budweiser Gardens in London, Ontario When the Harlem GlobeTrotters come to town they make the rounds, usually visiting hospitals, doing radio call in shows and interviews and…

Today I am feeling ranty about Blogger Outreach that just didn’t hit the mark. And I am a little bit stabby. But yesterday was worse. Let’s start with the why. Yesterday, I landed two amazing absurd, totally missed the mark, offers to blog about dental products. So far so good. Teeth are important and that kind of blogger outreach program could be done well potentially. These pitches came from two different boutique PR agencies. Well, clean teeth and healthy living are subjects I love to write about actually and I am heading to the dentist this evening because I have a…

I am an on line shopper. I don’t have time to run around from store to store comparison shopping. I need my shopping experience to be as efficient as possible. We moved this winter to a bigger home. We jettisoned a lot of old furniture and clothing and we need replacement items for our growing family. I hit several furniture stores in London, Ontario shopping for my daughter’s new dresser and night table to match her bed purchased ten years ago. No white or cedar or maple, or pine. I needed off white. Finally I found…

There is something about Spring time and Easter that brings to mind fresh starts. The windows have finally been thrown open here after a long winter and we are enjoying being able to take walks, riding the bikes, and being able to explore our new yard. This year we will be starting new Easter traditions in our new home. There’s something exciting about that also. One tradition I look forward to every year is the Easter Egg Hunt. It’s a hold over from my own childhood and it brings out the child in everyone. Treats and Toys that are Safe…

Ontario’s infertility community reacted with many emotions this week to news that IVF will soon be funded. That’s long awaited for many who took two or three jobs and sometimes used credit cards and second mortgages to be able to pay for health care treatment needed to get the health care treatment prescribed. Last Thursday, Ontario’s Minister of Health and Longterm Care Deb Matthews announced that public funding would be made available for in vitro fertilization. IVF funding is part of the draft budget officially. The funding will take place starting in 2015. An advisory committee or board will be…

How we tackle tough topics in my family is something I often talk about here. Period talk is no different. It’s just part of being a parent. Periods are as natural as showering, eating and sleeping here. So why shy away from period talk? Starting and continuing the period conversation is an important part of parenting and a vital part of development for young girls too. This post is part of the YummyMummyClub.ca and Always Tampax sponsored program. I received compensation as a thank you for my participation. This post reflects my personal opinion about the information provided by…

Bye Bye Winter. It’s Hurricane season. Hurricane Ainsley season that is. Spring fever has hit hard here – FINALLY. I am not complaining. It was a long snowy, cold winter and we are still not entirely free of the season. There is still frost on the rooftops here most mornings and it’s April 1st! But the first hint of spring in our area of Ontario, Canada and my kids were racing outside knocking on doors in our new neighbourhood trying to make new friends. New Nerf toys like Nerf Rebelle helped start new friendships. We moved into our new…

It hit me hard in the card aisle. Grief. Such a sneaky emotion. Tricking you and then hiding behind obstacles in the open. Like a thief hiding behind doors and in alleys waiting to pounce out and holler. Friday was my Mom’s birthday. The first birthday we haven’t spent together and also the first birthday since she passed away. It rained a lot here and it was, without doubt, the hardest day I have had since she left us. Way harder than Christmas. Grief Finds You in the Card Aisle One week ago I was standing in the grocery store…

Midnight Castle game is family friendly and pretty enjoyable for all. My 12-year-old has been using her iPad mini obsessively since she got it last summer. This past week my oldest daughter and I both discovered Midnight Castle game and we have been playing together ever since. Head over to the Midnight Castle Facebook page to learn more. Up until now, when daughter wasn’t using iPad for homework or building a Prezi presentation for some assignment, she was glued to games that drive me mad. Most of her current games in rotation on the iPad are wholesome enough but vapid.…

This weekend I am heading to the Mompreneur conference in Toronto. As you all know this is not my first conference. I attend about 6 social media workshops and conferences throughout the year. But this one is different. First of all, it’s a business focus. In particular, a women in business focus. Why is that important? Simply put, I am a business. And I am a woman. I run a social media strategy and marketing business in addition to the health blogging and marketing that I do here at Thrifty Momma’s Tips. Business has grown and I know full well…
