Explaining Why #OHIP4IVF #onpoli Makes Sense
Some of my readers and followers will have noticed I am on a new mission here lately _ one that involves championing the needs of families as usual, but from a slightly different perspective. Lately I am tweeting with the hashtag #Ohip4ivf because I have joined forces with a group called Conceivable Dreams. Conceivable Dreams is an advocacy based grassroots organization that started with the passion of two parents bent on educating public and government about the needs of parents in waiting, parents seeking to become families through the help of a process known as in vitro fertilization. I typically write here about adoption, a lot, because my two girls…

Soda Stream #Giveaway Free Blogger Group Opp
Jenn’s Blah Blah Blog, Simply Shawn & Jenn, and Pink Ninja Media have another fabulous FREE Blogger Opportunity! Don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity! When I was at Blogher 12 in New York this summer, one of the sponsors was Soda Stream. As I walked through the exhibit hall I couldn’t help, but stop and visit their booth. Soda made at home? How fun and yummy. I sampled the flavours and quite enjoyed them. So when I spied this group blogger giveaway opp – the giveaway part is only open to my US readers _ I had to get in on it. Soda Stream is a great prize. This…

Big Time Rush Concert #WoohooLondon
Several months ago I spied a great Groupon deal for tickets to see Big Time Rush. Now, to my girls, Big Time Rush is kind of like oh I dunno Bay City Rollers were to me. So that was a no brainer. I bought the tickets and put them away for my oldest daughter’s eleventh birthday. That was my very first Groupon purchase and let me tell you it was a learning experience. I had no clue I was supposed to print out the voucher and bring it with me to reimburse for tickets. Be warned: do that first. Anyways, that little slip up cost me an extra trip to…

The Next Big Buzzworthy Kid’s Accessory: Gutzy Gear Review
I am crazy for these little collector items called Gutzy Gear and I will tell you why. Gutzy Gear is a collector system that appeals to kids and tweens, maybe even teenagers. You start with a hat or backpack straps (as seen here) and then you build and collect these velcro patches and customize each strap. There are also collector books and visors you can buy to dress up. My girls received some of the backpack straps from my time at Blogher New York this summer and so I let them dress their backpacks up for the first day of school. Payton adored the peace and yin and yang set…

Bras to Back to School Shopping – All in a Week #sandgen
From bras, to brakes, to back to school shopping. This was one of those marathon weeks in the life of me, when life became achingly exhausting. Deadlines mounted, a magazine article was due and then back and ready for edits that needed to be done yesterday and then of course brakes on my mini-van needed an unexpected service and eight paid jobs were due and so on and so forth. Oh, and somehow in there I am supposed to squeeze in massive dental restorations and back to school shopping – Huh?! Anyways the life of a sandwich generation Mom is never dull. I love my job and my kids, my…

Back to School Backpack Safety: How to Spare Your Child’s Back From Injury
I was sent several of these Backpack Binders for review and was the slightest bit confused when they arrived. Are they a backpack? Or a binder? Well, my energetic one shown here tore open the package and all was revealed. They are binders, of course, but with a difference. These Backpack Binders are extremely light, because the company that makes them believes the lighter the better and that children’s backpacks are already to full, which is leading to a large number of back injuries. So lighten the load in the backpack, by carrying one of these and you are off to a good start. I like the cute skateboarder pictures…

Easy Meal Ideas with VH Sauces
Did I really just make this? Delicious Pad Thai? VH sauces inspired me to get creative this week. True story. I am a cautious diner, usually. I stick to a few dishes I like and I experiment on occasion with sauces, so VH delicious sauces seemed just right for me. I was asked to take part in a Collective Bias shopportunity and I jumped at this one because I know VH makes some great new Asian Inspired sauces. Months ago I read about the garlic hoisin sauce on the Yummy Mummy Club and I was excited to try that one. So, as usual, when I shop, I hunt for good…

How to Keep Your Passion for Journaling: Review and Giveaway
I am journaling again. Oh I know you are thinking- isn’t that what you do every day on your blog thriftymommastips.com? Yes, in some ways. But 10 years ago when my kids first joined our family, and before they joined us, when we waited to adopt, journaling was one thing that kept me sane. As I waited in between the period of time when we applied to adopt and were matched with a child, I wrote in a journal, a bit like this one, about all of the challenges and feelings that brought. A few years ago I gave that journal to my oldest girl. It is, after all, part…

Summer Night Easy Entertaining
Outdoor movie night at my sister-in-law’s house. It was a great way to spend a late August night. A sheet hung off the patio set outside, a projector that is borrowed and a DVD from the library. Use your computer to connect with projector. Add some treats, some family members and enjoy. Also very economical. Wordless Wednesday is a photo meme, hosted by many. Tara’s View of the World is where I usually link up. I hope the rest of the days of summer are good to you and your family.
