The Vex Robotics Hexcalator Construction Kit is the perfect toy for the science guy or gal on your list this year. But be warned this toy/ science and robotics kit is challenging, in a good way, so stick to the recommendations around age limits so your little one is not frustrated. This science, technology, engineering and math construction set will eventually become a series of ramps, pullies, planes, inclines and rotating wheels that lift and move the eight balls that come with the set. It is essentially a small robotic escalator that also…

Celebrate Life and all The Little Moments #BirthdaysCount
When my children were little we spent many hours celebrating being a family. And every year their birthdays were all consuming but wonderful little landmarks of our lives together. For weeks we would plot guest lists and the themes, building the perfect cake. Planning presents that would make their hearts sing. They were one and two and barely old enough to remember, but I remember every last detail. Every present bought, special invitation, and each special guest that shared their day and held them close. Sometimes I bought their cakes, but very often I tried to bake something special just for them. I still remember easily Payton’s first birthday which was…

Jord Wood Watches Are as Unique as He is #jordwatch
June is the busiest month around here. Oh sure there’s school finishing up and the many end of year field trips and events to tend to. Then there’s my husband’s birthday, followed by our anniversary and Father’s Day. Shortly after Father’s Day, there’s Canada Day and then my one daughter’s birthday July 2nd. Finally my birthday follows the week after. WHEW! It’s easy to feel like we are eating cake all spring and summer. Not complaining, because I love cake as much as anyone else BUT there’s such a thing as too much of a good thing. This time of year, because of all the occasions we have going on,…

What Does Ten-Years-Old Look Like?
This past month my youngest girl turned 11 and we celebrated with a Minecraft cake and a sleepover and a family dinner at Lone Star Texas Grill. We all learned to ski together as a family in Tremblant the weekend before her birthday party. In many ways, that was the perfect start to sporty spice’s birthday week. This is the daughter I still joke never met a sport she didn’t like. The one who wandered off at Disney when she was four and nearly gave me a heart attack on the spot. The one who sported my eye shadow the day we went to visit a local martial arts studio…

Ainsley’s Tween Girl Birthday Word Search
It’s my daughter’s eleventh birthday. My youngest daughter. My mini ninja. The girl we used to dub a two foot tornado. Now a four foot tornado. No idea how she can possibly be eleven! Then again, I can’t believe I have a teenager either. Ainsley keeps us on our toes, but in a good way mostly. From the moment she arrived in our home she was almost always on the go. I remember her first ever attempt at rolling as a baby. She rolled clear across the living room floor to grab her sister’s Barbie. That’s just her way. At four she started martial arts. On a day when she’d…

East Park Golf and Waterpark
Thriftymommastips decided to take her family for a holiday weekend adventure at a nearby waterpark in London, known as East Park, 1275 Hamilton Road. While the weather Saturday was lovely and the waterslides excellent the adventure was not inexpensive, so be forewarned. East Park offers many different packages and many different activities but for the holiday weekend a special family of four for $50 deal was advertised in the newspaper. The deal caught my eye and we figured we’d give the waterslides a whirl. Now it should be noted that we had no complaints and spent all day at the park thoroughly enjoying the slides, the children’s water park area…
